My way too short solo adventure TR - Funny Airport update...

K: I feel like you are speaking a foreign language with the acronyms that I do not understand and the names of restaurants and resorts that I have no concept of. You know I love you because this is the first time I have ever blogged...and when I do this, I have no idea if I am going to respond to you...or someone else. You are somewhat addictive though. It sounds like you are having a blast. A and I thought we should take a break from running so we did not get too far ahead of you next week :rotfl2: I have both boys and no FX this weekend...so running is out unless we are both pushing the monsters in the chariot!!! Love T

So today I started out on an adventure to test the theory "If one of the main ingredients of an item is fruit, it must be healthy, right?"

I got up and out the door in record time on my adventure to try Tonga Toast for the first time...I left so quicly I didn't even think to make the most horrible coffee in the world in my room. OFF TO POLY!

On the way over somehow I convinced myself that I should try the original Tonga Toast at Kona instead of Captain Cooks (it comes with "strawberry compote" at Kona), so I walk up to Kona with no reservation and....get seating right away!! They didn't even give me a pager! I almost passed out (I think the lady might just have made a judgement that I looked like I REALLY needed coffee!). And here is is, in all it's glory...the story of Tonga Toast, complete with photos:

First he drops this delightful concoction on the table:

Then this comes:

And THIS is what it looks like when it's about to be devoured:

It was so good - seriously did not dissapoint, and I have read a lot about Tonga Toast on these boards. It was sweet but the Strawberry Compote calmed it down some...it was virtually the perfect start to my day!

Then I went on rides all morning, starting at Winnie the Pooh, Snow White, Peter Pan, It's a small world, and Philharmagic all done by 9:48. Then off to Haunted Mansion, picked up a FP for Splash for when it got REALLY hot, and waited for Big Thunder. Then over to Pirates and tested my theory regarding fruit for the second time today!

Me and my Dole Whip.....ohhhh yeah:
DSC02424.JPG

I must have looked like I was enjoying it an awful lot, cause 2 strangers came up at 2 different points and asked where I had gotten it...not only did I tell them where but specified that they have to order a Dole Whip FLOAT...in between slurps and bites that is...

And by the way - my conclusion by this point in the day is that fruit does in fact NOT make something healthy...Sigh...

After the Dole Whip was demolished I went back over to Splash - I have probably ridden this ride 15 or 20 times over the years, and never have I come off completely soaked...until today. Good thing it's warm out cause I was soaked to the skin...:rotfl:

Now with blisters forming on my feet from the running frantically around, I made my was over to Buzz Lightyear and waited in line for 30 minutes for that - I had a very dissapointing score though - my gun didn't seem to be firing as rapidly as usual...so I'm back to "Spage Ranger". Sigh.

I'm by now, hot, tired, and sticky (but not having a meltdown like the million kids around me - YET) so I decided to head back "home" for lunch and a swim.

Me on my way out:

Lunch has now been devoured - a chicken flatbread with pesto and yogurt sauce (amazingly good!), and zebra domes (kind of dissapointing - I'm not a fan of mousse-like desserts).

The crowd level in MK was shockingly high today (although you'd never know it from my castle pic..it looks empty - trust me it isn't!! It was pretty packed by the time I left - lines were getting long and a lot of people were looking hot and cranky (which I never stop finding hilarious for some reason).

I also picked up a FP for Jungle Cruise on the way out so I can ride it tonight before the parade and fireworks - I'm really excited for tonight!

Oh and here's a random funny story. This older guy comes up to me yesterday and says "you take Disney pretty seriously, huh?" I knew instantly he was talking about the hidden mickey tattoo on my shoulder (the one in my avatar). Then he cracks up and says "can I take a picture of it?" - I said "Sure" (it's only my shoulder) He then proceeds to tell me that he and his family have a contest every day for the most unique hidden mickey, and thanked me for assuring him a win for the day...hilarious.

More tonight, with a review of Summer Nightastic - you all should be aware though that I am a huge Wishes snob so my review will likely be very biased!

Now off to swim - and probably end up hungry again...sigh.

Kelly, Glad you are having a great time. I to love the Tonga Toast at Capt Cooks. We usually go there for breakfast everyday.:cheer2:

It was so funny yesterday my wedding planner says "Hey! I met someone who knows you - her daughter is having a vow renewal..." I instantly almost jumped out of my seat with excitement "OH you met KAYE!!!" it was too funny! Wish you folks wee here this week instead of next!

Oh my crazy sister....spend enough time on here you'll know every acronym there is to be known...althought there are still a few that get me sometimes...but I can usually figure them out! I really AM having a blast - and we have to get back on track running soon - see above for the fantastically unhealthy food I have been consuming so far...:rotfl:

Would you believe that I have never had Tonga toast before? Is it "very" sweet or more "cream cheesy?"

