My Parents Gave US the World! A Poly Dream PTR - April 2012**UPDATE 4/10/12 pg 10**

Thanks, Dave!

How often are y'all going to the water parks? Have you researched them very well? This will be the first time we are going to BB and TL...trying to decide which one to go to first! And which one might be the best for young kids.

We are going to BOTH water parks, only because DD is a HUGE water baby and she does not like big thrill rides, so our time at the theme parks will be pretty easy going. (only 3-5 attractions/shows per park on our must-see lists) We plan on heading straight to Typhoon Lagoon on our arrival day and then going to Blizzard Beach later in the week.Of coarse, this could change if our flight comes in late and we are too tired upon arrival. (not sure about that though, since our flight is only 3 hours) If this happens, and we can't go on arrival day, then we are considering doing BOTH water parks in 1 day! :scared1: LOL!

As for research, Typhoon Lagoon has the water coasters, and a larger wave pool - worlds largest actually - and also has a place where you can swim with non-aggresive sharks. Blizzard Beach has such an awesome theme - has water toboggans and an amazing family-sized tube slide! Blizzard Beach has a smaller wave pool, so apparently it is safer/better for those with small kids. They both seem to have pros/cons, so us water-fanatics can't choose just 1, so we are doing BOTH! :thumbsup2

We're not planning on visiting the watermarks. We do have a Polyday and I have a cabana reserved so we'll be doing some swimming then! :thumbsup2

Charity, what time does your flight arrive in Orlando?

We have the water parks and more option, so we'll do both parks...just not sure which one will be the best. The first day we should get there at a decent hour. We're about an 8 hour drive, but plan to drive at least halfway Friday night (if we can get away at a decent hour hopefully longer). I think BB will be best for us...so my thought is going to TL Saturday ~ since we probably wouldn't be able to get there until noon or so. Then on our full water park day go to BB. We don't have a lot on our Epcot day, so me or DH might at least take my oldest to a water park.

Speaking of the Poly pool ~ I wish they would hurry up and start the reno if they are going to do it! I'm so paranoid that it is going to keep getting pushed back and end up being closed during our week. I'm sure I'm being really irrational...but I can't help it!! I am going to be really upset if the slide is closed ~ like change resorts upset!!!

Another option is to divide the MK into lands and do 2 each day to minimize some walking and backtracking. Here's what we're planning on for our 2 days in MK (of course it can and will change between now and April as I continue to refine and second-guess myself! :) )

MK Day 1: Fantasyland and Frontierland

- Peter Pan's Flight FASTPASS
- Dumbo the Flying Elephant
- New Great Goofini Roller Coaster.
- The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
- Mad Tea Party
- Splash Mountain FASTPASS
- Country Bear Jamboree
- Tom Sawyer Island
- Splash Mountain
- Lunch: The Crystal Palace
- Mickey's PhilharMagic
- Snow White's Scary Adventures (if it's still open)
- Prince Charming Regal Carrousel
- Peter Pan's Flight
- it's a small world
- The Haunted Mansion
- Jungle Cruise FASTPASS (just in case we come back to the park in the evening and want something to ride before the parade)
- take the WDW Railroad from Frontierland Station back to Main Entrance and exit the park for afternoon nap/swim back at Poly
- dinner at Poly or WL
- watch Wishes from beach at Poly or re-enter MK to watch parade and Wishes from park

MK Day 2: Tomorrowland and Adventureland

- Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin FASTPASS
- Tomorrowland Speedway
- Astro Orbiter
- see PUSH, The Talking Trashcan
- Stitch's Great Escape? (even though we've heard it can be scary our daughter loves Stitch and should be ok)
- Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin
- Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor
- Jungle Cruise FASTPASS
- The Pirate's League
- Lunch: Liberty Tree Tavern
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Captain Jack Sparrow's Pirate Tutorial
- Enchanted Tiki Room
- Frontierland Shootin' Arcade
- Swiss Family Treehouse
- Jungle Cruise
- exit the park for afternoon nap/swim back at Poly
- no specific evening plans this night

Wow! Now THAT is a busy couple of days! When I look at those 2 days, I certainly feel like mine are doable. I had no idea people planned to see so many attractions when their at DW! If you can do all of that - :worship: !!!! Can't wait to see how it turns our for you guys! :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2

Sounds like a good plan! I don't know why, but I love the ambiance of Tom Sawyer's Island. It's so relaxing and such a change of pace of the hustle and bustle just across the "river".

