I guess you missed all those 70's slasher movies, where we were always shouting, "Don't go down to the basement!"![]()
Of course, they didn't have very many "Don't go UP the stairs," flicks.![]()
He probably thought he had lost it somewhere in his own home and was calling it so he could listen for the rings and find it (I do this fairly often! Usually the phone has slipped beneath a cushion or something).
If you KNOW the phone is still in the house (or think it is) you just keep calling and moving from room to room until you're close enough to wherever it is to hear it ring.
Of course if you've accidentally left it at a woman's house, you'll scare the bejeezus out of her!![]()
I asked that and she said he said he didnt the last time he left, but who knows if he is telling the truth? He hasnt about anything else.
What kind of dogs does your sister have? Just curious if the dogs "let" the person in because they knew the person?! Just a thought...
This thread just made me realize I've certainly mellowed in my old age, but not in a good way.
Years ago, I would have probably freaked too. Now, I guess I'm so dumb that I would have actually gone upstairs to investigate thinking that its just a phone, never thinking it could be a PERSON with a phone.
I think I need to start watching TV & movies again.
Glad she had her wits about her.
I don't freak out much and have read tons of threads on the dis that said call the police and just rolled my eyes. This would have me peeing my pants. I am so glad she got normal police officers and not lazy ones and that they are taking this as a serious matter. She does need to have someone either stay with her or go stay somewhere with someone. But if he is at all nuts enough to do this I hate to say it but bad things could happen to her and anyone with her. I hate to bring that up but there was just a shooting of 4 people in AL this morning one of them was the soon to be ex wife. She needs an alarm system wherever she stays and to not open the garage until the car is started and it is locked. I hope her soon to be ex doesnt have a gun collection. I hate to be even more dramatic and freak you out even more but this is just awful. If it is him I hope they catch him and lock him up.
Does her ex have a working cell phone that she knows about? If he doesn't (or didn't), I'd guess this was his and he was in the house trying to find something.
It's okay - yes, I posted that it only showed the number that had just called when she heard it ring. She called it back and it went to voicemail and then said that the person hasnt set up a mailbox yet. Which makes me think the phone was just purchased.
I'm glad she got sympathetic officers, but why in the world would she need the officer's personal cell phone number? She should be calling the police line if there's trouble. (And she'd better hope her ex isn't buddies with this officer.)
Pretty darn creepy. I'm glad she got sympathetic officers, but why in the world would she need the officer's personal cell phone number? She should be calling the police line if there's trouble. (And she'd better hope her ex isn't buddies with this officer.)
Well, that doesn't really prove that the FOUND cell phone was just purchased, only that it hadn't rec'd or sent any calls yet (although it probably is new). It was the number that was used to CALL the cell that appears to be new (because the mailbox hadn't been set up yet). KWIM?

It may have been his work cell phone - by "personal" meaning the one that he carries - a direct line to him if she has more info to add to the case file as opposed to calling the non-emergency number and asking for him. I would hope that in a true emergency she'd still call 911.
OP - I do love a good mystery but not so much when it's real life so I certainly hope this has a nice happy and logical ending.![]()
I think she said earlier that the phone didn't have any other call history (other than that number that was used to call it) or contacts. That's why she's thinking it was new.
