My sitter turned on the ac and left the windows open- vent!

My husband and/or kids do this all the time. Also leave the front door open with the A/C going. Plus, I follow them around all the time turning off lights. Sometimes I flip off the front hall lights a dozen times in a couple of hours.

As others have said, if she's otherwise a good sitter, I'd count myself lucky and move on. Couldn't be ALL that much money. Deduct it from her Christmas bonus if it makes you feel better.

Well... there is always the alternative.
I do in home daycare and I love my job.
I am well qualified for it.. and have done it for a number of years.
Due to kids being kids.. I have had several items broken..and in need of replacing. I have never once complained to the parent about this..as this is my job and par for the course with children.
I find in these situations it is absolutely best to lay out very clear expectations.
What may be obvious to you may not be obvious to your sitter.
So .. lesson learned. Ask her to please not do that again and explain why.

Hmmm.....It's the year for losing Moms, I guess. My mom was pretty much the only who ever babysat our kids (who were age 3.5 and 5 months when she died suddenly this January). She came over once a week for 4 or 5 hours and occasionally a second time if I really, really needed it. I have barely had a break since January 27th while dealing with a toddler, a baby, staggering grief, and estate "stuff". My husband and I have been out once in the last six months. I'm having a hard time even thinking about getting anyone to watch by sweet babies. Who else could look at them with such love, but Nana?

My mom left the top of the wipes warmer open every.single.time, drying out the top wipe or two. Dear God what I wouldn't give to hear her over the monitor, changing a poopy diaper!

My friend is dealing with babysitter issues right now. She came home last week to find her kids with severe sunburns. The babysitter had taken them to the beach and even though she says she applied sunblock, there's no way that she could have with the severity of the burns these kids got.

The babysitter was let go, although the sunburn issue isn't the main reason. But now things are awkward because we work with the babysitter's mother. She is none too happy with my friend, but apparently her daughter isn't telling her everything.

I've heard of people being referred to child protective service for neglect when the child's sunburn was severe. I think it was a rather extreme case. but something to think about anyway.

I am so sorry. My mother drives me crazy every day. But I couldn't imagine life without her. She has watched all six of my kids while I have worked and it has made it easier on us financially and emotionally. I will think of this post when she is driving me crazy tomorrow (and the next day, and the next).
