We're just back from 10 days at OKW in a 2BR over Thanksgiving week. It was a great trip and we were there long enough to be very relaxed. I posted a separate thread on our experience with OKW on the DVC board....but thought I'd post a trip report here. Here's the link to the OKW report if you are interested.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=29003381#post29003381

My DH, my DD9 and I departed Providence on Saturday 11/23 at mid-day. My older DD's would join us later in the trip as neither of them wanted to miss more than a few college or high school classes. My DD17 wanted to partake in the powder puff football game the day before Thanksgiving. It's a huge school rivalry with a neighboring town and she's a senior - so we understood. But it was hard to leave her behind.

The trip had been a surprise for our DD9. We did not tell her until the Thursday before our departure which was her birthday night. I gave her a Magical Express luggage ticket and a Disney gift certificate......but she didn't get it! So we had to explain. She was excited, but not over the top. She didn't have much time to process the news in that she had to play in a hockey tournament game Friday night before our departure. But she was excited.

We had surprised her two years ago over Thanksgiving for her birthday. That time we picked her up from her afterschool program and drove right to the airport that Thursday. She didn't know where Tampa (Orlando flights were sold out when we booked) was and didn't understand until the next day that we were in Florida and on our way to Disney. Her reaction that year was so much more fun. This year she was a bit more reserved. Oh well. It seemed like a good idea at the time to surprise her. I think I'll tell her earlier next time.

Our Southwest flight arrived on time in Orlando and our room at OKW was ready when we arrived. We were able to quickly drop our bags and head to the MK for a 5:30 ADR at Crystal Palace. I had feared we might miss this reservation as it was so tight, but we arrived only 20 mins late and the head CM at CP was kind enough to let us keep the ADR. As it turns out, they were 20 mins behind and they were seating the 5:15 ADR's as we arrived. So we were inside within 10 mins. I thanked them several times on my way in and out.

The food at CP was as always plentiful with enough interesting offerings for kids and adults. It's not as tasty as some of the better restaurants, but it's good food. We were hungry and it tasted great.

I was not prepared for what happened after we arrived, however. My DD9 refused to sit on the outside of the table and insisted she did NOT want to interact with the characters. She was dead serious and I was stunned. This is a girl who had her birthday party earlier in the week at the American Girl Store and was fashioning hair do's on her doll with her friends. She's a girly girl most of the time and loves dressing up.

She has, however, been playing ice hockey with boys for over a year now.....and so her tastes have changed a bit. But I was not prepared for a complete ban on characters and princesses so soon. Perhaps it was because she hadn't had a lot of time to think about and plan for the trip. Or it might have been different because her older sisters were not there at the start of the trip. I'm still not sure.

We did manage to get her to sit on the outside with her father....and I got some good pictures. She did enjoy herself and loved the cuddling she got from Pooh "because he's so soft". She eventually relaxed a bit. But it was a little bittersweet knowing that we may not have many if any character meals in our future!

We spent the remainder of the night in the MK doing our favorite things as a threesome - Buzz, the cars, the tea cups, Haunted Mansion and Thunder Mtn. We left around 9:30 as we knew we'd be back in the MK in the am for a breakfast at CRT. I was very worried about how well that would go over!

We got back to OKW and unpacked. It was nice to relax and realize that we had 9 more days of fun to enjoy. We went to bed happy to be "home" in DVC and back at WDW after a two year absence. More later.....

Great TR. Sorry you are not feeling well. My DS (11) plays hockey as well. We just returned from Hershey PA for our tournament.
Get better

Thanks kato0627. I've not ever done a full trip report....but I just feel like it this time!

I'm not sure if this is a cold that I picked up at WDW or on the plane ride home - but it's a doozy. I'm on my 4th cup of tea in 4 hours just to be able to swallow. I hope my DD9 can go back to school tomorrow.

We missed the rest of the tournament over the 11/21-23 weekend and 2-3 other games and 3-4 other practices! We're new to hockey as our other daughters played basketball and field hockey or danced and played volleyball. My DD9 flipped over to hockey after 4 years of figure skating so she's a strong skater who's got a lot to learn in terms of stick and puck handling. Some of the kids she is playing with have been doing nothing but hockey for 5 years and are 2-3 times her size. But she loves it.

I have to say, however, that I really didn't miss it while we were at WDW. Don't tell her coach!!!!

