How does the dining work on board? I see there are different restaraunts? Is the food included in your cost no matter what you eat? How does that work?

with the exception of Palos (adults only) and drinks (other that at meals in the dining rooms) but yes you go to a different restaurant every day and your food is all included. I believe on the Wonder (didnt do this so I am not 100 percent on this) but Breakfast and Lunch was at Tritons (could be wrong although we did manage to eat lunch child free at Tritons one day) and then you rotate between 3 restaurants for dinner. Tritons on the Wonder was the more "formal" resatuant and then you have Parrot Cay and Animators Palate (which was amazing) and then you rotate through them. They also have food going all the time and ice cream at scoops which is also "free" (not something you pay extra for at the time though I have to say it was not FREE because of the price paid for the cruise) but there is also Burgers, Hot Dogs, Chicken Fingers and Pizza you can eat for free. Buffets for all 3 meals are also free. Soft Drinks were free with a meal in a restaurant but if you ate at the buffet or Pluto's dog house (the burger, fries place) or Pinocchio's Pizza you had to buy your drink. Alcoholic drinks are extra all the time. Room service is also free of charge but you should tip the person who brings it to your room!

I hope that helps!

Like regular restaraunts? (Stop laughing at me rofl) I've only been on one cruise before - Carnival to the Bahamas, and we ate at the same place, same table every night, and unless it was buffet night, they served the same food to everyone (at least that's how I remember it) It was different food each night, but I don't remember getting a choice. Course it's been about 10 years now so i might be wrong on that too!

Yep, just like a regular restaurant. They have a menu with starter choices, then main courses and desserts. You can have whatever you want with no additional fee. A few times we'd ask him to bring a 3rd something for my husband and I to try although we ordered our own real things. Very easy and very fun!

yep just like a regular restaurant! You get a menu with different choices on it and you can order 1 or 10 of whatever you want that night. They have kids menu's for the kids if you have them that have pizza, chicken nuggets, pb&j type stuff on them. the kids can also order off of the adult menu which had things like Filet Mignon, Prime Rib, Fish (cant remember what kind cause I HATE fish) but lots of stuff. You get your choice of appetizers, salads, soups, main dishes and of course dessert! For instance on our 4 day cruise the dining rotation for us was

Embarkation night we at at Parrot Cay. Really great food and we were at table 66 (I think...It's been a month now). We ate dinner a full meal and then left

Monday (nassau) we ate at Tritons the more formal dinner again at table 66 with the same exact waiters on the early seating (They have 2 different seating times early and late).

Tuesday (Freeport) We ate at Animators Palate (where the room is black and white and during dinner changes to color) where we were again at table 66 with the same waiters

Wednesday (Castaway Cay) we ate again at Parrot Cay again at table 66 again with our same waiters.

Thursday morning for breakfast we ate again at Parrot cay again at our table 66 and had our same waiters.

I think you get a choice of 4-6 different entree's and 3-4 appetizers and salads and then of course 4-5 dessert choices!

Hope that helps!

There are no stupid questions, only stupid people. :p One thing that amazes and impresses me about this board is that no matter how many times a questions is asked, the denizens of this board answer it as if it was the first time they ever heard it.

I think you got your answer, but yes, unlike Carnival, dining on DCL is a rotation throught three restaurants - Triton's, Animator's Palette and Parrot Cay on the Wonder and Lumiere's, Animator's Palette and Parrot Cay on the Magic. Palos is an adult only, alternate choice that comes with an additional small charge and you would need to make reservations for (and give up one night in one of the restaurants in the regular rotation.)

I was curious about one comment you made. Did I understand correctly that when you were on Carnival, it was a fixed menu? We sailed on the Fantasy in 1996 and I recall having choices at each meal.

And you know what the BEST part of ordering off the menu is? You can order as much as you want! On our cruise, steak was one choice and crab legs another. I ordered BOTH cause I wanted surf and turf! The said NO PROBLEM! And brought both!
(I am sure they were thinking - fat, gluttonous American.) ha ha

I don't remember having choices when we cruised Carnival, but like I said it was about 10 years ago, so I might be wrong. Maybe we did have choices and I just forgot. I was too busy drinking to really care. :O)

I think the three day is a lot more casual than the 7 day but still see MOST people more "formally" dressed for Tritons. Sport coats for men and nice dresses (not formal) for the ladies is what we saw more of. You will see everything and I really wish if people only had jeans to wear that they would stay out of the restaurants and follow the dress codes. There are alternative places to eat if you don't have the proper attire.

whoops, ignore that last post as its on the wrong thread.

sorry!!!

I once ate at what appeared to be a "regular restuarant" in NYC called Le Steak, or something to that effect. They only offered "Le Steak's steak" prepared only one way. It wasn't crowded but it sure was expensive!
