My take on mousekeeping offer

Im not high maintenance, so i took the offer. Honestly, it was great. After two days I grabbed more towels and shampoo/soap. I never make my bed anyway so I left it as it. Plus i dont like the way hotels make the beds. Anyone see the Seinfeld episode with the sheets tucked in VERY tight? That irks me too. I prefer it not to be made. And yes, im one of those who put the "do not disturb" sign on my door too. It all worked out wonderfully. And i really put that $50 to good use at F&W. :teeth:

If you decline housekeeping, what do you do with your dirty towels? There are too many of us to be hanging and reusing.

Where do you put your trash? With the tiny wastebaskets in the room, my family fills it daily.

I brought my towels to the towel disposal bin by the pool. I dumped my room garbage in plastic bags, tied them up and brought them to the big garbage disposals outside.

I like having my room cleaned. I also get the general feeling that the "security checks" are less of an issue if you don't decline hosuekeeping. Any thoughts on that?

I leave Saturday with my DD6 - it is only us this trip. We tend to take mid-day breaks. I would be a little freaked out if someone walked into my room while I was there.

I also can't help but wonder...since they are blatantly ignoring the room occupied signs...if they have walked in on any couples...celebrating. :)

That would be entirely possible, because on my last morning of my recent solo trip, at 8am, I heard the faintest knock while I was standing in the middle of the room, before I could even say anything, the door immediately opened without even the briefest pause. In this case it was the housekeeper wanting to clean the room on checkout day. I was shocked how fast she opened the door. I told her I would be out at 11:00. ( I wasn’t going to a park that day, and was wanting to enjoy the pool and the grounds until I switched resorts, so I was in no hurry to leave. ) There was no “Do not disturb” tag in the room to have placed on the doorknob because they were in the process of switching to the new ones and likely ran out or something.

We called down and they came up to empty our trash and brought us new towels/took the old ones away.

They're not ignoring the signs. The Occupied sign doesn't mean "don't come in here," or "do not disturb" - there's a reason they changed the name. It's just a way for you to give the staff a heads-up that you're in the room.

Being walked in on while "celebrating" is easily avoided by using the door bar latch.

(And to head off the avalanche of "but they can defeat the door latch" posts....in thousands of posts on this topic, I haven't seen one single report of Disney staff forcing their way into a room with the door bar latch on.)

We always put the latch on if we are in the room for a bit. I think it would at least give you a heads up and if you’re “celebrating” you could hopefully get dressed quickly lol

Yep. I've been traveling regularly for about 35 years, often solo, and in every hotel I stay in, I use the latch. Not because I feel unsafe, but because housekeepers and maintenance guys sometimes open the door about two seconds after knocking and I don't want to wake up from a nap to find a stranger in the room.

In fact, I'm so old, I remember when it was a door chain instead of a door bar. :rotfl:

I’m only 24 and all I remember is a chain. We had a chain at our apartment and that was like 3 years ago lol

With this new offer, you're not declining housekeeping during your entire stay. They tell you that housekeeping would only come twice during your stay...or something like that. If you cannot wait in between visits, as someone mentioned, you can dump your dirty towels in the bin at the pool area.

Your family fills the garbage daily? wow. I rarely need mine filled during my entire trip. Then again you have a family, and im usually solo...I dont normally eat in the room and i have a refillable mug. So no trash really. :teeth: And I suppose my garbage gets full quicker on trips where my son joins me.

Yes, you are. At least that's what both of our offers were. It's all or nothing. You get no Housekeeping during your entire stay. But you can request towels or toiletries anytime you want them and they will bring them to your room. They told us what we'd need to do with towels, I believe they provide a bag for them if you want to put them in them and place them in the hall, but honestly, I forget now (and it's not been that long since our trip this month, sad huh?) We didn't take the offer but they gave us all the info in case we wanted it

Well let me tell you, things must've changed since November because I was told it would only be twice a week. This was at Sports. It was a fairly new offer at the time, and perhaps the CM checking me in was misinformed. I honestly dont even remember if housekeeping came to my room or if i had the "do not disturb" sign on my door the whole time. Nov is so long ago. :lmao: But I do remember being told it would be twice a week.

No, you are correct. It did change from the time it launched till now. At first it was like DVC. Now it's all or nothing.

We never use mousekeeping anyhow, wife doesnt like that people are in the room snooping, but with room checks that will happen anyways. I will gladly ask about the gift card, im sure the wife will spend it on the grandkids.

Is this being offered at every resort? How much is the gift card for each night you decline?
Thank-You

I stayed at Pop for 2 weeks in the first half of December. I was not offered the gift card to decline housekeeping. What I did experience was a precipitous decline in the quality of the housekeeping that I did receive when compared to previous stays at Pop.

There were a handful of days where I was just skipped completely even though I was not in the room during Housekeeping service hours. The floor in my room was not cleaned at all during the entire two weeks I was there. I tried to speak with the housekeeper about it but I did not speak her language so that conversation went no where. I had already spent too long going back and forth to management trying to solve Wi-Fi signal problems at Pop so I wasn't going to waste one more non productive minute trying to solve Disney's problems during MY vacation. (I needed Wi-Fi for work assignments that needed attention during my absence)

I've come to believe that the ability to cut back on cleaning is why they remodeled the room in the industrial style at Pop.

I can definitely see where they will start to charge extra for housekeeping DURING your stay, ESPECIALLY at a Value or a Moderate. That is a profit center that is an untapped new "Industry Standard" just waiting to happen.

The Nickle and Dime-ing, up-sells and price gouging have only just begun. Buckle up buttercups, it's going to be a bumpy ride.

They didn't clean your floor in two weeks. :( I would have lost my lid. I am a clean freak. That is utter nonsense. I am not paying to stay at a rat trap Bates Motel. The non cleaning is going to start drawing rodents and insects. I am totally skeeved out. Like, should I pack a flippin' broom, mop and pine-sol? Do I need to bring my own bathroom cleansers? For Pete's sake I thought we were on vacation....