I think starting later on Friday is the way to go (Gasp, did I just tell someone not to make RD?? :lmao:). That's the beauty of having a second day at MK. You can take a more "see as we go" approach on the second bonus day. Friday is our second MK day too, and we were planning on starting later in the morning, but our DD made a request that she wanted to eat inside Cinderella's Castle. So I made an ADR at 8:05am before park opening at CRT. :goodvibes

I agree, a later start on Friday is a GREAT idea! :thumbsup2 It's our last night in DW, and we have a VERY relaxing day scheduled for Saturday (hint, hint) So we may just stay up a bit later on Friday night!!

Charity, what time does your flight arrive in Orlando?

We have a direct flight to Orlando. We arrive at 11:30 am (if our flight is on time of coarse) and the flight is only around around 3.5 hours. Not too bad. We also have a private shuttle taking us straight to the hotel.

We have the water parks and more option, so we'll do both parks...just not sure which one will be the best. The first day we should get there at a decent hour. We're about an 8 hour drive, but plan to drive at least halfway Friday night (if we can get away at a decent hour hopefully longer). LOL - We should just all go together! LOL! :lmao: And I agree about the Poly pool - it's making me a bit nervous that the renos aren't getting done yet. Fingers crossed they just get 'er done asap so we can enjoy that beautiful volcano pool in April! (If I'm right, they usually aim to reno pools/water slides etc during the cooler months as opposed to spring/summer when the pools are PACKED with people.

I am soooo excited to go back to Epcot World Showcase. This was my FAVORITE park when I went to DW as a teen! My DD is very excited to see this park as well. For those that have followed my PTR so far, you would know that I am still considering adding FutureWorld to my WorldShowcase day with a mid-day break at the hotel. (This is mostly to just give us a full Blizzard Beach day mid-week) If we DO do that, we may also switch our Epcot & Blizzard Beach days around. So do Epcot on Monday, and do Blizzard Beach today. We ALSO may try and - wait for it, wait for it - DO BOTH WATER PARKS IN ONE DAY!!!!!!!!!! :scared1: Mostly because we can and well, DD loves the waterslides, so if we have the energy - WHY NOT!?!?

Okay, okay, I digress ..... so sorry...... so, when we go to World Showcase, we have a few priorities they are:

1. Pick-a-Pearl in Japan

2. Paris for some imaginary sight-seeing (DD is in a french-immersion program at school, and she dreams of one day seeing the real Eiffel Tower in Paris)

3. Mexico (3 Cabelleros anyone?)

4. China

5. UK (DD has a relative that lives there and wants to learn)

and well - pretty much every other country and every shop there is! LOL!

Not sure where we'll eat our meals, we are planning on just eating & drinking as we go. Wander and explore and just soak it all in. :lovestruc We will do Pick-a-pearl first, as that is our REAL must-see when there. (I already ordered DD a Cinderella pearl cage off of a website, we just need the pearl!)
As I said, we are not sure yet if we will do an 11:00 am arrival and just tour til we are tired OR if we will do Future World in the morning, go back to the Poly for a mid-day break and then back to World Showcase for the evening. Any suggestions, as always, are appreciated!

Oh - and we have no plans to stay for Illuminations. With that being said - I have to say that I feel kind of bad because my trip plan is kind of all over the place. I plan on doing another quick-ish review of the week again at the end, so everyone can see what we have (tentatively) decided on.

