My MDE experiences this week

Just got back from a great trip this week. It was our first with MDE and our first summer trip, and we had a great time! I was not looking forward to the new Fastpass+ and while I do not like it as much as FP- it does have some positives.

Positives: Not having to send a runner. This really did help the trip seem calmer as we all spent more time together.

Being able to arrange the times so we could do rides in one area of the park back to back. Again, this kept us together and led to less criss-crossing back and forth.

Negatives: We are new AP holders and stay offsite, so only being able to book at 30 days was very frustrating. Our only chance at 7DMT was to get to rope drop early, which we did - and the crush walking down main street is not something I would like to repeat - although the ride was fun!

We tried to book a fourth fast pass at the kiosk's in the corner of guest relations (I was there for a lost and found issue) - but I couldn't get it to work - a CM came up and told me I had to go to the kiosk's in one of the lands to get help. So we trekked all the way to a land and it still didn't work there and the CM told me I had to go back to guest relations to get my cards fixed, because they showed that I had never used them for fastpasses and they had to be activated? This didn't make sense as we had used them all week. When I went back to guest relations the wait was 45 minutes, I actually stayed in line to check on our lost item again, and the CM there was very nice and she got them to do fastpasses, but of course had no idea why there was any problem to begin with. grrr - lots of extra walking and wasted time.

Our other issue was with admission. For the first half of the week everything was great. But then every time my 10 year old tried to enter, he got the blue circle. The first ipad CM to help him, actually was snippy that my 10 yr old didn't have ID?!?! And complained that he wasn't using the same finger, which I know he was cuz I'm anal about things like that. Next morning at Epcot it happened again, and as we are rope drop people to deal the the annoying tier's at Epcot, it delayed us for almost 10 minutes. (the family directly in front us got blue circles too - so we had to wait for them). The CM who helped said it happens all the time with kids because their fingers are to small for the readers, so he told DS to use his thumb. Ok, by the time we got to Test Track the wait was over 30 minutes, certainly not a deal breaker, but annoying since we had gotten to the park an hour early to be at the front of rope drop. And of course, next day DS still got the blue circle.

Overall though, it was a great trip - things with MDE went better then I thought - although the app does seem to go down quite a bit. The CM's we met were almost always great, a couple really went out of their way to be extra nice. We had a good time and I think the FP+ thing can turn out to be ok, if Disney could just get rid of all the glitches.
