She is about 2.5 mos old now and will be almost 4 mos when we go. She has acid reflux and takes Alimentum (sp?) formula for sensitive tummies. ;)

My Sis and I are trying to figure out how to keep the formula cold in the parks. She has a little cooler but not sure how long the blue ice packs will last. I guess her stuff is in liquid only ( i guess the powder has corn in which they try to avoid??)

I am sure there are other people who deal with formula issues in the parks and we would love to hear how you deal with things. We are staying at the CBR and they have fridge's in the room and they have the coffee maker to make the warm water....and the pack/play.

oh...we will stop at Publix for some things....does anyone know if they carry Similac Alimentum??? we may have to pack it in the suitcase. thankx

We have been to WDW 13 times but this is the first time with a baby....so going to be interesting. :goodvibes

I don't know for sure, but I wonder if you would be able to store it at the First Aid/Baby Care Centers in the parks? It would not be convenient for a quick feeding, but it may be something to look into.

My daughter was on alimentum last time we were there. During the day at the parks we used the individual cans of formula that we bought at babiesrus. They had 6 individual -- 8oz cans in one pack for 15$ they were liquid.

Otherwise get a fridge for your room and use the regular bottles while around there

i had no problems while we were there. It was easy with the cans on the plane too.

Also, there are tons of stores around there most drug stores/walmart/ food stores would carry alimentum its not a prescription only formula

have fun

do the cans have to be kept cold? I don't know these things.

we were thinking if she eats at 7:30 am and needs to eat again at 11:30ish....and we go to the parks at 8am then the formula sits in the cooler bags for 3-4 hrs....will it stay cold enough?

hopefull the little fridge's in the room have a freezer part for the blue packs.

we need a plan of attack. ;)

My son was on a similar formula - Nutramigen. It's made by Enfamil, so I called them and had a couple of cases of nursette bottles (ready to feed/single serving) shipped directly to the reosrt. These bottles do not have to be kept cold.

You might be able to do the same with Similac.

I don't know if it is possible, and if your sister has maybe already tried, but my daughter was on this type of formula, and for her (my daughter's) specific problem EITHER Aliementum or Nutramigen was appropriate. Nutramigen was avail. in powder form as someone has already said. I know it is a pain to switch formula, but if she needs to be on it for a full year, this issue will come up other times too, like trips to the mall etc. I had a package of plastic bags that I bought at Babies r us that were shaped to fit into the neck of a bottle, and I filled with the appropriate amt of powder. I carried a few in my diaper bag, and brought bottles of nursery water, (room temp) and one or two bottles. I just washed at the baby center if needed. This also eliminated the need to chill, as the powder dissolves better in warmer water.

One thing to consider if you need to do the chilled route, is to bring ziploc baggies, and fill with ice at the machines in the hallways. I think you could keep it pretty cold in a cooler for a good long time. You could ask for ice at a quick service if you need a refill.

Best of luck, and have a great trip.

My boys were on Alimentum when they were little, and I was unaware that there was difference between the ready to feed and the powdered kind. When we traveled, we'd pre-measure the powder in a "shaker bottle" and then bring bottled water to mix when we needed it. No need for refrigeration. But if she truly can't have the powdered kind, there are nursettes available (the little bitty individual sized servings of ready to feed formula.) They may be hard to find, so I'd recommend calling Similac and asking where to find them, or if you can have them ship some to you.

Edited to add- I just found that you can buy the individual RTF bottles online http://www.abbottstore.com/browse/s...llcorrect=1&datasource=anstoreae&setpagenum=9

It's expensive, but I'm sure they already know that!

No advice - my kids weren't on formula when they started coming to the parks.

My sympathy though - dd was on Alimentum for 13 months and the cost was astronomical! I couldn't believe that insurance wouldn't cover it since she was allergic to both milk and soy!

Wow - I'm shocked that your insurance wouldn't cover it! DS was on Nutramigen for 13 mos and my insurance covered it for 12 mos. However, they wouldn't cover it once he turned one.

laughinplace- wow, that's amazing that the insurance paid for the formula! I've never heard of that! I wish ours would have.... after having TWO babies on it, I was SOOO glad when at least one of them got off of it! :scared1: Boy, those were big grocery bills.

I replied earlier, mentioning that I had used the Nutramigen powder while at Disney. What I didn't mention was that for the first 6 mos of her life, she needed EleCare, only avail online, to the tune of thousands of dollars, to feed an INFANT! I was happy to pay Nutramigen prices at that point!:rotfl2:

Both of my daughters had a protein allergy. Hopefully the op's niece's reflux clears up soon.

We used Alimentum with one of our boys. And thank goodness insurance covered becasue we went into shock when we had to buy it while waiting for coverage to begin. We simply used powder, measured out into those formula dispensers, and brought bottled, room temperature water with us to make each bottle. No worries about keeping it cold or having it go bad.

Let me try, my dd's were on Nutramigen but it did come in powder which helps.

As far as keeping it cold in the parks - personally I wouldn't. When we were on the go I used the nursettes. Until you open them they are ok at room temp and that's how I fed my dd's. FWIW I never heated up the formula unless it was cold and then I would just bring it to room temp.

We once did a trip to bermuda and I shipped the nursettes to the room ahead of time. You could do the same to FL I am sure - this was several years ago and I was able to do it right from the website.

I don't know if publix will carry what you need - a phone call would solve that question though. I have also used a grocery delivery service, wegoshop.com and they have been excellent. Just let them know what you want and they will find it at the lowest price they can.

Finally the fridge in the room will be a dorm type and most of them don't have a freezer section. If you put your ice packs in a ziplock with your name and room number clearly marked - (sharpie is ideal) the quick serve restaruant will usually freeze them for you. It's kind of a pain to drop them off and retreive them but your alternative is ice from the ice maker. This is why I always used powder with room temp water or room temp formula.

Don't worry, you will figure it out-

Be sure to check allearsnet.com for her section on travlieng with baby - imho its a must read when traveling with an infant.

Wow, I'm surprised that your insurance wouldn't pay for it since it's medically necessary. My ped just wrote out a prescription for it (he even prescribed the ready to feed cans to make things easier for me) and once a month I'd go to CVS and pick up 30 cans.

I can't imagine having to pay for all of that formula for one baby, never mind two! Are they both off of it now?