Also, where did you get this delicious looking flatbread? popcorn::

Curious minds want to know......

Kelly the Dole whip float you have is my favorite. I usually have two a day. If its fruit it must be healthy. Thats what I think and I'm sticking to it. Yes when I told her I knew you she said she remembered talking to you. To funny. Have a fun rest of the day and night. I'm really looking forward to nighttime in MK. Can't wait for the new fireworks and electric light parade. We are doing that first thing on Monday and staying at MK all day and night. We may leave in the afternoon when it get really crowded and come back at night like you are. Enjoy the rest of your day.:thumbsup2

I feel your pain about the bus situation at Jambo House. I stayed there solo in December, I wanted to be closer to the food court. But like you I found Mara to be sorely lacking, although the food I had was quite good. What I did each day was to walk over to Kidani and took the buses from there. It's a quick walk, gave me a little more exercise and I always got a seat on the bus.

Tonga Toast has no cream cheese in it...it's his amazing sourdough bread stuffed with bananas, likely dipped in egg mixutre, then fried...and then the whole thing is coated in cinnnamon sugar. It's really good! A lot of people consider it too sweet, but I disagree...I found it just right with the strawberry sauce. I judge "too sweet" by tooth pain - lol this did not make my teeth hurt.

And the flatbread was from Mara (although it took them 15 minutes to cook it!) - it was amazing, even better than it looked!

What a fantastic idea! I'll do that next trip for sure! Although this morning wasn't too bad - I left early so the busses weren't full yet.

It sounds like you are having an amazing time so far! I NEED to try the Tonga Toast! Hopefully I will be back soon enough to try it!

DH and I ordered a flat bread (just cheese) from the Mara, and it took 15 minutes than too! I couldn't beleive it! I make cheese flat breads at home in like 5 minutes :lmao:

Great update - looking forward to details of Summer Nightastic. :goodvibes

How is Pete doing today? :cutie:

Hey...your trip report is AWESOME....keep it coming! I too am wondering how Pete is... Hoping you will take at least one pic of him.

BTW if this is any indication of your wedding trip report (even though I will be there) I cannot wait to read it! You should be a professional blogger....:thumbsup2

Keep it coming, I really want to hear your take on Summer Nightastic and the Electric Light Parade...yay Kelly!!!!!:worship:

your unworthy sis ,

I cannot wait to try Tonga Toast! I booked an ADR for Kona one morning just so I can try it!

OK first off my update on Pete...he is totally MIA today - I almost went and put up some "lost giraffe" posters...but didn't have time. And the only "good" picture I have of him is one where he is hiding behind a tree (I think he was trying to initialte a game of hide and go seek, however it was far too hot, so instead I hung out on my patio with a glazed look in my eye for a while).

So tonight I have to section this off, cause there is just too much to cover...

The Food
Back to Kona I went this evening, this time for Sushi. I'm not uploading pics tonight, cause I still have to organize and catalogue my owners locker and I'm beat...but I had the BEST tuna I have ever had - it was the Poke Salad from Kona - basically a raw tuna salad on some kind of amazing chips (I'm sure their menu did a better job of explaining it) - while eating it I kept thinking of the food network show "the best thing I ever ate". It was that good! I also had some kind of Spicy Tuna Rolls which were awesome, excpet there were raw carrots in them which I found too tough when mixxed with the tuna...great flavors though!

Some Funny Random Kelly Observations and Thoughts
OK so I hope I don't make anyone mad with these but it just has to be done....
1. A lady on the bus said "when I looked at the maps and stuff while planning my trip I thought all the parks were connected with walking paths and stuff...I was surprised they have highways!" Oh man I was cracking up inside at that one...it was pretty special.
2. I saw at LEAST 10 chidren over the age of 5 (I can't prove that they were over 5 but they looked it) with soothers in their mouths today!!! Are you kidding me? Is this normal or am I just nuts, cause it freaked me out!
3. There was a thread a while back about parade ettiquette, and I may get flamed for this because I am an adult (or by the above statement about soothers if YOU are one of those parents - lol....sorry to offend you if you are!). If a parent at any given time ASKS me if their child can stand in front of me, I will say yes. If you shove your FOUR kids on front of me, and one of them stands on my toes for most of the parade AND you stand behind me but put your arm out over my shoulder to VIDEOTAPE the parade I may stand there seething inside for the whole parade....just saying....

On that note - Main Street Electrical Parade:
It was awesome...besides the fact that I waited for 1 hour 10 minutes (which I normally refuse to do and therefore don't see many parades) and had the interesting situation above to contend with. And by the way just for the record, she shoved her kids in front of me literaly 7 minutes before the parade after I had sat there for an hour...I wasn't happy at all with the behaviour if that isn't clear by now....The parade itself made me feel very nostalgic...it reminded me of being much younger and seeing it for the first time. In fact, correct me if I'm wrong but I think it IS the original with no changes (except maybe to lightbulbs).

I think I enjoy this parade more than Spectromagic. It's so retro feeling and sort of glamourous. I love the fact that it's basically all crafted out of Christmas Lights instead of fancy LED technology. The costumes are amazing - the whole thing basically rocked.

I honestly don't think I will ever make a 5 or 6 year old sit there for that long though....really if you don't tell them there is a huge fun parade and just go about your day riding the rides they really won't feel like they're missing anything. But watching a couple with their (probaby 2 and 5 year old) boys today - sitting for an hour (more really cause they were there when I got there, constantly telling them to sit down or they'll lose their seats and stop moving and be quiet, etc...I just thought, man I bet those kids would be having more fun than this on Jungle Cruise right now! Again just my oprinion - but I guess you guys are OK with that cause for some reason you're still reading!

Summer Nightastic
OK guys here it is. Had I never seen Wishes my mind would truly have been blown tonight....I tried really hard not to make comparisons in my head. But I am pretrained right down to where I stood to watch it (which is about 10 feet before casey's in the middle of the street - I basically refuse to watch Wishes from anywhere else - lol). For Nightastic I would recommend standing closer - there are some pretty great 360 degree fireworks but the effect is lost if you stand back where I was. All in all the show is epic...not kidding it was amazing.

I'll start with the cons:
-It's not Wishes.
-It didn't have the same soundtrack as Wishes (:rotfl: OK I'll stop now).
-It was narrated by the fairy godmother (who I found hard to understand - although people were being loud) and Flora and Fauna...I wasn't a huge fan of the narration.
-It was lacking some of the finer elements of some other fireworks shows which I shall not name...like the timed fireworks with music and stuff...it didn't feel quite as in sync.

The Pros:
-In general it was an epic display of pure fireworks power!
-They hit 3 of my fav Disney classic songs/movies (A Dream is a Wish your Heart Makes, Part of that World, and Beauty and the Beast)
-The part where the villains take over the castle was AMAZING - they actually somehow make it look like cannon balls are hitting the castle and blowing pieces off of it!
-During this same part they project a skull and crossbones on the castle which was awesome.
-There were some cool shaped fireworks...many of which I couldn't figure out - I'd have to watch it again...but during the "villain" sequence there were some skulls in the sky which were very cool.
-There was a good mix of traditional and non-traditional fireworks...like for example there were a couple that were almost like 3D shooting stars...it was very neat.

So all in all it was fantastic and I'm glad I got the pleasure of seeing it. But if they were considering dropping Wishes for this I would be sad. It just didn't evoke the same emotional response as Wishes for me....by the end of Wishes I normally have tears (silent ones, not "messy cry" ones) streaming down my cheeks - I just love the storyline...and they way it all plays out. I wasn't quite as caught up in the emotion of this show.

Speaking of emotion - the morning show at MK gets me all teary sometimes too...people must think I am insane.

And so I sign off for tonight with this:

A little magic, wrapped up in pixie dust....welcome to the place where dreams come truuuuue.....

Signing off - will add a few more pics when I get home, likely this weekend.

And by the way Candi - if I bring my laptop on my wedding trip and do a live trip report I'm not sure my husband to be would love that....:rotfl: I have decided I'm going to start keeping a Disney Journal though to help me put these things together when I can't do them live. It's been fun - thanks for coming along on this adventure with me. I guess I wasn't so solo after all!

I agree with you about the pacifiers, purely a function of poor, lazy parents that just don't want to talk to their child or "parent" him/her. I've got 4 and the pacifiers were out by the first birthday. It's amazing how much kids will talk and ask questions when they don't have a rubber stopper in their mouth.

As long as I'm at it, how about older kids in strollers. I'm sorry, if they are able to walk, they should walk.

Parade behavior..It's too bad that so many people feel like their vacation is the only vacation that matters. My 5 year old thoroughly enjoyed all of the parades in January.(I do mean all as my dw insisted we see them all). We'd scope a spot up front in plenty of time as to be able to sit and watch. I think he liked the break from trying to keep up with me and my 6'4" legs.

Good luck with the wedding. Having become a Disney convert in just the last 3 years, I am jealous that you will get married there. Saw the wedding carriage at GF in January, very cool. Going to try to convince my 16 DD to get married at Disney (In about 20 years).

Kelly! I love your recap on "Nightastic". I really want to see it now! I know what you mean though...Wishes is just traditional, and the whole storyline with it is really special (I get emotional watching it too).

I also get emotional watching the morning show at MK, although I missed it on the last trip since the AKL bus was late. That also got me emotional (in a bad way) :rotfl:

Great perspective - I never really thought of the fact that some kids may very well enjoy the sitting!

