I live in maine and to get a roach you have to live in utter filth. I had never even seen a roach until on our honeymoon we stayed overnight on our way to DW in a Quality Inn in Virginia. The bathroom was full of them.

I just about gagged. My hubby cleaned them out-believe me it was the shortest hotel stay ever. We left at 5 in the morning.

I know that roaches and bugs are a fact of life in Florida, but believe me If I ever saw a roach in my DW hotel room, I would freak out big time!!! If you are not used to seeing them, believe me it's a shock!!!!

I am sure that most of us that live in Florida don't like seeing them either but it comes with living here.

Would I move back to PA because of the roaches? No way.

Yeah, I can't stand the things. I won't go near them, but I understand they are a fact of life in this state and there is really nothing anyone can do to prevent them. The fact that you see so few at Disney shows just how good of a job they do.

Definitely agree!

Don't worry about the roaches. If you call down to the front desk, they'll be happy to send up a complimentary "shoe" to stomp them with.

Hope the rest of the trip is great!

Gosh...I needed a good laugh!

Ok, Maybe living in California I am sheltered, or maybe i just expect a certain level of cleanliness when I am shelling out almost 300 dollars a night for a hotel room, but COME ON PEOPLE!

Are you all really excusing the fact that there are unclean, disgusting bugs in hotel rooms in a family oriented resort complex built by a company whos founder ensured that the streets of DIsneyland were washed everymorning to ensure cleanliness? I mean, I hope that none of you would excuse a roach, ant or any other kind of foul insect in your hotel room at the four seasons, or even the marriott, or heck, even a Motel 6. That is just not acceptable. Now, Ive traveled the world, and stayed in some pretty run down places in some of the most remote parts of this planet but NEVER would i excuse this sort of thing like some of you are doing.

Ok.. thats my two cents for what its worth.. i guess im just consistently surprised by this thread and others on this board that continually excuse poor customer service, or inexcusable accomodations just because its Disney, or just because its Florida.

This is not a matter of cleanliness or customer service. No matter how often or well they would clean the rooms, it would be IMPOSSIBLE to prevent a roach every now and then in Florida. If you don't live here then there is no way you could understand. They live everywhere outside in Florida. All they need is an open door and they’re in.

And as a Florida resident I would excuse a roach in my room even if it were the four seasons if that room was located in Florida. I’m going to say it again roaches in Florida have nothing to do with cleanliness.

FYI they still wash the streets every night.

That reminds me how this also happened to my best friend. They always stay deluxe or moderate & after our stay at POP last year (which was awesome) I recommended the hotel to them. Her husband is very Picky. Well you guessed it, they opened the door to their room at POP & there is a HUGE cockroach waiting to welcome them to the POP. They both freaked out & checked out the next day ! :rotfl2: I did the whole explanation about it's FL & roaches can be at the WL or Poly but forget about it. Everytime I mention POP she gets this look of horror on her face that is too funny !

I am not a bug expert at all but I don't think that is exactly true about the utter flith for cockroaches in Maine or anywhere else for that matter. I do know this some roaches come in on cardboard boxes. They lay eggs on the boxes and then hatch in your house. Each egg has tons of little roaches in it so I don't believe it truly needs to be utter filth, maybe a bit unlucky. And then the right enviroment for them to live in. I also live in the NE and you are right that we don't get cockroaches like other parts of the country though.

I know this because after we did some big renovations on our house, and in our yard (foundation work and a deck) we saw what we thought was a roach in our house. We thought maybe it might have came from outside due to all the digging but weren't sure. Well it freaked me out. I am pretty sure it wasn't a roach and we haven't seen any since but I researched and found out if it was a roach it probably came in on some cardboard boxes in the basement. So now I don't keep any cardboard boxes.

Heck once when I was a kid I remember getting take out with my family and a roach came running out of the bag. Now thats yucky!

We never saw one in our room last summer, but boy did we see one honking roach outside the hippie pool at POP. My kids were just shocked at a bug that big. Anyway, I agree it's apart of life in the lovely state of Florida, and seeing one isn't that big of a deal!

24 days 14 hours 52 minutes until back to POP!! :cool1: :sunny:

So are these roaches seasonal or all the time??? This is making feel icky about going to DW and just expecting company on my arrival in my room, I've seen those little lizard looking things but never a roach while in DW.

Roaches also come into homes/rooms in paper bags from stores. YucK!!

Yes it is year round, but don't worry. I have never in 50 trips to WDW found a roach in my room. And I have stayed at nearly every resort.

Oh God, I didn't even know roaches could fly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ugh, shudder....

Now there is two things that I have to watch out for at Disney..... Flying Roaches and snakes. :earseek: :earseek: There was another thread that was posted a few weeks ago about black racer snakes being at disney. I hate both of these things.

I bet there is a better chance of having a palmetto bug in your room if it has an outside entrance. If the housekeeper leaves the door ajar while cleaning the room, they could come in then. A good reason not to leave the door propped open with the door latch that you use to secure the door from the inside (you know, while you run for ice, etc.).

When I was in college in South Texas many years ago, I was a poor college student living in a hovel of sorts. Two miniature bedrooms, living room, kitchen and bathroom. Only $100 per month. The oven didn't work (the burners did), so I had a large sized toaster oven. I also had a tea kettle on the burners and sometimes there was water in the teakettle. A friend moved in with me for a few months and one night her boyfriend stayed late and then left to head back home. She kept the lights low so she wouldn't wake me up in my room. She made him a cup of coffee to take with him in the car. Well, she didn't check the teakettle before she heated up the water, just added a bit more and made him a nice cup of coffee to go. As he was driving home (he had about 50-80 miles to drive), he got a mouthful of dead roaches, floating in the cup. YUCK. After that, she always rinsed out the teakettle before she made any coffee.

We kept the house pretty clean, food was all stored inside the refrigerator. But we still had roaches in the house. The house just had lots of openings where they snuck in.

I should have had a cat instead of a dog. Cats love to play with them until they die. Then they pile them up as gifts for their owners.

This is grossly funny! I live in New York. We have rats in the subway.
They are very brazen creatures - not like they run and hide when they see you coming. I went one stop out of my way last week and walked back to avoid having to pass the rat hanging out on the platform. I swear it was making eye contact :rotfl2:

* think happy thoughts...think happy thoughts* that's what I would be telling myself if I seen the rat looking at me and not backing away. :scared1:

The point most everyone is trying to make is that in Floridia if you "don't" see a roach you are the exception.
Thank goodness I'm an exception! In all my trips to WDW and Universal hotels, I've never seen a roach. I think the roaches at WDW hotels are mainly there because the previous guests brought them from home by accident in their luggage. Just like the pubic hair in the bathroom, just an unwanted, unintentional gift from the other occupants. Yuk ! They should spray each room after every guest.
