I've been watching a few ebay auctions for My Pal Mickey, I just don't want to spend $70 for a new one! Is he worth it? Please let me know pros and cons to having him! TIA :smooth:

We bought one for my GF's son (5 yrs. old) when we were at Saratoga Springs this past school break. We took him with us while we went to the Magic Kingdom. Personally, I didn't hear Mickey give any useful information while we were there and if we were in a noisy area of the park, we really couldn't hear what was being said anyway. However, GF's son loves his Pal Mickey and sleeps with him every night. (Sorry Scooby but you've been replaced). So to have him be so happy with his new friend is definitely worth it for us.

So I got caught up in the last minute bidding, and I won. Ebay is hypnotizing... :hyper: Total price: $62.25. Gee I saved a whole $7.75. But hey, that's like 3 Mickey Bars.... :woohoo:

I bought one when they first came out but I sold it on eBay :teeth: I liked it and thought it was cute, but it eventually just became another thing to lug around the parks. We don't have kids, so I could see how it might be better for kids to carry around or hold while they are in a stroller.

It did make some neat comments around the parks. One time we were walking through AK and he said to look at the birds to the right- there was a neat little exibit of scarlett ibis that we would have just walked right by otherwise. The jokes got old after awhile, but I can imagine kids would get a kick out of it.

I'm looking forward to purchasing my first Pal Mickey. I thought about buying it on EBAY but for the little I would save I was affraid of what I was really purchasing. I will gladly carry my Mickey for the 8 days of jockularty that he will surely give me.

Have a magical day,
Anna

PS that and my balloon Freakin' Yeah!

I'm in the same boat thinking 70 dollars is a bit much...our 2 kids are 11 and 6, and I think PAL mickey will be great at the parks, but they are both starting to outgrow the stuffed animal thing.

So my plan is to buy one at the park and put it on E-bay once we are home, If my plan works it will be a very inexpensive "rental" of it.

I just need to make sure the kids know he's just "on Loan".

My DS (7) got one when he was 3 and he absolutely loves it. Everytime we get ready for a Disney trip you can't pry him away from till months after the trip is over. It does get kind of hard to hear sometimes, but I thought it was a really good investment. We'll waste $70 on T-shirts and knik-knacks for In-Laws I could do without. I'd rather hang around with My Pal Mickey for Thanksgiving and Christmas anyway!

Good Investment!

We bought our Pal Mickey 4 trips ago. He comes with us every trip but honestly, after the first day or 2 with him DD4 or DS8 rarely listen to him. There are just too many other distractions. He is a bit uncomfortable to wear. He falls off his belt clip and his lanyard is like a complicated puzzle when it unhooks. He always ends up in my purse. I am happy to have him. He does a lot of fun things and has lots of info but, we are always too busy to use him at WDW!

The only thing to beware of on E-Bay is that many people are selling the old Pal Mickey which they bought on a Disney Store closeout for only $12.99.

Many people complain about the old one because he is hard to hear.

The new Pal Mickey is the one wearing a Tuxedo. Make sure you get that one.
The New Pal Mickey is Louder, gets park updates for newer attractions such as Expedition Everest, Soaring that the Old Pal Mickey can't get and the new one includes a carrying Lanyard.

We bought ours in '03, and we like him. We even brought him down to Disneyland last year (though not in the parks).

The jokes are corny, but I like 'em. Most of the info is not all that "useful", but its still something else to listen to or do, especially when waiting in lines.

I'm not sure about $70 though. I don't remember what we paid, but it wasn't that much.

QUESTION: I think we lost the belt clip... can we pick up a new clip in the stores that sell the Pal Mickey? Thanks...

Added in Edit: We have the "old" version.

I think he's worth it, my bf and I loved him! He did also give us useful info, for example there was a short line on Buzz Lightyear or Pooh Bear, he would also tell us that him and his friends would be out by the castle in however many minutes and some things like that. he told us some facts about rides and areas of the park which we liked and his lame jokes were cute. i think he was worth it.

PS: the lanyard and the belt clip both didnt really work in my experience. i carried him. Also I agree that you should get the newest verson b/c it updates.

I bought two for our trip as bday presents for our boys going (turning 11)....both of them thought Pal Mickey was totally dorky and refused to carry him around ANYWHERE.
DD (age 6) thought Pal Mickey was really cute and wanted to take him to the parks...but with her tiny size, PM was too big for her to clip on, so MOMMY got to carry the darn mouse around.

I started thinking PM was a new drinking game...take a shot every time he says "Oh gosh, golly, gee."

We actually heard what he had to say about an event, ride, whatever, maybe 5 times in a week of carrying him around.

That would have made the day much more interesting! :cool1:

I bought one when I was there last month. I'm not sure if it was the noise in the park or he just wasn't working correctly, but I hardly heard him say anything other than the jokes, games and the "oh gosh, golly, gee". I was starting to think it was defective, but it did give information about lines at one of the attractions in Epcot, but only one. I'm still not sure how I feel about having spent that much money for it. I will be going again in three weeks. I'll see how it works then before making a final decision. :confused3

Crap. The one I won is tuxedo-less. He's really the old one? :badpc:

I'll have to relist him, take my loss and get a new one. :rolleyes1

Me and my DS5 love ours. I tried to leave him home last trip, but someone (I wonder who) snuck him into my carry on bag. That was a surprise when I looked in my bag at the airport. We love having in the parks, we don't always take him each day. Also check out the new outfits they have for sale at WDW, the raingear outfit is so cute! There are 4 outfits so far, I believe. He is a little pricey, I think $50 would have been plenty, but hey I still bought him, so I guess the marketing folk know what they are doing.
