My boyfriend and I (I am 21 and he is 22) are going to go to Disney the first week of March. We plan to do the 4/3 deal and we are going to stay at a value resort. I haven't decided yet, but I am thinking about purchasing a dining plan for the two of us.

I absolutely love Disney World. I can't wait to go! He, on the other hand, is really indifferent. He thinks it is all about kids rides and that there is nothing for him to do.

He is an avid fisherman & loves the outdoors (I plan to take him to AK twice!) I guess what I am asking is, what kind of activities and attractions should I put on my to do list? I want to make this trip as much fun as possible so he will bring me back again soon! :)

Oh, and we really aren't into the bar/club scene anymore - which is why I am posting in the adult travelers instead of the college forum.

Any help would be appreciated :D

There is so much to do as an adult or young adult that you could do something different every day the entire time you are there and never get bored. You can take him para sailing, watercraft riding, fishing in the Seven Lakes Lagoon, he could do a Richard Petty driving experience, you could go horseback riding at Wilderness Lodge, you can rent the small 2 person boats at either the Contemporary or Downtown Disney, you can golf at any of the 5 Disney courses or Mini-golf at the Summerland mini-golf course by Blizzard Beach or Fantasia Gardens by the Swan/Dolphin hotels. You could check out the resorts and by the by there are 22 of them. You could go to Downtown Disney and check out Disney Quest and the multiple stores and superb restaurants don't forget Cirque Du Soleil La Nouba, the most incredible show on earth, my dd and I have seen this show more than 5 times and it never gets boring or old. The waterparks are awesome and they have separate areas where you are not mixed with the small ones you are only in your early 20's so you are still kids, we are all kids at heart no matter how old our license says we are!! I am 43 and still love going to Disney with my daughter and we have been going since she was 2 years old I think I act more like a kid than she does,LOL!!!
I hope this helps!! Just remember to have fun and take in as much as you can!!

If he's anything like me, he'll be converted. I went to DW with my brother and his wife last January. I hadn't been to DW or DL since the early 90's, and figured I'd be bored stiff with all the "kid's stuff." Wrong!!!

Probably avoid the Magic Kingdom, to avoid the kids rides. AK is good, Expedition Everest is a good roller coaster. Hollywood Studios has a good stunt car show. Tower of Terror is fun, and he won't think it's a kids ride. I haven't tried it yet, but Aerosmith's Rockin' Roller coaster is suppose to be fun. I've heard Illuminations is good, but I haven't seen it yet. La Nouba in DTD was great. And I'm looking forward to playing golf at Lake Buena Vista on my next trip.

Since January, I've been to DL twice, going back to DW in February. Disney cruise in September with four days at AKV, and looking at another trip to DW in May. Also bought a DVC timeshare.

I'm in a similar situation - I love Disney but this is DH's first time and he doesn't think he's going to like it. He can't imagine why 2 adults would want to go without kids. I can't imagine why anyone would want kids slowing you down!

He would rather do an all-inclusive trip somewhere or Vegas. So I've tried to incorporate the parts of those trips that entice him into our trip to WDW.

For example - we're staying at CSR. I'm told it has more of a resort feel and less of a Disney feel. I've stayed at POP before and your senses are just bombarded! I think he will be able to relax at CSR and maybe feel like he's on a beach in Mexico.

We're going to see LaNouba because he would love to see Cirque de Soleil in Las Vegas.

Our first day is going to be at Epcot which I think will be his favourite park. I've booked the Segway tour so his first experience with Disney will be an empty EPCOT. I think it's perfect!

On our arrival night, I have dinner booked at Ohana's so we can watch Wishes without having to be at MK. I think if MK was the first thing he saw at WDW, he'd assume the whole place was like that.

I have a whole day off planned mid-week so we can just relax at the resort or do whatever he wants to do.

We're going at a slower pace, not trying to hit rope-drop on any of the mornings. We are going at a slow time of year so that's an option for us. He wants to feel relaxed on his vacation and that won't happen if I'm dragging him to parks at 8am every day.

Try to make decisions based on what he will like. There really is something for everyone. I can't imagine that he won't love it!

well from a guys point of veiw....i was in the same boat. the first time i went to disney way back when it was with a gf that had been there at least a dozen times and when she asked me to go i was like "its for kids". dont worry he will have fun. make sure to do epcot, world showcase is fun and the drinks are even better. as far as ak it is one of my least fav parks and im the same type outdoors kinda guy that your bf sounds like. there are plenty of fun rides and rollercoasters at dis 4 parks that im sure he will love but just wondering did you think about doing a day at universal or seaworld? lots of fun at those parks too..... have fun and dont get stressed he will love it:thumbsup2

Another man who is crazy mad about Disney here. When I took DW for her first time our park order was Epcot, AK, DHS, MK. Since she said she thought it was too childish, I put MK last. MK is her favorite park.

