My new Puppy is driving me crazy!!

Remy had a poochy belly too as a pup and he almost looked barrel chested. But as he grew, his proportions changed. I would still see the vet for a check up to rule out any problems. Remy also was clumsy as a pup too, but he's actually pretty clumsy still now. He's best in wide open areas. He also doesn't do well on slick surfaces like laminate floors, ice, etc. Maybe because he's always trying to get where he's going as fast as possible. Brittany's always seem to be in a hurry... :rotfl:

LOL..yep laminate flooring becomes one of those cartoon moments with legs moving really quickly..and no progress being made...you have it to a tee..wide open areas are the best....hes pretty good in the woods too with streams and rocks and hills and things......slick surfaces however are a source of amusement for the whole family....( and sometimes an indicator that I need to trim his nails :) )

We had a Brittany just like yours . . .Her AKC name was Little Lady Shea and she was the cutest thing, but WILD!! I think it is in their breed to be hyper like that . . .she was from hunting stock, so she was constantly on the run and earned her nickname of "crazy legs". She was too much to handle and my in-laws adopted her in 1994. She just passed away this month from cancer, but she lived a long, wonderful life with the in-laws and was able to have the running room she needed.

I do have to say that she was smart and loved her crate, she didn't want to be anywhere else but the crate when it was indoor time. I think that we jumped to having a puppy and didn't read much about the breed. I am glad that I had my in-laws to take her in.

I wish you the best of luck and maybe consider dog obidience school.

well I decided NOT to take Britney to this new vet to just pick up a rabies tag!!! I talked to me regular vet the other day and she said that's not right, I should just be able to take the tag, if she already has her shot!!! But this place is telling me we have to go there and she needs an appointment, THEn i can get her tag.
So I had to make a new appointment for Britney at MY vet, so now I take her on Friday. I feel much better about that!!
My Golden, ughh I feel so bad for her. All Britney does is nip at her, I know she's just playing/teething, but poor Golden!! She's so tired of it!!!
Pumpkin wound up having a little blood in her stool actually and I was scared that Britney gave her something!!! But it's negative for parasites, the vet thinks it's a combination of her being in a kennel when we were on vacation 2 weeks ago and also the stress of the new puppy. Sh said she may have a small case of colitis :( Poor pumpkin!

Keep us posted. And certainly don't worry about the belly or the back end. Sounds like she is an active, healthy puppy. The vet you are comfortable with should be able to give you all your answers.

Let Pumpkin and Britney sort things out. Believe me, if it gets too much for the Golden, she will let the puppy know. But unless blood is being drawn, they need to establish their own pack order and rules about each other.

I tried to read all of this thread, but if I repeat others' suggestions, I apologize.

"A Good Puppy is a Tired Puppy"
These words are golden!

Also, since it's so hot out, does she like water? Many of our friends buy the little plastic baby pools for their dogs to play in. Makes for a great game, and a great "tired puppy"

We fostered a 9 week old Great Pyrenees for three weeks just recently, and after we got rid of the worms he too, became feisty and zoomed around the house... tortured my poor old dogs, but our youngest, Holly, wrestled with him until they both dropped. The puppy got adopted last week, and even though it was a busy household with four dogs, I do miss his energy!

Keep up the good work and keep that puppy tuckered out!:)

Thats what DH says.. Let them sort it out... But it looks like they are going to get hurt! I just feel bad for my Pumpkin, after the fight they are both all slobbery ;)

I bought a plastic pool from Target, she loves it!! I dont think the pup has worms.. I think I'm just being paraniod! I cant wait til she goes to the vet! Then I can start giving her Heartguard. They say not to do it until she gets tested cause if a dog already has heartworms, giving heartworm medication can kill them. She's already on frontline plus which apparently kills fleas, ticks and worms...
I'm glad the pup you fostered got adopted :)

A puppy should NEVER be allowed to be "top dog"....they are too young.

You need to step in and correct the puppy. While it is "puppy playing" it is really "fighting for dominance".
The puppy is telling your Golden that there is a new boss in town and she is going for it.

So keep an eye out and do not hesitate to step in and correct if it is out of hand. Remember your Golden is counting on YOU to protect her.

Do small things to reinforce that the puppy is on the lowest rung. Feed the golden first, while the puppy is in a down/stay. Use a leash if you have to.
A dog knows what it means to eat last. Your golden will get the message as well.

Have the pup always go last out of any door, whether human or dog. That is the other biggie.

HUGS to your pups....

I adopted a stray in April (Choppy) who is heartworm positive. I was told to keep giving him the heartguard (he'd been started on it at a foster home). We are in the midst of heartworm treatment (big shots - 2 out of 3 done) and he still gets the Heartguard.

I don't understand it as everything says not to give it to a positive dog. But my vet is very, very good - top rated in the state and region. So I'm doing what she says. There have been no repercussions from the treatment at all.

Choppy gets one more treatment on Wednesday and then should be heartworm free. I do think he had a very, very light early infection. Each shot is $125 which is not cheap but is a lot less than I thought it was going to be. I'd seen estimates online that were more in the $800 range to treat heartworm.

I just brought my pup to the vet yesterday. She's HEALTHY! YAY!
Anyway, I had to vet check her hips and he said they are week, but probably cause of being caged for so long. When she gets fixed next month, they are going to do an x-ray.
Everything else is fine... I still feel horrible about the fact that her parents are probably still caged in Missouri pumping out more pups :( ughhh That really should be illegal. All the things that happens to animal and people go to jail for it, why should puppy mills be any different.... They should just shut them all down.
