Ok, I've just about had it with the neighbor down the street! His dog has gotten underneath my fence in the back yard several times now! That's not the problem . . .dogs will be dogs . . .the problem is his owner!

I have 3 rabbits in cages in back. They are off the ground in hutches . . .That dog gets in my backyard and tries to bite them.

We were sitting here watching a movie and 10 p.m. I hear this dog awfully close barking his fool head off . . .My dog starts pacing back and forth . . .I open up the back light and there's that darn dog again . . .underneath the rabbit hutches barking like a mad man. Needless to say, I didn't let my dog out, because she would of ripped that dog to pieces . . .Soooooooooo after shutting my dog up in the bedroom I proceed to go outside with a flashlight and get the dog out from underneath the hutches.

Dog was THICK!! Wouldn't budge . . .I swear to god it took all my energy not to hit the darn thing . . .I opened up the back gate and was trying to get it to leave . . .Finally my DH came outside (god knows where he was) and the dog took off, just as my idiot neighbor was coming around the back of my house.

I was screaming at him at the top of my lungs . . .I said things I didn't even think I could ever say . . .Basically I told him if that dog ever got into my yard again and got himself a rabbit I would see to it that the dog was put down by either me or by the animal control officer. There were several swear words in between that I will not repeat . . .I was shaking I was so mad.

Thanks for letting me vent.

get the long post police, just because you state its a long post doesnt make it legal ;)

Vent all you want, that would make me furious.

I had a bunny die from fright because of a dog. Another bunny was killed by the dog tearing apart it's hutch. We have an invisible fence for our lab, your neighbor's dog should NOT be in your yard. Just wondering what he had to say about the whole situation?

It would make me mad too, but being the animal lover I am...I agree dogs will be dogs and if the neighbor can't care for the dog and keep him away from your yard then the dog needs a family who will.

Our next door neighbors have rabbits, geese, chickens, ducks etc. all in coops and cages outside. Our neighbor across the street has 2 huge dogs in the backyard that kept getting out and actually killed a few of the neighbors chickens. I believe she called the authoritis and was told that she had one chance or the dog would be taken to the pound. I feel so sorry for dogs like that, thats why my babies stay inside unless I take them out.

I would be furious too! If it happens again, I would call Animal Control, with the dog still in the backyard, and make sure the owner is issued a citation. If it is documented, there should be some pretty hefty fines if it continues. I also have dogs and a fence. As responsible dog owners, there is nothing worse than people who do not follow the laws.

This is one of my biggest pet pieves.
Dogs should not be running loose! Period!

Ok, I think I am confused. You have a fence, but the dog got under it, that part I got. The owner was coming to get the dog. Is the dog allowed to wander around all over the neighborhood? Have you spoken to your neighbor about this problem? He might be as frustrated as you by this problem. Talk to him and see if two heads are better then one. Get the hose and spray the dog, a couple of times getting hosed might be all he needs to train him to stay away.

I have 3 rabbits in off the ground hutches out back too! So the dog is running loose frequently I assume...... first.... and I'm not saying it's your fault.... but fix the fence so the dog can't crawl under it. My dh put come cinder blocks by the low spots under our fence. Other than that follow up with what you said- you see the dog loose again (not necessarily in your yard) call animal control.

I also lost a rabbit to a dog who ripped apart the cage. :( Call the Animal Control Officer.

The owner should be completely responsible for making sure his dog doesn't get under the fence. I'd tell him that that's what you expect and that you will be calling animal control if it happens again. I love dogs, but I love bunnies too. Your rabbits are in a cage that should keep them safe, so it's his responsibility to see that his dog doesn't hurt them.
