My sister had an ADR cancelled at the CalifGrille!!!!!!

1. Cancel - we are always asked for ressie numbers as well.

2. Check ADRs - For those with free minutes for long distance, a quick call to Dining will get you your list of all ADRs that were attached to that ressie - including cancellations. If you don't want to call, then upon check-in, go visit concierge desk at each resort for an immediate print out of ADRs. If staying concierge/club level, they will email to you.

Glad it worked out, Tiger

.....and found a butchered spelling of our fairly unique last name.

I NEVER say my last name. I always say "I'll spell it for you". And then I start with "N as in Nancy". Because the pronunciation of our last name sounds very, very similar to a Scottish name that would start with "Mc". If I say it first, whoever I'm talking to automatically has it in their mind (and maybe has already typed) "Mc". After I spell it, then the person will try and pronounce it and then I can correct them (if they are close, I let it go).

And when I check in, I always say the name and then start to spell it for them.

Never had a problem doing it this way for over 26 years.

I spelled our name - with the whole "M as in Mary" - and they STILL managed to mangle it. Both my husband and I have not common, but not incredibly difficult last names that - no matter what we do short of filling out our own paperwork (and even then they get 'corrected' on occation) get misspelled. He thinks mine is easier, I think his is!

Some Dining CMs seem to think spelling your last name correctly is optional. Combined with a guest who doesn't bother to write down their confirmation numbers and its issues waiting to happen. Someday, Disney will really link your resort reservation to Dining (resort reservations have better spelling because its important for the name to match the one on the credit card) or demand credit card deposits on all reservations which would also solve the issue.

See.....I am sooooo paranoid that I will accidentally lose some of our reservations that I wont call to confirm. I will show up with our confirmations numbers and deal with any problems at that point.

1) Not a good idea.
2) It is very easy to put the ressie in for the wrong eatery.
3) Just moving the mouse up or down could change the restaurant.
4) When you check-in for the ADR, the number is for another eatery.
5) Lots of folks claim the ressie was for THAT restaurant, trying to get in.
. . . like appearing at Le Cellier with a Chefs de France ressie
. . . then claim the CM made a mistake, and they should be let in
6) The story is old, and most are told to leave.
7) Better to check well before the trip.

So true! The first year free dining was offered, you would not believe the number of people that tried their best to convince the CM at Le Cellier that they really did have an ADR, but had just forgotten to bring their ADR list into the park that night.:rotfl: The CM didn't buy a single one of their stories and the few that insisted a manager be called, was also refused in. Who knows if some of them actually might have had an ADR for Le Cellier that night:rotfl: We did see one family though who had their confirmation number, who was told that their ADR was actually for the San Angel Inn, but they kept insisting they had made it for Le Cellier. They too were not allowed in. We were told that Le Cellier was running about 45 minutes behind that night. It was actually a little over an hour past our ADR time, before we got in, so we got to see alot of people turned away.

As far as the CM hitting the wrong key on the keyboard that is very easy to do. Twice on my solo trip this past May my ADR had been made for two people instead of one and once it had been made for three people instead of one. I got some frowns when I checked in, but I swear when I made the ADRs I told the CM I was dining alone.

Okay, must be that my husband is a former cop and I trust no one.

Troller: Hi Disney Dining, I have an ADR for the Coral Reef at 6:30 on 10/1/08, Jan Smith, I'd like to cancel that please. Thanks.

Troller: redial: Hi Disney Dining, can I please make a res for Coral Reef, do you have anything open on Oct. 1 after 5? You do, great, I'll take it!

I don't post information like that. I posted where we'll be eating but no times. The mod even pm'ed me that I forgot to put times, no I intentionally left it out.

I'm not saying this is what happened, but it is possible. We know that not every CM will play let me make sure it's you and tell me what number you called from.

I always call and double check the information against my spreadsheet. confirm the times and the confirmation numbers. I take a copy with me and have yet to need it. Hopefully this is enough.

I
2. reservation listed under different phone number. If you call one reservation in from your home phone they tag your reservation with that number. If you call another reservation in with your cell phone they tag it with that number. And in my case I had called from our other home line, so I had reservations tagged with 3 different phone numbers.!!

uh, they tag it? like caller ID?
when I call they ASK for your phone number, don't they go by that?

curious, we have a family group going & it will be split in a couple different groups for dinner at different restaurants. reservations in diff names & diff phone numbers given (cell phone).....BUT called the ressies IN from the same home phone. will they flag this as double booking?
(same address also is gonna be a problem)

We have gone every year for 24 yrs and only happened once. The Hoopdeedoo. Our ressies were made a year in advance for party on six on my birthday. We checked our ressies before we left and they were fine. Went to pick up tickets the day we arrived and they said we canceled. They called and said everything was taken care of. Dragged 82 year old FIL in wheelchair and rest from POR only to find out...not fixed. Wanted to put us upstair, couldn't, wheelchair. Squeezed in an extra table, but sure took the magic out of my birthday.

