This morning I found a small bug on Sienna. I don't think it was a tick, and if it was a flea it was one of a shape I'm not familiar with. Whatever it was, it moved and was long, thin, and black, so it was a bug and I want to get rid of it.

I picked up some fresh Revolution at the vet's this morning (GRR at DH for not picking it up last week when he took Sienna in like I'd asked him to. ) and am going to give everyone a dose when I get home. I'm also going to give them a bath just in case.

What I'm wondering is is there such a thing as a spray or powder you can sprinkle on carpet and leave for 30-90 minutes then vaccuum up that will help kill fleas and other crawly pests? The closest I know of is fogging/fumigating the house and I don't know that I want to do that until DH gets home and we can find something to do with the kitties for 5 hours, but if there's a carpet powder I can use in the rooms the kitties frequent most often to help cut down the chances of the kitties getting anything else, I'd like to get some.

Double check with your vet. There are so many products out there that are actually harmful to pets it's not funny.

I don't know if I'd go through all that trouble for just one unidentified bug.

Borax (or boric acid, I think they're basically the same thing) works great. We've used it to get rid of fleas and ticks, and we do exactly what you said...sprinkle it on (it's a powder) and leave it for a while, then vacuum it up. We've only done it a couple of times, but our pets have never gotten sick from it. (We have 3 dogs.)

I with luvtigger it works good to put at your door to keep crawlies form coming into the house, too. It is harmless to people and pets but I wouldn't bath myself in it or any thing.

For fleas in the yard we sprayed the yard with Ivory dish detergent. It really did kill the fleas. We just poured a bottle into the sprayer that attaches to the garden hose. I didn't believe it when our friend told us about it. But, figured what have I got to loose. The best part is that it is non-toxic to your pets.
