Hello,

I am planning to buy MYW passes at the DS before we head down to WDW in January - apparently supplies are low and only kids passes are in stock - does anyone have experience upgrading and paying the difference for a kid to adult pass at guest services? I presume this would be ok but wanted to hear if anyone has actually done this recently.

thanks,

I was in booking our trip at CAA and noticed there that they are now selling the passes. This is new I never saw that when we went last year. Good Luck

The cheapest place to buy tickets is usually a broker.

Check out www.mousesavers.com.

They will provide you with the link. Lots of people on the Disboards have used them.

I've priced out the tickets and I think the Disney store is the cheapest. The problem is they rarely have tickets. I have been calling for about 2 months.

I found the price is better at Disney store rather than mousesavers or undercover tourist, at least in Alberta, $296 for adult 7 day park hopper, with all taxes in, where the undercover tourist/mousesaver the price with the exchange of rate is over $350.00 pp.

If someone has found it cheaper somewhere else, please let me know.

Thanks.

Thanks Everyone, we took a look at the Allears site and read their info on upgrading tickets - seems we can upgrade from a child hopper to adult hopper by paying the difference - we had a $500 USD Visa Debit Card from DVC that was burining a hole in our pocket so we went to DS last night and bought 2 kids 7 day hopper passes for $258.80 CDN each (taxes included - works out to $208.65 USD) and will go to Guest Services on arrival at WDW to upgrade - best part is with the exchange we still have $78 USD left on the debit card to put toward our upgrade :cool1:

I called all the stores in the Toronto area and most only had kids passes or adult passes that were the hoppers plus water parks etc. - more than we needed.

One CM did tell me that they don't expect any new shipments of passes until January and likely a price increase/rightsizing due to the fact that current passes are at par and the CDN dollar has dropped.

I compared the CAA prices for adult 7 day hoppers and those are $290.15 USD taxes in so almost $358.28 CDN - the adult DS 7 day passes are $296.07 CDN so would be $238.43 USD if you could get them - savings of $62.21 CDN (hope my math is right on this - i was getting a bit confused with all the exchange and MYW options). I believe Scarborough Town Centre DS has adult and children 7 day MYW plus hopper, plus waterpark passes in stock if you are looking for those - $349.34/$312.07 CDN each includes taxes. At the Gate at WDW these would cost approx. $433/387 CDN.

Hope this info can help someone else.

That is a fantastic idea! Do you really think there won't be any problems? I have been calling the DS every day for the last 2 months or so and I have not been able to get tickets. They have plenty of children's tickets, I would love to take this approach, but I am so worried it won't work. Do you think they will wonder why we bought kids passes 3 weeks before our trip and all of a sudden we want to upgrade them? I think I might take the chance.
When do you go on your trip? I would love to hear about your experience doing this.

Thanks, and sorry for so many questions!!

we were nervous too momof2kids but after reading the allears site, talking to a disney veteran friend and i recall a thread on the dis before but couldn't find it of people who ordered kids airmiles passes then upgraded, we decided to go for it - we will be there in early january so hope we don't have any problems. as i understand it you can upgrade since they are brand new unused tkts - no need to prove child's age etc. we are lucky that we have a 2 year old so our back-up plan is if this doesn't work we have future passes for him. will let you know how it turns out!!!

You can always buy MYW passes from your TA, even if you don't purchase a trip through them.

Unused child tickets are not upgraded to adult for free.

If you need to add days, etc., do this shortly after some usage, for example enter the park and do the upgrade at Guest Relations just inside.

We don't want to upgrade for free, we want to pay the extra to upgrade. Just in the DS here we buy the tickets in CAD$ at par with the US prices. The idea is that we could buy a childs ticket (since all stores are sold out of adult) and upgrade to an adult ticket once we get there. We assume that we would receive full ticket value (even thought we paid in CAD$) because we bought it at the DS.
Essentially we are only paying the upgraded price in US$ saving us a lot of money on the exchange.

