and when I talked to her about her trip, she told me what a great time they had, etc etc. She said "You'd love Hawaii! You two should go!" and I told her "well, Disney is building a...." and she stopped me and said "OMG, that is the talk of Hawaii. Every employee at the resort was saying that, not only is Disney building a resort, but they're building the docks for the cruise ships as well. Everyone was talking about it!! They all want to work there!"

Where is Disney Cruise Line "based"?

If it's not a US registered ship (like most of the cruise lines aren't) I don't think this is likely to happen.

Hopefully someone will know for sure, but I am pretty sure these cruise lines have to go SOMEPLACE not US for some unknown reason which is why there are very few cruise lines in Hawaii cruising the islands.... There's no foreign country close enough for a quick trip!

I think you are correct. At least this is what I remember from my long-long-ago life as a travel agent. There is some law that affects foreign registered cruiselines going into Hawaii. I know there are cruises that go to Hawaii from Canadian ports, so that might be an option for DCL. The Disney ships are registered in the Bahamas I believe. I love the idea of those DL DCL Hawaii intineraries, though. I'm sure Disney will figure out someway to make it work.

If you are on a cruise that begins at a US port, the cruise must end at the same US port or a foreign port. Also, a cruise that begins and ends at a US port must make a stop in a foreign port.

Most of the cruises from the west coast to Hawaii will sail in/out of Mexico. What few Island Hoppers Cruises there are will usually stop in French Polynesia.

Ummm, have you guys cruised an open ocean???? It really is not fun. The Pacific is nothing like cruising in the Caribbean. It's really choppy and the swell is huge.

My guess is that they are not going to be making that cruise back and forth from CA to HI every week. Or they will have a lot of green passengers. Right now, only cruise ships that reposition once or twice a year make that crossing. I think you'll probably have a 3-4 day island cruise once you fly to Hawaii and stay at the resort.

Princess Cruiselines has had Roundtrip Los Angeles to the Hawaiian Islands from Oct - Apr, so it can be done for quite a bit of the year. They're 14 day cruises.

I'd love that.. I am not keen on flying over that much water, so maybe a cruise to Hawaii on a Disney ship? (I need a third job I think)