Great news is, today I spent some time with my Mom and she really helped me with some planning. She is impressed with the planning I have done so-far, and she thinks it is realistic overall. We are not entirely sure where to squeeze DTD into our week yet, as we have heard it is a great idea to see it in the morning - but I have us at parks most, if not all mornings of the week. So, we may just have to do it on an evening and brave the crowds. :confused3 Anyways, that's it for now. Sorry this is all so confusing - who knew a PTR would be so willy-nilly?!?! Thank you all for your continued advice - I could just HUG you guys!!! :grouphug:

I like your original plan of Future World/BB for one day, and WS for this day. I think it breaks up the Epcot touring nicely because touring all of Epcot on one day is a LOT of walking. Plus, if you do FW and WS in one day with a hotel break, you may not have enough time to enjoy all the shops and sights at WS, although I do think you'll still have enough time to get your musts done.

I love all of the things you listed for your musts! :thumbsup2

Just a warning, heading to Japan first thing will most likely lead to a lot of extra walking and backtracking because unfortunately, Japan Pavillion is located smack in the middle of the circle of countries. WS is probably the most spread out of all the Disney Parks. One idea is the boats that go across the lake in WS. After entering the park you could catch one from the Showcase Plaza (it only goes to two countries, Germany and Morocco), and take the one going to Morocco which is the country next to Japan. After Japan, you just have to pick a direction, clockwise or counterclock wise and tour the countries. Based on your list of things to do, I would go clockwise and head to France next.

We are planning on trying out Kimpossible for the first time when touring WS. Heard mostly positive reviews about this and I think our DD5 and DS2 would get a kick out of this and make the country pavillions more interesting. Also some of the street/outdoor performers are very entertaining. And I LOVE eating our way around WS - so many QS snacks and food options! If your DD wants to talk to some of the CMs about their home countries, you can try visiting the Kidcot stations where they have "exchange CMs". All of them were extremely nice and easy to talk with for our DD.

Hey Dave - as always, thank you for the advice. :thumbsup2 I didn't realize you were travelling with 2 small kids! I always pictured you with your wife and TEENS for some reason. LOL!

You are going to have so much fun, you have a wonderful week planned too, by the sounds of things. I know I considered Kim Possible for Epcot, but our DD is not interested. She just wants to sight-see and shop! :cutie:

I think I will go with my original plan of doing FW/BB in one day, and then WS in another. As I said, those two Epcot days can be switched with one-another if the weather is rainy on BB day or whatever. We are flexible that way, and since WS is such a HUGE feature for us, I don't know if I want to wait til so late in the week. (Selfish, I know) :rolleyes1

I like the idea of taking the boat to Morocco and then doing Japan and the other pavilions in a clock-wise direction. I have a couple more questions for you - what time does WS close the pavilions at? And do you think it's realistic to say if DD is hot, cranky and tired that we can go back to the Poly for a rest later in the day and then go back to Epcot for some evening touring? Or is that just crazy-talk?!:confused3

I guess I never fully described my family. :goodvibes Yes, we have two young children, DD is 5 and DS is 2. I'm 37 and DW is 36. My father-in-law will also be traveling with us on our trip. We all are very much looking forward to Disney. This will be FIL's very first trip so we're very excited about showing the Disney-ropes to a first-timer. My wife keeps telling me that her father has NO idea what he's signed up for especially with me planning everything, and I'm also excited for our DS because he's now at an age where he can enjoy a lot more than he did last year.

I think it's certainly doable to take a Poly break from Epcot during the middle of the day using the monorail especially if you plan to stay in the park closer to Illuminations time. All of the shops/restuarants in the pavillion will be open until park closing time. So you could tour 11a-2p, break 2p-5p, then tour 5p-9p.

