My sister just called me and is freaking out - **small update**

I just read this entire thread and I have chills running all up and down my spine. OP, I'll say a prayer that everything will turn out to be okay.

I had a scary time last week at my house. I walked into the house and shut the door. All of a sudden I heard what sounded like someone in my living room which you can't see from the front door. Then the sound of a kids table hitting the wall. It is a wood little table and is right up against the wall and makes a distinctive sound when moved, which happens when you stand between it and the couch. I have to do it all the time to reach the phone so know what it sounds like. I took off out the front door and called my dh with my cell. After talking to me he thought it was probably nothing and that he would stay on the line while I checked the house out. I went back in and looked in the dining room, kitchen and then the livingroom. Didn't see anyone but as I walked by a small table we have I noticed that the portable phone was on the table and a number was on it. I picked it up to hear the end of a telemarketers call. It can't answer itself and it was face up and I did not answer it. I ran out of the house. After that my dh did tell me to call 911. Boy were they fast. They checked everything out and there was no one in the house thank goodness. Later I checked out things around the house and found a cube of papers we use for messages under the table, right side up with no papers missing. It is usually beside the phone base. That was really weird.

:headache:I am really sorry this has happened to your sister. :grouphug: To you and your family going through this I hope the police can get to the bottom of this. Good for you for thinking on your feet and having your sister get the help she needs.

This is really scary!!! I'm glad you are close to your sister and can be of help. I would absolutely insist that she stay at your place with her baby and dogs until more is found out about that phone.

WTH was he doing calling it at 11:30 at night?!?!

ETA: I'm talking about the exterminator that dropped his phone.

I lose my phone all the time. All the freaking time (it's embarrassing). Today I had to go downstairs and ask the concierge in my building to wait a few minutes and then call my number so I could listen for it's ring.

I'd call at 11:30 if I thought I'd dropped it at home -- after all, I wouldn't be waking anyone up if it were at home.

And if I'd been calling all day with no answer I'd assume that it wasn't going to wake someone up at 11:30 if they weren't home at 11:15 when I last called.

That was totally off topic for the OP. OP, I hope you sister is safe and they figure this out.

Wow, I will definitely tune in tomorrow! popcorn::I am going through a nasty divorce, all over the money and my Ex is acting like someone I can't believe, but I have a protection order against him and I have not had any contact from him or his parents in over 2 months. Unfortuately, his atty keeps in contact with me, ugh! This situation sounds like a scarey movie!

......I guess you missed all those 70's slasher movies, where we were always shouting, "Don't go down to the basement!" :scared1::scared1::scared1: :lmao:

Of course, they didn't have very many "Don't go UP the stairs," flicks. :teeth:

Oh but the one they DID have... scared me to death as a kid (I was 13 or 14 maybe?)

When A Stranger Calls.... I watched it WHILE I was babysitting!! I had nightmares for years--that's what I get for disobeying mom and watching the parents' HBO.

One of the scariest movies I've ever watched...or maybe it was just because I was a kid. I know, it's an old movie and kinda cheesy but it still scares me. :scared1::scared1::scared1:

Anyway-enough of that or I'll never get to sleep tonight.

OP, I hope this turns out to be nothing. Does the husband want the divorce? If he doesn't, maybe he thought he could scare her into wanting him to come back home maybe?

Did anyone think to use the cell phone to call your house? Once the police were there I probably would've called my house from the cell phone to see if a name showed up on the caller ID?

It might not work, but but it might give some insight. Also, did your sister check her caller ID on the phones from Tues. afternoon? If this was her DH, he might have called from the cell phone before he entered the house to make sure she was gone. Maybe he was just watching and saw her leave, but you never know....it is worth a try.

Oh my gosh! If that were me I would be finding another place to live. Screw the new locks and alarm system. A highly motivated can get around them. I would never be able to sleep another night in that house!

I strongly suspect it was the ex. You said the dogs were acting weird? That makes me think it wasn't the ex. If htere was no sign of forced entry either somebody is really good at lock picking, has a bump key, or the ex lied and has a key which he gave to somebody else.

If he is harassing her via email about the child support and her first thought was the he was trying to kill her I would not feel safe at all. A restraining order is just a piece of paper. It odesn't actually stop the psycho when they come after you with a gun, it just gives you recourse if they are harassing you or if the police get there before they do something bad.

I agree with another poster. Your sister needs to stay somewhere neutral. He will look for her at your house. While you are at it, I would make sure that the security on your house is up to date since he may come to look for her there. I would also make sure that her daughter's preschool is well aware of the situation and the she has the court documents tating that he cannot leave with her daughter. I would give them that policeman's phone number as well because you never know when somebody will result to parental kidnapping. I hope it all works out for you.

ITA!!! I have a good friend who is a police officer, and has been a detective for many years. He told me that the WORST thing you can do is get a restraining order against someone. All it does is make that person really mad, and they can do damage to you before the cops arrive.

Wow! Just read the whole thread and am so scared for her! I would be FREAKING out still!

I think these are good points.

I really hope everything's ok!! Waiting for an update...

and just want to add...
I know someone who had a psycho ex - not worth the child support money. she agreed to a very small amount (and he never paid it, and she never said anything), just because she knew she had to handle him w/ kid gloves, or he could make her life a living h$ll (because of their son). She slept better at night, knowing the ex wasn't *mad* at her... there's no reasoning w/ a nut!

Just checking in this morning to see how everything is. Hope the police find out some concrete info soon!

Well this has been a good read this morning

((hugs)) to your friend, I am sure it's very disconcerting
