Went to Thanksgiving dinner at my inlaws today. Drove two hours to get there and smiled the whole time as I tried to prepare my "assignment" for the meal in an unfamiliar kitchen. Got it done... but then the worst was to come. After the meal, we sat around in the living room visiting - when MIL starts in on me...... "You aren't still going to Florida in December are you?" (I am cringing as I reply - "why yes I am.. in fact I leave this coming weekend") "So this is for work then?" ("no" I answer, " I am going for fun") "But you are by yourself?!" ("no" I answer, I am meeting a very large group of people who I regularly visit with on a Disney website").

You would have thought I was planning to meet Jack the Ripper from the look and response I got from her! LOL!

Never mind the fact that I travel by myself for work all the time... the very idea of doing it for pleasure had her completely confused and unsettled.

Well my MIL may not approve... but I'm on my way to DIS CON in two days - and I can't wait! :bounce: :Pinkbounc

I know how you feel, DD! I find myself feeling very defensive when I try to explain I'm going to WDW without my family, to see my online friends.

And my DD just doesn't understand it at all....she thinks it should be illegal for grownups to go to WDW without their kids!

Have tons of fun, just to spite her. lol :teeth:

Laura, my in-laws don't get it either. They also think I am terrible for leaving their son for 8 days  Just go and have a great time and I will be seeing you in a few days :teeth:

DD, my mil disapproves too, I just got off the phone with her :(

Oh well.......such is life. I plan to have a ball and I can't wait to meet you :)

:teeth: I plan to THOROUGHLY enjoy myself!

I guess it is just an alien concept - especially for those that "don't get WDW", and don't spend time online. There is a community here - as real as the community where I work and my DD attends school. Just something she can't grasp.

I just hate being subjected to that kind of stuff. I already feel guilty about the fact my family is not going this trip... don't need any help in that department.

However, I need a dose of Disney right now... so off I go. :teeth:

I've had to deal with inlaw problems for years; I've become somewhat inured to it now. I keep telling myself that I need to remember all of the catty comments and go out of my way to treat my DS's future spouse with kindness and acceptance.

You have MY blessing, DD! Say "hi" to all the DISCON riddlers for me and tell OK we are keeping his riddle seat warm!:p

My inlaws don't understand when we ALL go as a family! They think we go too much and DH is almost scared to tell them we are going again in late spring:p ! And we are only 4 hours away!
Go and enjoy! Wish I was going now!

Dixie have a wonderful vacation.

Have a wonderful trip DblD!!! I'm sure that your DH and DD understand, and that's all that matters. Give Bernie a hug for me when you see him, and say "hi" to all the other riddle buds there! We'll miss all of you next week, but we'll be there in spirit!

I plan to hug everyone LOTS! (I'm a bit of a hugger). Hopefully we will have a few pics to share upon our return as well. I am not taking a pc with me... too worried about keeping it secure and don't want to drag it around with me on the long flight... so the pic posts and updates will either come from others while we are there... (like Dan!) or have to wait for my return. :)

Oh, Dixie, don't worry about it! They'll get over it and maybe in time (like every year around this time....) they'll get used to it! LOL LOL LOL

I've always taken vacations w/o DH. I always had more vacation time than him. This is the first time in many years (since I'm now unemployed), that I am doing so.

And boy, I'm starting to get the guilts. :teeth:

Can you tell??? :p

You can hug me. I don't mind. :)

As a matter of fact, if you'd like to hug me on behalf of those left behind, that's okay too! :teeth:

And one for Gina from me too!!!

I am not going to DIScon but Oldkicker is my buddy. I have given him my phone number so he can call me. My 2 teenagers are all over me about given out my phone number to a stranger I met on the web. It is hard to explain that it is ok for me to do but not for them.

As long as your DH doesn't have a problem with it, I wouldn't worry about what his mother thinks!

DD, your MIL must be hanging out with the group of mothers at my dd's school!
I told my mother where I was going and alone , and all she said was, good for you! she knows I pull more than my fair share in this house!!
I will see you there too and we will have a GRAND time!!

The heck with what your MIL thinks! You have a stressful job and NEED some time at WDW!!! Have a great time Laura - I'm expecting a full report when you get home! LOL :D

I'm ready to start packing for our MAGICal cruise and it's still months away!