We would not buy the dining plan. It is a huge amount of food. Do people actually eat dessert twice a day. We might eat it twice a week, and share it at that. We often share meals at WDW so we can try more things. We are looking forward to CSing around the world in WS.

try a carriage ride at the Fort Wilderness. That's romantic. Definitely take out the boats. I like getting them at the Wilderness Lodge because you can cruise around the seven seas lagoon and past the castle and monorail. Eat at Boma and stroll around the grounds of the Animal Kingdom Lodge. There are so many nooks and crannies in this place. They feed the animals at night and there are night vision glasses. You can sit in the rocking chairs around the fire.
Drink wine around the world.
Late night swims in the quiet pools are always fun.
Too bad you're not at a resort with a hot tub. If you can swing it, try to upgrade to AKL or WL. They are awesome, and a lot more affordable during the week.
He'll have a great time.

Go and try para sailing or horseback riding at WL, he will definitely enjoy the experience. Hope this helps.

Have a nice and safe trip coming. :)

I have to politely disagree with srwarden. With 3 levels to the Dining Plan I'm sure you can find one you'll like!::yes::
1. Quick Service Plan ( 2 Snacks, 2 Counter Service {per night} and a Refillable Mug)
2. Plus Dining Plan ( 1 Snack, 1 Counter Service, 1 Table Service {per night})
3. Deluxe Dining Plan ( 3 Meals, Counter or Table Service, 2 Snacks {per night} and a Refillable Mug)

Last year I used the Plus Plan and found it very flexible. You only have to plan the Table Sevice meals.:thumbsup2

You don't have to upgrade to a Deluxe for a hot tub. I believe all the Moderates also have them.;)
Most of all don't forget to have fun!!:joker:

I don't have much to offer as far as things to do, but your boyfriend reminded me so much of my DH. He refused to go for our honeymoon and it took me about 4 yrs to talk him into going. He has been hooked ever since then. We now go w/ our dd10 2 to 3 times per year.

He was just reminiscing about our before daughter trips w/in the last couple months. The part he remembered most was going into the park in the morning and coming back for afternoon "nap" (read into that what you will ;) ) getting dressed and going out for nice dinner and then heading back into the parks .

I didn't read the whole thread but I know one of the things we loved was heading to the lookout area at the top of the contemporary. It was very romantic.

I commend you for not being into the club/drinking scene. It does get old quick.

Have a wonderful time.

Lots of great ideas here! All I'd add is this...Enjoy the atmosphere!!!

Above all else, to me, the WDW experience is all about atmosphere. With so many parks and resorts and Downtown Disney and the Boardwalk and water parks and mini golf and golf courses and the sports complex and boats and horses...there is an absolutely REMARKABLE amount of atmosphere of every kind to be savored at WDW.

When I went for my Honeymoon, I think one of our favorite things was our "Resort Hopping" experiences. Every once in a while, instead of taking a direct bus from one place to the next, we'd hop on a bus to some resort, stroll around there for a while, then grab a bus from there to our next destination. Sure, it took up some time, but it also gave us chances to slow down and see more of the atmosphere.

Believe me, unless he hates parks and beaches and plants and animals and history and culture, you'll find plenty of places that will thrill him. It could be the "outdoorsy" feel of the lodges at AK and Wilderness, the beaches at Poly and CBR, or even the unique brand of childish joy and enthusiasm that can only be found in the Magic Kingdom.

Ok, so what was my point again? Oh yea, time to buy that Annual Pass!

If you haven't booked yet you really should get 'er done.

So I guess the Country Bear Jamboree is not an option (LOL). There are so many great "adult" rides. Soaring, Test Track and Mission Space at Epcot. Tower of Terror and Rock 'n Roller Coaster at DHS. But I like your idea of doing AK twice. Maybe that is your first day and go right to the Tree of Life and then just happen to wander into It's a Bugs Life - its got to put a smile on his face. Then grab a fastpass for Expedition Everest and while you are waiting hit Kali River Rapids. And don't miss the different fireworks and lightshows at night.

The waterparks will always be fun. Others may be upset .... but I would hold back on taking him to the MK simply because it is more child-like in attitude than he seems ready for. And for sure do the dining plan with 1 counter service and 1 table service meal per day plus snacks. Not having to reach for your wallet (his wallet) makes the whole trip a lot more fun. I think we're all convinced he (and you) will have a blast!!!!
