Alright ladies! Need some advice.

My carry on for my international Canada->US flight each way is going to be my wedding dress with my daughter's dresses tucked inside it in case anyone peeks :lovestruc

SO. Garment bag zippered or box? Will they harass me? Will I have to cry to get my dress on the plane as a carry on?? :bride:

I don't want to pay the huge cost to ship it, and I'm not putting it in luggage. I want it with me!

I took mine on in a large carry on bag. I put it in the gartment bag carefully, than folded it neatly into the suitcase. When I got to WDW and took it out, it looked perfect...I didn't even need to steam it!

When I called my airline, they told me that it was best to try and get it in a carry on, since they could not guarantee a place to hang the bag, or that it wouldn't have something else on top of it.

My daughter competes in beauty pageants so we're traveling with her gowns all the time. What I do is I put her gowns and competition clothes in the garment bag, make sure that we have a carry on with all her shoes in it and put that bag in sideways then fold the garment bag once (it's a wedding garment bag) and lay it over the top of the suitcase. We have never had any trouble doing this. One time we got lucky and the pilot put the garment bag in the cockpit with them so it could stay hung up.

Good luck and Congratulations!

I did ponder it, but honestly I'm from Canada and was SO worried about it getting hung up in customs. At the moment our wedding bands are still in customs and that is nerve wracking enough at 30 days out!!!

my sister has been working for virgin atlantic as cabin crew for nearly 5 years. I asked her whether I could take my dress on as my carry on and she said that she hangs up wedding dresses all the time. She said to not put in the underskirt as it would make it unnecessarily large but thats it!

But it very much depends on the airline you are traveling with so i would check with them first!

Has anyone ever flow JetBlue with their wedding dress?
Fed Ex has lost my legal documents for work before and I do not trust them. My dress was NOT being shipped let alone out of my site. Anyway, I flew Jetblue. It was so easy. I gave my bridal shop Jetblue's carry on regulations and they boxed it up for me in that size box and added a handle to it. I went right through check in with no problem with the dress (they actually stopped me for a bottle of water in my carryon-lol). I then made sure that I got on the plane first (just spoke to the flight attendants) and placed it in the overhead compartment right above where I was sitting. Let me tell you, I carried that sucker until we got to the hotel. As soon as we got to the room, I made DH go outside to the concierge lounge and I hung it in the closet in the garment bag. On my wedding day, Carolyn Allens came and steamed it. It was actually not too wrinkled. Hope that helps!

That does help thank you so much!!!! I have a carryon suitcase that i can try to get it into i think. I will just fold it carefully within its garment bag and even if it gets wrinkled I am having Carolyn Allans come that morning to steam it so i think that will be fine. Thanks again for your help!

i shipped mine with no problems. i had family driving to disney so I sent it to their house, but you can also ship it to your resort.

My bridal shop is willing to pack my wedding dress in a carryon for me, as long as I provide a bedsheet - and she said she has done this for a lot of people and I won't even need it steamed! :lovestruc

In a second carry on she will pack my daughters two dresses!!

Tink is correct. I'm from Canada as well and flew with WestJet. I had planned on taking it as carry on, and called them to inquire. They said it was no problem they hang it up in the cabin crew cupboards AND it wouldn't count as my carry-on allowance :cool1:
As it turned out, just before the wedding a family member decided to drive down for a longer vacation and they offered to take the dress with them so in the end that's what I did. My suggestion is call the airline and inquire.
