My Mum died late Friday night after a long illness. It has been hard but my part time work has made things harder. In Ontario the Labour Board says there is no madatory bearevement leave, it is left up to each company. Most of the companys will give you about 3 days off for a close relative. My son is getting 4 days off. My work has said no time off at all. I am lucky that I have a regular day off the day of the funeral. I will be able to get to the visitation because it is after work. They said that I could take it off if I take it as a unpaid day off. As my dh's work has cut his pay we really can't afford to be without my pay, even if it isn't a lot. I do so much for this company, going over what I am to do and putting in extra time to make sure things are done. At this point I will only be doing what I need to do, nothing else. I also think that I will be looking for something else. Too bad because I really like the work I do and the clients, but the bosses are in need of reality checks.

I am so very sorry on the loss of your Mum. Hugs to you and your family.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Your bosses are heartless

I'm so sorry.

It's rotten that your company is acting like this.

I am so sorry for your loss. :grouphug:

My dh's mother passed away on 12/17. He was allowed 4 days off work, though that counted weekends. It's lousy that your employer will not grant you a funeral leave.

 I'm sorry for your loss. I can't believe your bosses won't give you time off. That's just really cold and heartless.

Thanks everyone. I am just really upset right now. My boss has said that she feels for me and that she would come in and work for me (she "works" from home) but no pay. A lot of "nice" talk but the backup doesn't add up.

WOw - that's terrible. Crappy, crappy bosses (and company rules)

Im so very sorry for your loss. I lost my mom in January of 2006. It's a terrible feeling.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Prayers for you and your family.

So sorry to hear about your mum, big Koala cuddles to you and your family.

I have never heard of a company treating someone like this, it is sad and shocking when people forget to have compassion. When my father died both mine and my husband's employers just said "go and take whatever time you need". I'm sorry that you have been treated like this at this sad time.

Thinking of you.

Trish

sorry for your loss :grouphug:

and sorry that you are having to deal with the loss of your MOM and your boss being a complete insensitive nitwit.

may you find peace with your loss very soon.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I think your employer is heartless.

My mom died unexpectedly the day after Christmas but we had no issues with anyone's employer. That would have made everything extra hard.

I'll keep you in my thoughts. If you were as close to your mum as I was to mine it will leave a huge hole in your world.

I am so sorry for your loss. I think I'd be looking for a new job too. I hope you find something you like equally well, with owners/bosses that have a little more compassion.

I'm so sorry about your Mom, and hope you can cope with those mean bosses. Evidently they've never had a loss like this....
