Our April/May Trip 2004

Accomodation:
POFQ - Photos dont express what a beautiful resort this is. Much nicer and more upscale than POR. Buldings are painting in pastels, with gorgeous wrought iron railings and trellis work. Grounds and rooms were immaculate. Rooms had a very deluxe feel to them. Walls were painted pale blue with a darker blue scrolled border around the top. Beutiful paintings on the walls and brass lamps above beds. Beds were comfy and quite soft. Bedspreads were in golden and jewel tones with Mardi Gras characters on them, and hidden Mickeys, bedskirts were in a beutifully contrasting midnight blue with golden squared pattern. Headboards and furniture was in beautiful Mahogony with brass accents. Chairs had Mickey heads on seat fabric. Look out for the beautiful crystal drawer-pull on the bedside cabinet. Carpets were in blue/jade scrolling pattern and felt like very high quality. Sinks were new with shiny chrome faucets. Could have still done with additional sink area bench space though a narrow shelf was above the sinks. Bathrooms had new fittings and paintwork, though tiles were not new. They could have spent a little extra and retiled them though instead of cleaning them up. The shower curtains in Navy and Green striped patterns with gold scrolls seemed like an attempt to blend in the yellowed tiles to the white bathroom fittings. Floor was in small hexagonal white tiles with Dark green hexagonal patterns. Grounds awesome. Neat formal styling. Mostly paved areas, with park like atmosphere and landscaping. Lots of trees, busy lizzies, ferns, fenced in with shiny black iron railings with horse head tops in areas. Lovely fountain on lawned area nr building 5. Beautiful rectangular frog fountain pond behing building 6.Lots of wildlife inc.the odd harmless black snake, squirrels, birds, lizards. Our room was waterview and had a lovely courtyard in the front of it with a Sago palm centerpiece surrounded by four benches. Building 6 - and our rooms were only 60 second walk to the foodcourt, and 5 mins to POR, though it was only a couple of minutes walk from the furthest building in the resort to the food court. Food court - excellent, clean. Wooden tables, large screen TV and coloring station for kids, large mardi gras icons hanging from ceiling. Lovely breakfast choices with TV screens above stations showing menus and pictures. My favorite was Bills Breakfast Blast - a sweet bread pudding layered with a sweet white sauce and blueberries and cinnamon, served with sausage or bacon. Fast service friendly staff. Good evening meals too - inc Jambalaya, rib/ chicken combos, etc - more selection than just burgers and fries. Jackson store shop - friendly staff, but small and lack of variety. Scat cats lounge - immaculate love the piano. Laundry room was great. Lots of machines, clean and good location next to the pool. Playground was excellent. Hot tub was lovely, set in hedged area away from pool, and rarely busy. Pool - awesome. Spectacularly clean. I loved the tall Mardi Gras Jester, and brilliant bright paintwork, lovely alligator icons, excellent serpent slide - named 'Scales'. Lifeguards were very attentive. There was a hair braiding station open from 10 am. The river boats to DD and POR were great and captains were friendly. We had a hire car, though used buses on occasions. They were very punctual and we never waited more than 5 minutes. I loved the soft jazzmusic playing around the resort. IMHO this is the most beautiful and best of the moderate resorts. Very laid back, relaxing and fun and friendly atmosphere. Glad I chose this over the POLY. I would have missed out!

Great reveiw! Thanks for sharing!

I just stayed at the POFQ as well, and loved it! It's still my favorite resort!

Thanks you so much for your very detailed review.:sunny:
I am heading to POFQ next week and was so excited to read your report. It sounds great!!!!!!!:bounce: I can't wait.:teeth:

Good morning from the Delta!

I really enjoyed your review of the POFQ. We will be staying there for 2 nights before moving over to FW to the cabins. I needed a first night room, as I have to pick Mom up from the airport a day early. The great rate I got was really an enticement to try the POFQ. I had thought about PC, but for the room decided to try the French Qtr.

It sounds almost like a deluxe for the price of a moderate, but shhhh, we don't want that secret to get out! ;)

Thanks for the review!! We're staying there for the first time in August, and I don't know much about the resort.

I printed out a resort map, but it's hard to tell how big the resort really is - is there a "bad" location when it comes to walking distance to the bus stop?

Thank you for your review. As an English teacher, I was very impressed with your detailed and descriptive writing. If only I could get my 8th graders to write that well. LOL!
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to staying there in July. I'm looking forward to your pictures.

Twenty days and counting until I can see with my eyes what my imagination portrays with your review.
I stayed at POFQ in March 2003 and am really looking forward to seeing the results of the rehab.
One thing, how long does it take to boat from POFQ to DTD? Also, how long is the wait for the boat? This is one thing I overlooked and didn't experience on my last trip.

Thanks for that great review! Some of our guests will be staying there for our October wedding. We visited our last trip and fell in love with the grounds. Really beautiful plantings and a nice place to just relax and take walks.

Rooms were deluxe and nicely decorated.

Wow, what a lovely, descriptive review. I really could imagine what you were describing. I will be there in a week to see for myself and I cannot wait!!! Thanks so much for the details and I can't wait to see your pictures. ::MinnieMo

Wow - thanks for the great review :teeth: ! Now I am really excited about our choice of resorts. We will be there in November.

Move faster countdown timer :Pinkbounc !

thanks for the review, I am so excited and still have a long time to wait!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Thank you so much for the great review. We'll be there next month and I was having my doubts because the only moderate we have ever stayed in was CBR. It was OK but we didn't love it. Now I'm getting very excited! If it's half as nice as your description, I know we'll love it.

I guess the furthest building would be building 7. It was close to the bridge between POR and POFQ. Still only a 2 or 3 minute walk to pool and foodcourt. Boats to DD were every 20 or 30 minutes I think. We got a Mardi Gras coin from the boat captain at the end of the night. I will work on the photos over the weekend. I have lots!
Forgot to mention - the coffee makers in the rooms were great. They made enough for 2 cups and the coffee was replaced daily along with creamer & sugar/sweetner. It wa also great to have a hairdryer and iron & ironing board in the room without having to ask for them. Wish the refridgerator came free too though:rolleyes: ;) I also saw the horse and carriage ride through the resort each evening past our room. We didnt do this though as we walked the resort instead. It cost $29 for the horse and carriage ride wich could be prebooked.:D

Thanks for such a great review! We are staying there in July for the first time so I am reading everything I can find about this resort! I can't wait:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc This has been a resort I have always wanted to see and especially now that it has been refurbished. Is it too early to start packing?

thanks for the review, I am really looking forward to my stay there, and hopefully will get a chance to stop by on our mini trip next week.

We just got back from our first stay at POFQ. I have to agree with everyone, the grounds are beautiful and I loved all the decorations in and around the resort. The rooms are very nicely decorated. We were in building 2 which was very close to the food court. I couldn't help but compare this resort to the value resorts we've stayed at (AS Music, AS movies, Pop Century). The grounds and rooms are nicer (although the bathroom wasn't any bigger) The bus service wasn't as efficient due to having to stop at all the riverside stops as well, and I didn't like the food court at POFQ as well as all stars or pop century. All in all, I really enjoyed the French Quarter but I'm not sure I would pay a lot more to stay there than I usually pay at the All-stars. I did enjoy the boat ride to Downtown Disney a lot!

OK, I'll post this again. How long does it take to boat from POFQ to DTD? Also, how long is the wait for the boat?

Thank you magicmouse2.
Now I know if I just miss one, I can go to the pool bar or something for a bit...hehe.