Do you guys all go every year? I think you regular-disers are so brave taking such young children to DW! :worship: I can barely take my 4 year old to the supermarket! :lmao: I think we may just consider the mid-day break on WS day. Just to get out of the hot afternoon sun and let my dad (who has a thyroid issue) have an afternoon nap.

Sometimes I wish we went every year ;)

We don't get to go every year. It just happened that we got to go last year with my parents and this year we decided to go with my father in law. After this upcoming trip, it'll be at least two years before we can think about going if not longer. As much as I love WDW, I agree with DW that there are a lot of other places to visit with the limited time offs and money we have. So next year, we're heading off to Yellowstone for our yearly vacation.

Oh, and I agree that there are a lot of brave DISers out there especially those parents who venture out to the parks solo with their kids! I take the kids out to museums or the zoo by myself on weekends when DW is working and I come home completely exhausted and thanking the people who invented family restrooms while cursing the people who forgot to install diaper change stations in the men's room! And that's only for three hours at a time. I can't even imagine what it's like to do that for 8 or more hours :worship:

I agree. You will really enjoy world showcase if you arrive at their opening time! It will be nice and quiet whereas if you do FW in am and rest and then come back WS will be a gong show by then :scared1:

Your plan will be much more relaxing and enjoyable :)

so good to see things falling into place for you. It's all looking great!!

Ahh, I see. Well, I certainly hope you and your family enjoy your lil slice of Paradise this April! (Poly) We are so excited to go, this will more than likely be a once-in-a-lifetime trip, so we are going all out. Not sure if/when we will return.

See, this is why I love having a PTR - getting the :thumbsup2 from you all makes me feel so much better about our plans! Thanks! :cool1:

So, we are on to our last 2 days of the trip already. (Where did the time go?!)

Day 7 - Magic Kingdom Day #2

We will have a late arrival (what is that in Disney-time, 10 am? :lmao:) Our plan is to start in Tomorrow Land and work our way counter-clockwise through the entire park, we will have done all of our must-sees on Wednesday, so this day is more of a bonus day in my mind. Our only MUST SEE this day is

1. Monsters Inc Laugh Floor

(Because we more than likely will have skipped over Tomorrow Land completely on our first Magic Kingdom day)

As usual, we have no confirmed plans for dinner yet, so I am thinking we may do Downtown Disney for some souvenir shopping & dinner (Wolfgang Puck Express probably)

Day 8 - Check-Out Day :sad1:

So for this day, because we have to check out at 11:00 am, but our flight doesn't leave until 8:20 pm, we went ahead and booked a FULL DAY CABANA!!!! We are sooo excited for this. We will just rest, relax, swim, eat, maybe explore and do some shopping at neighboring resorts or DTD. We really wanted to have the cabana to be our "home base" for the day, so I think this will be perfect! :cloud9:

Question for everyone - Since we have a private car taking us to the airport, and our flight is International, departing at 8:20 pm, what time would you suggest leaving the Poly at?

Charity, I think you have planned out a great week for your Disney trip!

After you try out the Laugh Floor, you and your DD may decide that you'll want to go again, and maybe again. It's one of those attractions that's different each time you go because there's a good deal of improv and audience interaction. We love it!

And what a great way to end your day by hanging out by the pool in a Cabana!
Not sure if you've looked into this, but they have airport/baggage check in counters at the resort for participating airlines. You can check your luggage and get your boarding passes at the resort in the morning after you check out of your room and skip that whole process at the airport which saves you a lot of time and hassle. Since you're heading to the airport on a Saturday evening you should have minimal traffic and the car trip itself should take you about 20 to 25 minutes.

That's an interesting tip about checking our bags while at the hotel! Who would have thought that was an option! Will be checking back in probably tonight or tomorrow to do a recap of our week!

Sounds like an awesome trip! I hope you all have fun!:goodvibes The cabanas are a great way to relax but people always try to walk in on your private space. Just a heads up they can be rude :sad2:
