Earlier this year, the two young, small television networks, UPN and WB, decided that they just couldn't continue to make a go at it; it just wasn't profitable enough to be the "fifth and sixth" network. So they decided to cease operations in early September, and at that time, combine their resources in a new network, CW. The best shows from each of the previous networks would be featured on the new network. That seemed like basic logic to me: X doesn't have enough "good"; Y doesn't have enough "good"; X+Y would be more likely to have enough "good".
The loser in this apparently was News Corporation, who apparently owned a lot of the UPN and WB affiliates that were not invited to carry the CW network. (UPN and WB were, of course, on separate channels in most of the country, and only one of them will get to carry CW.) So News Corporation (which also owns the Fox networks) has decided to create yet another, new, sixth network. It will show, exclusively, "telenovelas" -- 13 week, five-night-a-week soaps.
What do folks think about these changes? Is anyone "excited" to check out the new programming from My Network TV?
