My panic attacks are back

grinningghost- actually thinking back we think my Great grandmother suffered from the same thing, but back then there was no name for it. She actually ended up in a "mental" hospital, and my mother remembers her symptoms as the same as mine. Back then you were "crazy". Thank goodness they have a name for it now or we would all be in the psych (sp) ward!

What a fun mental ward it would be with all our DIS friends together! :D :D :D Those nurses sure would have their work cut out for them - trying to fill our requests for Dole Whips and Tonga Toast. ;)

does anyone else have "secret" panic attacks? Most of mine have been such that no one else knows anything is happening at the time. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced that.

Whenever I had one out in public, I never let anyone know. So far, only my mom, DH and I know about my panic attacks. I actually had one at my volunteer job once. I got really hot and started sweating profusely, so I took off my sweater (I had a turtleneck underneath). The guy I was working with was really looking at me funny, so I quickly fluffed it off and said "Just a hot flash". I really thought I was going to pass out, but I somehow made it through without telling him what was really going on.

At that time I didn't have my Xanax yet. Now, if I feel one coming on, I quickly take a half tab. I always carry a water bottle with me - so I don't dehydrate or "panic out". :D

I have "secret" panic attacks all the time! Outside I look normal, but inside, I'm feeling all those yucky anxiety symptoms. Sweaty, faint, dizzy, fast heart beat, sick to my stomach, etc. etc. etc.

My husband is really the only one who can kind of figure out if I'm having an attack. He'll say, "Mom's freaking out! Stop freaking out!" Instead of being cruel, it's actually funny when he says it, and helps bring me out of an attack.

Anxiety runs in my family -- both my parents, and further back. They diagnosed things differently then -- they were nervous, worry-warts, or "shy". I'm so glad there are so many resources for us now.

Though a ward filled with Tonga Toast doesn't sound so bad!

My attacks are always "secret" also. My husband and family know. Other than that just one close friend knows. On the outside people see happy ad cheerful, while inside I am feeling all sorts of anxiety.
HHHHHMmmmmmmmmm a ward with Tonga Toast, Dole Whips, and Casey's hot dogs for me!!!!

I don't think I show any signs at all.

In my public speaking class I used to get remarks like, "wow, I can't believe you don't get nervous." Me: I just aged 5 years in 10 minutes, and no one noticed?! So it might be a talent. :teeth:
