My Thrift Shop/Clearance Disney game!

Found some Disney plastic-ware at the thrift store last week (I think some was originally from Disney Store and some was from Target). Two large Mickey head serving bowls (one black and one red), a stack of 6 Mickey glove plates (small-ish.. probably for salad or dessert?), two Mickey head placemats (turquoise on one side/green on the other) and two large Mickey plates. I don't generally care for plastic, but these were too cute to pass up.... especially for the price. After my GW discount card I think I paid $7.20 for all of it. I already owned two of the Mickey head serving bowls, so I'll probably try to sell those. I'll hang the two Mickey plates in my Mickey bathroom as wall decor. The 6 dessert plates.... still deciding whether to keep or sell. And the two placemats I will probably pass along to DD for her on-campus apartment next year... it will be a long-term loan, as I eventually want them for my dining room! The colors go great with her beach/ocean colors and my turquoise dining room.

Not much Disney luck yesterday.... found a Tinkerbelle t-shirt ($3) that I passed on (I'm not partial to Tink) and a Daisy Duck t-shirt that was super cute, but I refuse to pay $6 for a thrift store t-shirt, so I passed on that as well. Had my hands on some Wall-E curtains that I thought about buying to use as fabric to make a Wall-E skirt or purse, but I passed..... too many other projects already lined up!................P

I was in an Antique store yesterday that had the whole set of Snow White decorative plates that I believe Bradford Exchange sold. They were 12.95 each but I passed because as much as I adore Snow White, that would be just one more thing in the house and I don't need more stuff here.

If they had been serving trays, I'd have snapped them right up though. LOL

I love to shop at Goodwill as well as donate. When heading to the tropical weather in Belize or Florida, I add to my warm weather wardrobe with fab finds at Goodwill. I really feel better paying $6 for a skort or $4 for shorts instead of retail since I live in a climate where they are seldom worn.

This entire thread makes me happy. My kiddo had all her Disney outfits bought at consignment sales. Most outfits were $1-$8:figment: Also managed to snag dvd's for $1-$3 and toys at the same sales. I even found a HUGE bin of Disney Mr. Potato head for $10 that was prob. 3-5 times the number of pieces you can get at Once Upon Toy for $20 . I'd love to find more clothes in grownup sizes, but have managed to find a few things at thrift stores ( and torallt raided all the Star Wars sales at JC Penney) . The thrift stores around here are a little tough when it comes to finding Disney other than books and sometimes dvd's. I always get jealous when I hear of thrift scores like Disney dooneys or haunted mansion merch that people find.

Ok the other day my ds made me purchase a weird Mickey Mouse puppet from Goodwill..... We found a photo on Google images that matches it but only ONE. Seems this is a fairly rare toy.... It is from the 80's,I think, still has the original 'mouseketoys' tag from the parks attached to it- it's about 2.5 feet tall, Mickey in a suit, he has long arms and legs, and little plastic clips attached to his feet(?) ,you insert your hand to make his mouth move, he's completely plush. We are trying to figure out what he might be worth. Sound familiar to anyone? He's also a fun combo of cute mixed with creepy lol...

Just throwing this out there -- Goodwill is now online at ShopGoodwill .com. Doesn't replace going into an actual store and stumbling upon surprises, but you can now find items that aren't in your local store.

Does the tags say 1980's?

it doesn't say 1980's I'm guessing based on the tag itself, since I remember that tag from toe 80's on plush toys.... possibly 90's too.... it was that tag that got me first, I looked at it and Bam I was back in my youth looking at plush toys at WDW- I haven't seen that for a while, but I could be wrong lol it's just an unusual toy.

Can you post a picture of it? I am learning about different things from disney. Like if it says enterprises it makes it old. I have only ran across a few items on that. Would love to see a pic of it. I was trying to see if there was one on ebay but would not know what to look for even from your description.

in all my years here I haven't learned how to post pics yet....

I am having a hard time myself with the new site, intact I was on the test board to see if I can figure it out. If I do I will let you know..lol

So I love thrift shopping and hitting clearance racks, the whole thing is like a big game for me. It's also a great way to stock up for park visits. The goal for me is what cool items can I find and how little can I pay for it? (saves me cash, plus it's a great day filler when I'm bored) I found some great Disney things this way. At one thrift store, I found a plush Figment in a space suit for two bucks! He looked brand new! I also found a souvenir cup from DL that I really like for 99 cents. I have found books and such as well. ( I just found a Black Cauldron storybook in good condition - $2) I go to the Disney Store Outlet (and other stores) and raid their clearance items for my next clothes for parks trip. I just stow them away in my closet, waiting. (last time, I found a new earhat, they were 1/2 off!)

This little game is one of the things I do to keep me placated during my loooong years between park visits. Does anyone else enjoy thrifting like this? If so, what are some of your finds?

(Oh! I do the same thing in the parks. Last trip, in one of the gift shops in EPCOT, I found an outstanding big yellow bag with a silver Mickey icon for $12, it had been $36)

Thanks OP for starting this thread! Lots of fun! I too like to discover Disney finds for next to nothing at garage sales and thrift stores. My latest was two Disney plastic cups with lids with Donald Duck on them. They are from Disneyland I believe and look to be fron 1970 or before. I paid one dollar for the two of them.

I went to a local thrift store once when I was visiting Vero Beach. I found a beautiful Aulini spa robe that was $3.00!!! I was so excited, but after I got it home, I realized that it was just too hot for me. I asked my friend who was shopping with me if she wanted it, and she said if I was too hot wearing it, she would be too. I decided I would sell it on ebay. Long story short....the bids just kept coming. The robe sold for over $100. Best three bucks I ever spent!!!
SCORE! SCORE! SCORE!

I'm glad you're enjoying the thread! I'm happy to have found others the like to thrift also! Those Donald cups are a great find! I haven't found anything Disney lately, but I've been stocking up on books starting at .75 at my local Goodwill. as soon as I luck out with more Disney finds, I'll post them.

I also buy Disney books at thrift stores and use them for crafts. I don't feel bad about cutting them up since most of them are well used. We've made coasters, ornaments and mini envelopes from Disney book pages.

This is my 'find' today:image.png

2014 WDW hoodie with New Years Eve celebration images. I paid $8.99 and you can see what it was sold for. I am thrilled with this because it's my daughter's size and we were at WDW on NYE 2013-New Year's Day 2014. It's a delayed souvenir!

Wow.... I bought that exact hoodie for myself recently on a Facebook Yard Sale... I paid $5! I admit, it has one small spot I cannot seem to get out, but I'm still happy with it! Didn't realize it was such a steal!............P