Day #2 is next up.

Just found your TR.

My daughter a little older than yours 39 yrs. and my two Granddaughters are 13 and 9 but they're all Princesses in my eyes.

I'm sure you feel the same about your Daughters.

Will be watching for your next update.

On Sunday 11/23 I tried to rouse my DD9 and my DH at 7:00, but they were dead asleep. It was hard getting them out the door to the MK, but we had breakfast scheduled with Cinderella. I was a bit concerned about how this was going to fly.

We got to the MK, headed through the special line for early ADR's and made a bee line for the castle. We were 10 mins late.....per usual. If my DH has somewhere he thinks is important to go - like a basketball game - then he's all over it and out the door early. If it's not his agenda, then he drives slowly, walks slowly, etc. It's highly annoying and when he reads this he'll tell me I'm way off base. But I've lived it for 25 years. Basketball is important. Everything else is not so much.

My DD9 was so not into this trip to the castle that she was trailing as well. Oh well.....I was going to have a good time.

We were last in line for our sitting for the photograph with Cindy. Of course my princess did not want to dress up. And we had to be in the picture with her.....or it wasn't happening.

Her biggest complaint? That she was the oldest princess in the room. Not really and she's pretty short so she doesn't look her age. I also knew there was another DIS'er upstairs with her DD9. But she wasn't buying it.
Okay, that's fine. Whatever. I couldn't cancel the reservation, so let's just have a good time.

We went upstairs and were seated near the inner edge of the upper right platform overlooking the tables below and the windows in the back of the castle. It was a nice spot to view the whole room and the carousel.

Our princess refused to sit at the side chair......but the Disney princesses found her anyway. :thumbsup2 She allowed them to sign a book that I had brought and she waved the wand at least once during the wish granting music (I'm not sure what to call it!) She was much less enthusiastic than she had been two years ago.....but she participated at least. I really did not see this coming.

Ironically, it annoyed her that the kids breakfast did not include potatoes or sausage, but rather french toast. So we shared of course. I guess it will be a good thing that she'll be 10 on the next visit and a full participant on the meal plan. Of course my DH is not thrilled that we'll lose the under 10 discount on her dining plan AND ticket next time. Can't make them all happy!

A highlight of the breakfast was meeting Kmores and her family. We have been pm'ing back and forth on the boards for nearly a year. We were in WDW at the same time in November 06 for Thanksgiving but never crossed. This year we were at the same breakfast at CRT by accident (we knew in advance, however) and we had a secret adventure planned for our DD9 birthday girls and another DIS family that night. Kmores daughter turned 9 on the 23rd. My DD9's b-day was 11/20. We introduced them at breakfast......but there wasn't much interaction. YET!

After breakfast we headed out to hit some MK rides including Buzz, the cars, Goofy's roller coaster, the teacups and Thunder Mountain. Surprisingly, my DD9 did not want to do Space Mountain which she LOVED on the last trip. No big deal.....we have 8 more days.

We left the MK at mid-day and headed back to OKW and the pool. It was a nice sunny day and we wanted to enjoy the warmth of the sun. We rested in the room a bit as well.

Based on the luke warm response to the CRT meal.......I cancelled the Norway Askerhaus breakfast for the the next morning. That's my favorite....maybe next time. No sense wasting precious table service credits if DD9 is just going to pout. I'm sure my cancellation made someone else happy!

Need a break. Back in a bit.

Hey Kadesha,

The cruise with you and kmores is up next. But I've been in bed all week with a nasty bug. I think I'm feeling better......but I haven't been online much. Right now I'm making up an xmas list for my kids. With our 10 days in WDW and now this week lost to a cold......I am soooooooo far behind.

I also have to help my DD17 with the last of her college applicatioins. They need to be done and turned into her Guidance office on Monday. All of a sudden she's decided to apply to UNC-Chapel Hill and Tulane. I have no idea what state she's going to end up in. But I just want them DONE.

Santa's got a LOT of work to do. My DD9 has a HUGE list and I need to pair her expectations back. Santa can't afford a 10 day trip to WDW and a two page list.

I'll be back soon.

You think? I literally was sick from when I got off the plane until this week..... :headache: I have trouble remembering that we actually spent 10 days at Disney.

I have so much cleaning and wrapping to do that I won't get to it till after the holidays.

Happy Holidays.
