One of our cats, Binx [we rescued him about 6 months ago] has come down with some sort of illness. We rushed him to the vet yesterday with extreme salivation and he was extremely lethargic. They kept him overnight, took bloodwork and his temperature. This morning, he woke up with a fever, and they took some x-rays to see if there was something in his stomach or throat that may cause him to act so sick, and there's nothing. His fever is continuing to get worse and they don't know what's wrong. They're keeping him overnight again. I'm extremely upset, and there's nothing I can do. :guilty: :sad2: :sad1: Please, if you could pray for my little Binx, I would really appreciate it. He can use all the good thoughts, prayers, and pixie dust you all can give him.

Also, if anyone has experience with their cats doing this, PLEASE let me know. I just want to know what's wrong with him. :sad1:

Aww, he's a cute kitty!

I have no experience with this particular problem but I have had sick critters before and I know how tough it is. Especially when they can't find out what is wrong. I hope the source of his illness is discovered soon so he can be treated and come home.

Prayers said!

Awww he's adorable! Thinking good thoughts for Binx!

I have no specific advice for you... just know I have your kitty in my prayers.

I'm so sorry to hear your cat isn't well. I've done some searching online to try and match the symptoms with various cat maladies but came up empty. Does your cat go outside? Maybe he got into some sort of poison.

Here's hoping the Vet can figure out what is wrong. Please let us know how he's doing.

Hi
I'll say some prayers for you kitty!! I love animals and hate to see any animal feeling sick. Please let us know how he is doing.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the good thoughts and prayers. I know he'll pull through.

Virgo19- No he doesn't go outside so he couldn't have eaten anything there. We checked all the chemicals in the laundry room, etc. but couldn't find anything.

Thanks again everyone. I'll keep you all updated.

It sounds very much like an illness one of my cats had many years ago. It was a very contagious virus that she picked up from another cat while being boarded for a couple of days. Has Binx been around any other cats? If it is the same virus, my cat did recover. I hope Binx is feeling better very soon!

I did find one article that mentions both lethargy and excessive salivation. It was for liver disease. Did the Vet run any liver function tests?

The liver filters many of the body's waste products and toxins from the bloodstream, so that accumulation of these substances as a result of inadequate liver function affects the brain, and blunts the sense of hunger. Common diseases of the liver in cats include chronic hepatitis (not the same as human hepatitis A, B, or C, and NOT contagious), hepatic lipidosis (fatty deposits in the liver), cirrhosis (severe scarring of the liver), liver cancer, and adverse reaction to certain drugs (e.g. carprofentrimethoprim-sulfa, others).

Liver diseases in general often will also cause increased salivation, vomiting, and lethargy and sluggishness.

Aw, what cute kitties. Good thoughts for:hug: Binx.

Awww, what a sweetheart. I will be thinking good thoughts for your wonderful kitty.

Yes, he has been around other cats. We have 5 total, and we just brought a new persian home about 2 weeks ago from a cat show. Maybe he brought the virus? We're not sure.

Thanks again everyone.

Sending lots of good thoughts and prayers. I have no experience or advice for you but he is in the right place to get all the care and help he'll need.

Keep us posted.:grouphug:
