DEPARTURE DAY (December 6th)
I had been waiting for this day for months and months. We were finally about to embark on our very first family vacation EVER! Yes that is right, our first real vacation as a family! As I mentioned in our pre-trip report (
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1250765), this was to be a wonderful celebration. Something so special and magical for our little one…something I had wanted to do since the day we brought her home. It was finally happening and I was boiling over with emotion and excitement.
The night before we left, as I tucked my sweet little one into bed, I could see a little sparkle in her eye. Surely she was excited but could she really possibly know what was to come. We had been talking about Walt Disney World for what seemed like forever. I explained to her all about the characters she would be seeing and the rides she would be experiencing. We watched our Disney vacation video over and over again. Yes…surely she understood! I had ingrained in her little mind that we were going to the happiest place on earth. How could she not be excited??
With all the anticipation, I had difficulties falling asleep that “Disney-Eve”, but in the morning my eyes flashed open before the alarm buzzed. I was ready to go and not a bit too tired. The bags packed, our little one dressed and we were on our way to the airport.
(SIDE NOTE)
Now I think I may need to explain a little something here about my DH. Unlike me, he is not a planner. All those late nights as I sat reading from the DISboards, hour after hour, he would just roll his eyes and give me this quirky little smile. Desperately I tried to get him involved in the planning….but deep down I knew he would not want anything to do with it. Then it happened. Then I heard what I had been hoping for all along. “
I’ll be okay with whatever you plan, honey”. OMG! OMG! OMG! Not only were we going to Disney but I also got to plan it all. Now one must realize that this type of comment from a husband usually is forgotten by said husband at a later date. (At least my DH…haha) Therefore, I felt that it was important to emphasize that he could NOT complain once we were at WDW or try to change the plans, you know the ones that he did not really want to be bothered with from the start. This will be important information for later on in my TR.
BACK TO DEPARTURE DAY (December 6th)
After arriving at the airport and checking our bags, we grabbed some quick breakfast and waited to board our flight to Orlando. Our little one, carrying her big Donald Duck stuffed animal, trotted along, skipping every so often, asking when we would get there. Yes, she was excited all right. DH and I could not stop from grinning. I took out the video camera and recorded some precious memories…yes, right there at the airport. The funniest thing came out of her little mouth. At one point when I asked her where we were going, she blurted out, “
to the Doom Buggies”! She loves Halloween and ever since she saw the “Doom Buggies” on the vacation video she has told me she wants to go on that and see all the ghosts. Then she said, “
don’t worry Mom, they’re just pretend ghosts. It’s okay”. Aw, what a cutie. She remembered everything I told her.
She was so good on the plane ride there. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to say that same thing about the return flight. Guess little ones can go into Disney withdrawals too! Haha. Anyway, she had a blast on the plane and kept herself pretty occupied with the headset and some books and crayons. Here are a couple pictures of the little one on our flight to Walt Disney World.
Notice the beloved Donald Duck right next to her.
She loved putting those headphones on and off again, didn't matter if there was any sound or not.
Up next....the adventure begins at the Walt Disney World Dolphin!