I guess what I should have said (which is easy for me as I'm not an actual parent) is I wish more parents would read their children and make it fun for them - I see so many who are like "you are going to do what I tell you and it's going to be FUN darnit (replace darnit with swear word)"

The kids for example last night, it was really obvious that they did not care if they saw the parade...they ere just kids being kids...getting antsy and their bums were probably sore....the parents juts kept saying "Stop moving, sit there, it's ONLY another half hour (which to a kid is like 3 days)".

And yeah - I saw a full grown woman in a stroller last night...LOL - seriously, some people!

Well now i'm depressed....Magical Express will be here any moment to take me back to the real world. It's such a rude awakening to go from such a great time to a full day of airports and yukky food.

BUT I get to go back to my super awesome home life, and that's one thing I have missed. My fiance and my cat will be there to greet me (well hopefully Adrian isn't bringing Spiderman to the airport...she's not great with crowds - lol). Back to my routine of trying obsessively to get "in shape" for the wedding...which is all planned now so nothing more to do on that front!

And by the way I think day 1 was just bad luck bus wise - every other day has been great...so hopefully that didn't scare anyone off!

Oh and late last night I was thinking - "what about OKW with a 6 year old?" - I hear they have a great slide, and he's a laid back kid, and I've heard OKW is a laid back place....thoughts?

Anyways - gotta run...talk to you all again, I'm sure!

OK I promise you'll all be done with me soon...but this story just needs to be shared - I have been cracking up for 15 minutes, giggling sporadically the whole time which is kind of awkward in the airport...I figure writing it down and sharing it with the internet wold in general may help.

So I get to the airport - no lines, easy peasy.

I get to the bag scanner thingie...being the expert traveller that I am I remove my sweater, shoes, laptop, blackberry, and my little baggie with hand sanitizer and go through.

I am waiting on the other side for my bags when the guy at the screen looks up with alarm on his face and says to the air in general "I have a visual - I need a double check here!" I was looking around like "a visual - ohhhh this sounds exciting!"

So 3 tough looking homeland security dudes come over to the screen...now I'm thinking "OH NO, did someone put something in my bag???"

One of them reaches into my purse and removes......

My water bottle that I forgot to throw out - it had all of one slurp of water left in it....:rotfl:

Even funnier (I am trying not to crack up at how dramatic they were making this all seem cause I don't want them to arrest me for insubordination or whatever it's called when you laugh in the face of authority) - the guy looks at me dead serious and says fairly loudly "Ma'am - is this YOUR water bottle?" I swallowed a chuckle and said "Yes sir, I'm very sorry I forgot to drop it in the garbage can. Would you throw it out for me please? "

He replies with "Well I can't tell you WHAT to do with it, but you CAN'T take it through here! If you'd like, you can go back out through the line and finish it there, but I cannot let you take it throught security."

I replied again, "No it's OK, you can throw it out, it's almost gone anyways, and I can buy another bottle when I get inside. Again sorry for the trouble."

AGAIN he says "If you want to, you can go back out and drink it."

AGAIN I say (by this time I am prety much just holding back peals of laughter cause I can't believe he thinks I'm going back out to drink my ONE slurp of water) "No it's really OK, please just throw it out."

And then I proceeded through and giggled once out of sight. I looked over my shoulder in case he was going to change his mind and arrest me.

Now I get that we have to be secure, and I have no issue with that but people who take their job THAT seriously truly crack me up. I am not saying he should have let me take it in with me, I'm not one of those people who thinks the rules don't apply to me or anything....it's just that he didn't even crack a smile, it was almost like he was about to read me my rights...

"You have the right to keep your water, if you need to speak to a lawyer about this right you may feel free to do so. Keep in mind anything you say to or about said water may be used against you in a court of law. If you would like to drink said water please step behind the yellow line to do so. If not you may consult a lawyer as to what you feel I should do with said water prior to making any decision..."

Anyways - the airport is quiet, and flights are on time...

Although suddenly I'm thirsty...I think I'll go try to get my water back! :rotfl2:

And now I leave you with....

One jump ahead of the lawmen, that's all and that's no joke...these guys don't appreciate I'm broke...

:rotfl:

 We have always found the folks at US Border Control to be a bit on the scary/funny side. :upsidedow

A few years ago, while checking DD's passport, one guy leaned over and said "Who is this?" to our DD - she was 5 y.o. (and no she didn't have a soother (ever) or a stroller :rotfl2:). All the time he quizzed her about the passport - maybe 3 or 4 questions, he never broke a smile even once! :confused3

Glad that you have finalised all your wedding plans - hope your special day in September is all you wish for and more. :goodvibes

Awesome TR babe. My fav part was when you were describing getting off splash mountain and being "soaked to the skin".

I'm going to assume you meant bone, but it was a hilarious under exaggeration! hahah

"Man, I ate so many cookies last night! I must have eaten at LEAST two!!"

:rotfl:

You know you love me =P