Disney store in Barrie still has 7 day with waterpark option. No park hopper option but htat can be added if you want it. They also have lots of child tickets as well. Just in case anyone is looking out there.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but just wanted to let everyone know we just returned from our Disney trip and used this trick. It worked no questions asked.
We bought 4 child passes and upgraded them all to adult passes. So instead of paying $250 US, we paid $200 CAD and about $50 to upgrade to adult in US funds. Definitely the best way to do it if your Disney Store is sold out of adult passes.

Firstly, I am guessing the stores do not have any as they are changing the prices and will reissue in the new year with new pricing....just guessing.

Secondly, my big fear with upgrading at the parks is the line-ups. Has anyone even thought about the lines of people trying to get their birthday free pass or certificate?? I bet that will be interesting!! Those line-ups are bad at the best of times with tickets that don't scan let alone all of the birthday folks.

I think the idea is great but hoping DS gets some adult ones in before we go in March.

Our local Disney Store only has child tickets in stock. I am thinking about purchasing 4 (2 for our children and 2 for us) and then upgrading them when we arrive. I am only purchasing 5-day base tickets (no park hopper etc).

Did you do this at the park and was it a long wait? Do you only have to do it once, or do you need to repeat the process at each park you visit? Can it be done anywhere else in Orlando (i.e. Disney hotel) rather than waiting in line at Guest Services at the park?

Many thanks in advance for any information you can provide!

Brenda

we head down to WDW on Jan. 4th so very happy to hear the children/adult upgrade worked since we did the same purchase and saved $$$. We have upgraded from 1 day pass to APs, upgraded 5 day to 7 day etc. in the past (adult to adult) and have never had any problem but i was worried about the child/adult upgrade - my advice would be to go to Guest Relations at one of the parks or DTD - lines have never been too bad for us but we usually do the upgrades at an off-time e.g. on arrival day we'd get there in the afternoon/evening - lines in the early hours of park opening are likely longer. You can try the upgrade at the Disney Resorts but our experience is that they have limited ability to do these kinds of transactions and may get confused about the rules since the cast members don't do these as frequently as guest relations...

Will let you know if we have any problems...it's definitely a good deal if you are willing to do a little extra work at the front end - maybe your party can split up and one person goes to Guest Relations (remember the International Gateway entrance at Epcot can do this too and it is rarely very busy) and the rest can meet you at Beaches and Creme at the Beach Club Resort for lunch/ice creme - then you can explore the Boardwalk area if you have the time. I am planning to do our upgrade at DTD on arrival afternoon while the rest of our gang starts lunch at Wolfgang Puck Express.

We had 4 adults in our group. Two wanted 5 day base tickets and two wanted 7 day base tickets. The DS only had 5 day base child tickets in stock, so I bought 4 of those. So in the end we had two 5 day base adult tickets and two 7 day base adult tickets.
I took those to the regular counter, where people buy their tickets when they arrive. We went the week of Christmas. Our first day was MK and we showed up around 11am. We walked right up to the booth and it took about 10 minutes for her to do our upgrade for us. There were tons of counters open and no one waiting in line. That was our experience. We didn't have to go to the actual Guest relations booth, just the ticket counter.
It was definitely worth it for us and it saved us so much money, so we were happy!!
No questions were asked either. She didn't even think twice about upgrading them for us.

Correction: To change an unused child pass into a pass for use by an adult, you may end up paying roughly the difference between your purchase price and the adult pass gate price. This is because the intended user cannot use the pass to enter a park first so as to elevate the "trade in" value to gate price.

Depending on currency exchange rates and the vintage of the passes first purchased, this may or may not result in a net disadvantage compared with buying your passes at the gate.

The pass needs to be treated only once. Unless you wish to add yet more days in which case you can upgrade it again within 14 days of first usage.

Well I know I paid $199 CAD inculding taxes for 1 child 5 day base ticket.
I paid maybe $40 US to upgrade to an adult ticket.
So I paid $40 in US funds as opposed to $240, it was defintely a better deal for me to do it that way. With the CAD$ the way it is, this was the best I could do since the DS had no adult tickets in stock.

This would be a good option for us, as I could send my husband and kids into a store or restaurant while I took care of upgrading our passes.

Thanks in advance!
Brenda
