My son, who is 19, just showed me an ad that had the cologne set my in-laws gave him for his birthday......that was FREE with a $40 purchase!!! I REALLY can't stand these people!

I know how you feel! My inlaws either don't give birthday or Christmas presents or when they have, they were used! Our girls (4 year old and almost 2 year old) got 3 used books for Christmas two year ago and nothing last year. What I don't understand is that they make more money than we do and these are their only grandkids! Plus, they have ME make all their travel plans(air, car rental) on the computer for them and are always talking about where they are going next. Never to WDW though. They are probably afraid they would end up paying a few cents for us by mistake!

I know how you feel. My Mil told my almost 3 yr. old ds to shuupt up because he was saying hi to Winnie the Pooh on the tv.

My ex inlaw were like that....I am sorry. It really stinks because of the kids. Hey one year for my birthday I got the top half of pj's. I thought I would get the bottoms but never did....lol

I was once given the bottom sheet and told in which store I could purchase the matching top sheet.

Makes a perfect format for teaching children the value of relationships instead of "things" I suppose.

Keep the cologne and give it to your fil for his bday or a Christmas present.;) Pour out about 1/2 of it first though.;)

I think I need to kick your Mil's butt.

I'm assuming that they could afford something more expensive for him??? If so, that's nuts.

I just don't understand people like this :( If I ever have grandchildren of my own I will spoil them terribly. My dil will probably be on here complaining that I buy too much stuff

Boy, my mil is nowhere near this bad. I feel better thanks. :)

:p

I am sorry you and your children have to have someone like this in your lives.

Oh no, how cheap! I like Browneyes idea of "returning the favor".

I'm with Nativetexan...when I have grandkids, they are gonna be spoiled rotten;)

I'd be too worried that someone might see the ad to give a present like that. I also wouldn't give a really cheap gift in case the recipient shopped at the same store.

This thread just reminded me of a Christmas a few years ago. My DH once receive a gift from his cousin that we had given him the previous year! It was even in the same box! Talk about Tacky!

I have had my share of "cheesy gifts". My MIL was a teacher and I usually ended up receiving many of the gifts that were given to her that she didn't like. One year, she received a Caboodles makeup organizer as a gift from an exchange. She even showed it to me and couldn't understand why someone would give that to her. Well, guess what she gave me for Christmas? That's right, the Caboodles makeup thing!!! Another year, she was given a red wallet. Well, guess what I got that Christmas?

I guess it's better than nothing. Then again, I could be wrong.

My SIL has asked my DH (her brother) in the past to buy presents for our 3 kids and tell them they are from her. She isn't broke, she just doesn't want to do it but feels that she should. In fact, I posted about this some time ago. She always promises that she will send the money, but never has. That's not happening again!

Wasn't there a poster that received toilet paper as a gift from her MIL? Does anyone remember that?:teeth: :teeth:
