My 27 y/o dd's best friend lost her little sister on THanksgiving Eve in CT in a car accident. Of course, no one was belted in. My dd is now a seat belt vigilante!! But, speaking of my dd, I have to tell you that when our kids say these nasty things to us, we wonder why they do it. I figured out why with this dd, about 13 years ago. They do it because they can. They feel safe in their mother's love. My dd knows that I will love her no matter what. So, she really tested her new found wings out on me!!! Not her dad, just me. ( I was a single mom at the time...wouldn't want to upset daddy would we??). Now, as an adult, she has apologized over and over for her behavior. ANd it was pretty awful behavior. So, hang in there with the son. Hopefully, he will get his act together and see that he really does need a mom and that he isn't invincible!!! Man, those teen years are awful. Couldn't pay me enough to go through them again!!!
