My son and his best friend decided to get tattoos. They designed this themselves.

When I asked my son about the design he said it represented his roots. He's lived in NH almost his entire life and grew up listening to the Dead.

His other one is the Chinese symbol for youngest brother. He got that one as soon as he turned 18. He chose that because his oldest brother had a tattoo that says oldest brother.

I think it's pretty cool looking. He got it on his upper arm.

Nice looking.:goodvibes

DS wants a tattoo. He asked me the other day, and I told him "you're 19 and it's your body." He said he still wanted my permission and I said "well then, no.":lmao: He wasn't amused ...much.

I told him to spend some time thinking about what he wanted because it should really mean something to him since he'd have it forever. For instance, a tattoo like the one Jack has on Lost is neat, but in 20 years will you really want a tattoo from a 20 year old TV show?? I think not.

That's why I was OK with his. He's put thought into them and they have meaning. Otherwise if it was something on a whim, than I wouldn't be so thrilled.

I sooo wish I would've listened to my mom when I was 18. I got a purple rose when I turned 18 and while it's not ugly it's just not me anymore and I'm kind of stuck with it. I told my ds to wait until he's about 30 so that he will be very certain that if he decides to get a tattoo, it's something he really wants.

I got one too when I was 18. While I don't particularly hate it, I don't particularly love it.

I plan to get one on my ankle and I've been giving it a lot of thought for years now and I think I have finally decided on something. I'll wait though until after summer (whenever that is here in Florida) since I'm in water a lot.

my brother has some chinese writing tattooed on his arm (he is caucasian). I asked him what it means... he says, "Power"... I go "What if it means stupid white boy?" He just stared at me...

I like it... make sure he takes care of those colors, and keeps them out of the sun for a few weeks!

LOL...reminds me of the Big Bang Theory episode when Sheldon asks Penny, "Why do you have the Chinese character for soup tatooed on your right buttock?" Penny says, "It's not soup! It's courage." Sheldon then says, "No, it isn't. But I suppose it does take courage to demonstrate that kind of commitment to soup!" :lmao::lmao:

Okay, I just posted on the other thread about how I love original and meaningful tattoos...this one literally gave me chills! It's beautiful!

My DD (20) wants one on the underside of her wrist that says "hope" in Greek.

I told her that I didn't think that it was a good idea with her career choice. She'll graduate in about 2 years with a degree in Special Education. Teaching is a hard enough profession to get a job in now, and she doesn't need the principal interviewing her for a job to wonder what it says or to think that it's some gang symbol.

Although she's an adult, we told her that as long as she plans on living at home while not in school, she has to obey our rules. We wouldn't mind so much if it was in a place that could be covered for interviews/work.

I love that line!:lmao:

That's hilarious!

I am working on having my wrists done, they will be the right size and in the right sport to cover with a nice sized bracelet or watch. If she really wants it, suggest this to her for coverage.

I like it OP! I got mine done 9 years ago and I still love it. :)

My husband was born and raised in NH(his family still lives there so we're out there often), and one of his tattoos is the the state motto with the man in the mountain.

I saw you write about this in that other thread(which I've written something out then deleted before posting THREE times now..hahaa)and had to find this to see it.

Husband is also a GD fan since he was a teenager. I'll have to show him the picture later, he'll probably like this.

I have one that means a lot to me and my love of music(it's of a musical artist from the 70's who has been muse to my writing and being), some people tell me I'll regret it some day(and there are days I go yeah maybe) but there are days I remember WHY I got the tattoo and start looking at it again with admiration.
