So we are sitting here at dinner and DS7 pops up with I'm glad no one here is deaf because we wouldn't understand what they were saying (we watched Supernanny last night, the parents were deaf). So I said yes you would if they knew American Sign Language (ASL). You would communicate using your eyes and hands instead of your mouth and ears.
So DH asks him how would you read if you were blind? DS8 knew the bumps but not the name, so DS12 pipes up with braille. DH asks how would you get the bumps on paper. No one knew, so DH says with a typewriter.

DS8 said, "what's a typewriter?"!!!!!!!

OMG I never laughed so hard in my life. Thank god for youtube!!! DH was able to find a clip of a typewriter in action.

My daughter & I were grocery shopping not too long ago -- now mind you, she is 19 already, and I told her that I remember the times that there were no bar codes on any products and she wanted to know how the cashier scanned in the items. :teeth:

I did laugh, and told her there used to be these cash registers where you would have to press on the keys to enter the item, and in those days :::gasp::: you had to count the change back.

There have been so many changes in our own lifetime that we forget that the "younger" generation has never seen things that used on a daily basis. :)

I worked at Michael's and we had to ring in the prices. LOL
We didn't get bar code scanners until we moved into a new location.

That was only 12 years ago.

My other favorite is a rotary phone! I got DD one for Christmas, the old white toy one that has the eyes that move when you dial. The kids were fascinated with it!

My parents (78 & 80) have a rotary dial phone in their bedroom and the younger half of my kids and all of the grandkids wanted to know how it worked. They didn't realize what it was until it rang.:rotfl:

Lol- that is too funny! We lived in the boonies when I was little and we had the rotary phone along with a "party line"- we shared a phone number with several neighbors, so you had to pick up the phone and make sure no one else was on before calling. You also had to be careful what you said!

how funny so of these are. we were just talking about this the other day. i still have a typewriter at work (that i use!:scared1: ) and my inlaws still have the rotary phone!:scared1: OMG! and no cable!:scared1: more $ than they know what to do with! :confused3

how about s & h green stamps? do you guys remember those at the supermarket?

i remember those ashley. my grandmother had the party line!

Oh, these are funny! We never had the party line, or anything like that.

I used to say to them "you sound like a broken record!" And they knew what it meant...sort of...one time they asked "what's a record" :lmao: I stopped saying it after that....

Granny and them still had a party line in the late 80s...OMG..it was so much fun to listen in on conversations... we got into a lot of trouble..but it was fun to tell on the aunts and uncles for their sha-na-gans....and watch them try to figure out how their parents found out...little did they realize..the neighbors talked...but with the party line... we would pick up the phone to call someone ....and they'd be chattin' it up and debate-ing whether to tell Granny & Pap...and we'd nark them out!!! Just about as much fun as walking down to the barn store..yep, the little store was in a barn... I remember going down and asking "I" for my bag of candy.. being the oldest grandkid and babied...I got special attention!!! LOL Still to this day when we go back to visit one little family still shows photos of me and my little brown bag of candy sitting on the counter @ the barn store!!!

We are all too young to be walking down this path of remember when!!!:lmao:

Too funny!

My grandparents still had a rotary phone up until fairly recently. One of my younger cousins went to use it, and was stumped. "How do you dial this thing?" he said. Umm, you DIAL it. We got a lot of mileage out of teasing him about that.

My best friend in hign school had a party loine. We had to be very careful in what we talked about.

My daughter asked me why we say that we dial a phone #.

When my daughter was about 4 (1985) she came running to DH and I, incredibly excited because she had found a box full of antiques upstairs! It was our albums!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
