myspace question

Hi everyone...quick question. Can you tell who looks at your myspace page if they don't leave a message or anything? I've been looking at my sister's page the past few days (see my other thread about my sister being an online predator) and tonight when I went to look at it she had it set to private. I never put any messages on her page but I was logged in to look at her personal pictures. Does she get a record of who looked at her pics???

I think only if they're registered and leaves a message will you be able to track who it is.

I know there used to be a way by downloading a program but I think both parties had to down load it. The pages do have a hit counter and you probably upped her count by more than what is normal for her page so she blocked it.

ETA: No, I dont think she knew it was you. I cant tell who looks at mine.

She could also have a tracker in her myspace that tracks the IP address of the person if they don't have a myspace account. She might have been able to figure out by the location it was you but I wouldn't worry too much about it. Alot of people just block their pages for security purposes.

ETA I just saw you logged in yes if she has a tracker it would have put your myspace name into it. She could click on your profile and see it was you.

no, she wouldn't know it was you. However, if she normally doesn't get heavy traffic and all of a sudden, her page views jumped up because of you, she may think something is up!

She probably thinks it is her ex then. As if he would waste his time. I used an email address she doesn't know when I set up my account...and I didn't use my last name...so hopefully she doesn't know I set up an account.

There are several websites where people can download "myspace trackers" to track the people who visit their profile (whether they are signed up with myspace or not). Some of them cost money and some are free. It is against myspace rules to download these trackers but I know a few people who have them and there's no way to tell who has them and who doesn't when you visit their profile. It makes Myspace stalking of exes and ex-friends hard!

It's no big deal, just tells me where the "hit" came from, but not the IP address. So, it would show up as your hometown, unless your addy comes through another town. I notice that a lot too. Tracking myself (or when dh visits my page) it shows up from across the state. It's kinda cool to see where people that visit your site are from.

Anyway to summarize, if she had a tracker your hometown probably showed up on it and she freaked out and set it to private.

Oh wow...that does help a lot. I never saw anything that said "You've been tracked" when I visited, but I guess that doesn't mean there aren't ones that don't notify the visitor. Thank you for the info!

Oh...then I probably did miss it. Her page was so crammed with dumb stuff that I didn't notice. I did copy her myspace account in case something like this happened, where approximately would it have been located...I can see if there was something that shows up on my printout.

I feel silly because this is my alias to hide myself from this situation with my sister, but I have read your posts about losing your daughter and I've always wanted to tell you how brave and amazing I think YOU are...sorry if this is misplaced.

I haven't heard of the trackers that you wouldn't have to put on your page to track, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. lol Do you think your parents might have said something to tip her off?

It's hard to say. I only spoke with my dad about this on Thursday and he looked at it on Friday. He did see her ex on Friday, but I don't think he would have said anything. I know he talked to her briefly today but she was wondering where her ex was since he was supposed to p/u his dd.

There use to be a tracker..and AWESOME tracker a few months ago, made by two guys until they became greedy and tried to extort money from Myspace http://news.com.com/2100-1030_3-6077455.html

This tracker gave you a picture of the person looking at your page, with their Myspace link, registered email address and how were they referred to your page.

There are trackers out there that really do work, you just have to pay for them. Though the ones that are "Free" only track those people who are also registered with the same tracker site.

I see it this way, there a thousands of people registered on Myspace and strangers will see your page, so you can either put it to private, not post personal pics on your profile or just have it to be seen by your "friends only"...Regardless, with all the sneaky codes out there, someone will eventually come up with a "how to see a private profile"...it has happened!

So true! One of my exes got into my profile even though it is set to "private" and we have no mutual friends and he lives in another state.
