My roses look TERRIBLE. I was so excited to finally have a designated rose garden and I'm starting to realize that my designated place is in the wrong place. Our property is surrounded by tall evergreens and the rose garden on the east side of the yard. I brought roses from our old house and relocated some from this yard that I didn't think were in a very good spot. Told myself they just need time to get established. Told myself the garden would get more sun as we moved farther into summer. Probably told myself that I needed to start out with new roses
Anyway, they are covered in black spot, some have powdery mildew, most are tall and lanky. All sure signs of not enough sun. DANG! I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I have 18 plants, some hybrid teas, a few climbers, a shrub, & a few floribundas. I can move a few of them into my cottage garden in the front yard. That gets sun almost all day. But I have no idea where I'm going to put the others.
I think my first job will be to strip off all the foliage and force them into dormancy. Then I'll cut out all the old stuff and make sure the ground around them is really clean. Then ?
