My thoughts of no Mono after MNSSHP

So we just got back from WDW and went to MNSSHP on 09/16/2011 had a great time faily crowded, but the worst part was leaving at the end.

IT was bad, with no late night mono there was a mad crush for the ferry, we were there for the EMH at the MK as well and the EMH was far busier but was easy to get out of compared to the halloween party, I think in part the EMH is for guest staying on site so allot took the busses or resort launches but with MNSSHP open to the public allot of folks had no choice but to take the ferry, Disney had no crowd control at the beginnig of the lines so people were jocking for position, people either didin't see or want to get into the stroller/wheelchair line to teh left and were jsut pushing into the crowd, when the ferry boat would load kind of reminded me of the old concert days of general admission when the doors would open and you would be swept with the crowd, I can see where this could be a problem with little kids, we told our DD 13 that if we get seperated just keep moving and well catch up.

Here is my thought, where EMH is part of regular park admission as long as you are staying on site and MNSSHP is a seperate hard ticket event at a rather premium price (it cost around $193 for the 3 of us) I think that Disney should have the monorails running for these seperate ticket events.

I will be sending my thoughts to Guest services. No anger just a suggestion

What do you think?

Thanks Dave Goofydad Dionne

I think that the limited monorail service is ridiculous, and agree that at a bare minimum, they need to run for the hard ticket events. Honestly, they should still run for EMH, as well, and adjust supply for relative demand (remove trains from service on a given night).

You absolutely should contact Disney with your thoughts - wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com.

I am in no rush to leave the park so I don't think the Monorail situation would have an effect on me beyond the fact that I actually like to ride the monorail. So I'm content to hang out while everyone else makes a mad dash for the ferry.

But I do understand that it does affect many guests and I sympathize with them.

the thing was we didn't try to make a quick get away they were already locking hte doors on the main street doors, so there was really nothing else to do, I don't think we got in line for the ferry until 12:30 or later
must have taken at least another hour to get the people out of there at that rate

I just sent my email asking them to reverse the decision and have the monorails run for MNSSHP (up to 1-2 hours after the conclusion of the party). I'm pretty sure it is fruitless, but at least I tried.

1) People, maintenance is maintenance.
. . . Would you rather be stuck on the monorail in a breakdown?
. . . Would you rather the monorail be down during the day?
. . . Would you rather a major breakdown and 2-3 days down?
2) Let them do the maintenance.
3) There are other ways back to the resort.
4) You are on vacation, so what is the rush? *

* And, no, sleeping/crabby children is not an excuse. If they are
that tired, you should have left hours ago. IMHO

Not everyone believes the "maintenance" story.

I don't believe the maintenance theory ,sorry. Disney is trying to save money at the customers expense in my opinion.

There is also bus service from MK to the TTC on party nights when the monorail is no longer in service for the night.

Just so you know :upsidedow

It's not about believing. All the things RustyScupper outlined were happening far too frequently lately.

I believe you are correct. It is a cost cutting measure but it's also about maintenance. The monorails need to be replaced and Disney is cutting the hours of operation to get more "mileage" out of them.

I do. It has to be maintained sometime. When those tracks were built (as well as the trains), there was no such thing as EMH, Halloween parties, Christmas parties, etc. (at least not going until 12-2 AM or so). Those events put a ton of extra stress on that system that didn't exist in the past. Asking monorail maintenance crews to maintain tracks and trains between 2 AM and 7:30 or so AM is asking the nearly impossible. 10:30 PM is still pushing it, but it's at least a more realistic window of opportunity to perform maintenance than 2 AM to 7:30 AM. The only way to maintain trains right now is to take them out of service while other trains run during the day. Closing the whole system at 10:30 might mean trains run more often during the days, and of course allows for better track maintenance during off hours.

I'm sure it saves Disney a little bit of money to close the monorail earlier, but IMO it was a necessary step to ensure the future survival of this system. It could be only a temporary measure, but if it's necessary to make this permanent in order to make sure it's safe, I'm all for it.

Yes, but from the reports coming back the buses are not really there...

One said there was a sign and no bus and the other said there was no sign and no bus. So that is not good news...

And, the maintenance story is a bunch of baloney (or bologna :)).

Maintenence or not that should have other ways to make up for it. I've read on here by people who have been to the parties that there is bus to TTC and that there is not. So I have no idea what is true. Since I've heard both from people actually there.

I can see where this could be a problem with little kids

THIS is my main problem. I've been caught up in the mess before and my son has gotten trampled everytime. It's completely unsafe what they are doing. Thanks for the link, I will put in my commnts as well.

If it really is a maintenance issue, why not defer to the fall/winter season when the parks close much earlier anyway, rather than almost in the middle of the summer season?

Or purchase one, just one, additional monorail train and rotate others out of service each day for maintenance?

If it was a cost saving measure, certainly it costs more to operate multiple diesel buses, pay multiple drivers, and increase maintenance costs on multiple buses than it does an electric train with one driver?

Unless you really didn't increase transport capacity to replace that lost by closing the monorail?

Who knows what the real reason is. What's important is that Disney's response is stupid. Plain and simple stupid.

They lost $2400 from me when I switched my December reservation from the CR to the CSR, a decision spurred primarily by this monorail issue. If I'm going to pay a premium to stay at a monorail resort, then I expect the monorail to be operating as long as there are other significant things for me to do and get back and forth from.

So they didn't save a dime in that respect.

What do you think September is? :confused3

I just don't think it is fair to call them "Monorail resorts" when you can't take the monorail there.

It's hooey.

In the summer months, regular park hours go until midnight. According to this new schedule, the monorail will run during those hours. But they can't run for hard ticketed parties?

Worse than hooey. It's hogwash hiding behind safety.

EVERY SINGLE person who pays for party tickets and loses out on monorail access needs to write to Disney about their frustrations on the matter.

Even more importantly, EVERY SINGLE person who PASSES on buying tickets because this is the issue that puts them over the edge and they don't buy tickets this year...... needs to write and tell Disney.
