I never am sure where this kind of thing goes, so I'm posting here. Mods, feel free to move
.
On the way down (12/9), we stayed at the Sleep Inn in Brunswick, Ga (the one on New Jessup Highway, exit 36A. I had printed off a coupon from the Roomsaver.com website for $45/night, and it said they take same day ressies, so I called that morning and made one. That price was for one bed on the first floor, so we paid an extra $7 for 2 beds (me and my sister). Total w/ tax was $57 and change. Place was clean enough (well, the toilet could ahve used a little more cleaning under the rim, but the seat looked fine), it has interior doors, and they had a so-so free continental breakfast (cereal, muffins, milk, juice, coffee). Careful if you use the toaster! I burned my toast and had it set on medium. For one night it was perfectly acceptable.
On the way back (12/16), we stayed in Hardeeville, SC (exit 5), at the Quality Inn and Suites. We had picked up some of those red/white/blue coupon books on the way down, and we called them around 4 PM right before we reached Jacksonville, FL, to see if they had any of the coupon rooms available still since it was a Friday, and they usually only have just a few. They did, and he let us go ahead and make a reservation even though the coupon said walk up. It was for $49.99; the ad said they were brand new remodeled rooms. So, we bit the bullet and booked. This place I had not researched earlier (the one above I did), so I was nervous. However, I should not have been worried at all! Yes, it is an older hotel that the rooms have been remodeled, but for the price, I was very impressed! All new furniture, and I even think the mattresses were fairly new, too, as they were very comfortable. All new paint, new fixtures in the bathroom (not sure if the tub/shower was new, but the toilet, all faucets, towel bars, etc were, and they were nice ones!), carpet was clean. The drapes were not new, and I saw some in other rooms that loooked like they needed cleaning, but I don't know if all the rooms have been remodeled or not yet (I saw furniture boxes and stuff down the hall from us near the ice machine. They have free high speed internet in the rooms if you have a laptop; if not, they have a computer in the business center (just a tiny closet size room) w/ free internet there. The free breakfast is OK enough; waffles, bacon and muffins were good, sausage and frozen egg patties not so much. The pool area was very clean w/ nice wrought iron furniture, and the pool was open, but I don't think it was heated (it was pretty cold that day so we did not try it
)The people were very nice. I believe it was either the manager or owner that checked us in and took our ressie over the phone. I told him how nice everything looked, and he said he was working very hard to "spoil" his customers. If he keeps it up, he could have a lot of repeat business! I will say this place looks like nothing much from the outside, so don't be fooled.
If you're not super duper picky about places, you would be fine at either of
these places.
EDIT: forgot to say that the QI did charge us $1 for a safe fee. W/ that and taxes, it was also $57 and change. I did not disput the safe fee even though we didn't use it because the guy let us make the ressie using the walkup coupon. I felt it was a good tradeoff.