We always ask the CM to repeat the ADR with time, date and restaurant to us. We record all our confirmation numbers on our trip itinerary. DH also prints out a copy of all confirmation numbers and keeps it in his wallet. Never had a problem with reservations. Or did we?

However, did have a problem with our seating for Candlelight Processional last Christmas. Had to pick up our tickets at CP instead of at the restaurant.

Not exactly the same situation, but here's what happened to us years ago, when California Grill was a supper club with name entertainment. We had reservations to see Billy Eckstein that evening. THis was before the current reservation system ever existed, so I decided to WRITE the Club, confirm the reservations, and say how much we were looking forward to the evening. I got a nice letter in return from the manager, saying how gald they were we were coming, etc etc. You get the picture.
When we arrived at the Club on the designated evening, they could not find our names on the podium reservation list!!! Told us that we never made reservations!! FORTUNATLY, Uncleromulus was thinking ahead, and had the letter with me tucked in my spotcoat pocket. I took it out and showed it to the receptionist. She looked puzzled, made a face, and called over another lady. They both re-read the letter--then immediately went to the reservation list they had at the podium, crossed out a name(!!) and put us in. Then with a simple "enjoy the show" we were led to our table-no apology over the mix-up!!
Now, for sure, without that letter we would have never gotten in. I believe our names were randomly "sacrificed" to let another couple in --CM"s, friends of CM's -who knows?
The lesson being that I always have my ADR#'s with me and the print-out of those #'s that we get from guest services when we check in at OKW.

Oh my goodness, you have me nervous now. I posted on that thread. I didn't even think of this before. :worried: Luckily in my profile I didn't list my full name.

I think the same way as you and have also never put my time in a post on a message board.....call me paranoid also....

I did check when free dining was announced because I had too many reservations based on hoping free dining was for two weeks instead of one week..............at that point in time everything was correctly in place. Its right now - today - that I am nervous about calling back to confirm.....do you think I need to reconfirm for a second time? On the one hand it WILL make me more comfortable but on the other it WILL make me wonder whether the CM I speak to is experienced enough to not lose anything........

Thanks

I always double check while I am making the ressie, but I don't call back again. I don't want the chance of them getting messed up because some went back in to look at them.

Anyway, I was one who's ressie was messed up when it was made - once and only once in the 6 years I've been going, literally 100s of ressies. I showed up at LeCellier on the first night of our trip and they said they didn't have my ressie. I give them the number and they said it didn't exist. I stood there politly and asked what else could be done as I had a reservation. They said that the girls inside would call Disney Dining. After they did they came out and said that our ressie was for the night before. I, again politely, explained that I wasn't in Disney the night before and would never have made a ressie for that night. They wanted to turn me away, but I stayed calm and polite and in the end they asked if I could come back in an hour. I said yes, went and watched the Chinese Acrabats, came back in 45 mins (I like to be early) and was seated within 5 mins. While I'm sure they turn people away; they don't turn everybody away.

Hard to know what's best. I read back the date, time, # of guests and conf number on each of my reservations.

I am glad that I when I called again to make another reservation I double checked on my previous ones.

Two were significantly wrong. One didn't show in the system at all, the other was at a totally different time than when I booked it.

So, for me, I'll always check before I go. I don't want to deal with problems at the podium.

But it's very easy to ensure that doesn't happen. Simply don't put your name and personal information in your profile.

That being said, I have always been asked my telephone number when dealing with Disney Dining, not once but twice. When I first call, I have to enter it into the system and then the CM asks for it as well.

uh, they tag it? like caller ID?
when I call they ASK for your phone number, don't they go by that?

I have never heard of this tagging that the PP mentioned.

WOW...I would never have even thought of this! I'm just too honest to think that someone would do this. Guess I better not be so naive...I won't ever put my times up on the board. WOW. Thanks for the info!

I am not very old, but not so young, that I'm still wet behind the ears. But, I do not have "faith" in people. It's a product of generation X syndrome. We've been taught, don't tak to strangers, trust no one, everyone IS out to get you, backstab you...so I tend to wear smoked glasses instead of rose ones.

I think the scenario I played out can so happen without anyone knowing any better.

In response to the PP who said disney dining always confirmed their phone numbers...I've called from at least 5 or 6 different phone numbers and when I call them, I tell them "there's no telling what number I dialed from" and they always say, no problem, I'll just look you up by name and date.

I can't say that the OP had this happened, just beware that the potential lies there when your profile has information (personal) in it, you post the times of your adr's.....just be cautious everyone.

Not sure that this answers the question but my ADRs are always under my travel agents phone number. If it were a case of them using a number you give them verbally she could just give them mine. It may have something to do with her makeing multiple ADRs for various people within the same phone call.
