My Magical Journey to Running the Half Marathon TR Link! p.107

I'm happy to say I DID do my workout this morning. Squats, jacknives, lunges & all! It's so easy to make excuses. I skipped Sunday because I couldn't walk after my workout Saturday. I skipped Monday & Tuesday because I've been fighting a cold. I'm glad you inspired me to get back at it today. My goal is to workout 2-3 times during the week. Plus once or twice on the weekend.

Don't you love the boxing? How about the balance games - I'm so bad at those. It took me 50 tries, but I finally made it down the river in my bubble this weekend. :cool1: Now I'm eating pizza for lunch... :rolleyes1

How is the Biggest Loser workout? :confused3 I've had my eye on that one... I love the show!

Amy (and anyone else) - feel free to check in every time you workout! I know sometimes it helps keep me motivated to know that I can talk about it somewhere. I also have a group of friends on Facebook and every once in a while we'll talk about how we're doing. It's great to have that support. :thumbsup2

I love the boxing, but I haven't really done it on the wii fit. I just do it on Wii sports. I love it!! I haven't tried that bubble/river one yet, but Chuck did and it was very hard so kudos to you for making it all the way!

Missy does The Biggest Loser and I have another friend who recommended it. It's not difficult as far as doing the moves. It's simple in that regard, you know what I mean? But, it gave me a good workout! It is compatible with the wii balance board if you choose. I've just done the first day on it so I'm not sure how I like it yet. It also has recipes, which is cool. I'm just borrowing it from Gamefly right now, but if I like it, I may end up buying it. I also bought EA Sports Active for the wii from Amazon thanks to Leslie's recommendation. I'm looking forward to trying that one.

Ok, then, I'll start. It's a lost cause for me to go outside and do much- it's just too flippin cold! But, I don't want that to be another excuse NOT to do ANYTHING. So I got out my 5# weights and did 22 minutes of exercise (yes, my heart rate DID go up) watching my 2009 WDW Planning DVD. It's a start. I put a huge red X on my calendar- I know stupid; kinda like a paper chain for a 4 year old. :sad2: When March comes and the ice is gone, I'll be doing C25K. gotta start somewhere!

That's awesome, Liesa! :cool1: It's all about just getting started. :thumbsup2 You did 22 minutes of exercise that you didn't do yesterday. :goodvibes

You should take Marisa's suggestion and put a sticker on your calendar. :thumbsup2

After reading Jenny's TR (dismagiclover) of her experience at the half-marathon in January, I really would like to have a 10K race under my belt so I can show proof of time and get placed in a better starting location for the Disney Half. Otherwise, I'll be put at the back of the pack with many walkers. (And who knows at this point - I may just end up being one of those walkers! :rolleyes1 )

I had originally wanted to do my first 5K in October at the Race for the Cure. However, the Blue Moon Wicked 10K takes place at the end of October and I'm not sure if I should try to do two races only a couple of weeks apart. :confused3 I don't think it would be a huge issue since a 5K is the same distance that I plan to run three times a week by the time I'm done with the C25K program so it would be just another workout day, right? (Oh - and I am only required to keep a 20 minute mile for the 10K. Pretty easy. Obviously, I hope to do far better than that, but it's nice to know it won't be stressful in that regard.)

There are a few other 5K events that I could probably do in either August or September instead. They just aren't as exciting to me as the Race for the Cure. I had a good friend who died of breast cancer many years ago. She started out as my babysitter, but we became close and I ended up babysitting her children as I got older. :goodvibes She was only 27 when she was diagnosed and left behind two young boys. I'd love to run in her honor.

The 10K is the race I would train hardest for since a good time will get me a decent starting place in the half-marathon. Perhaps I could do one of the earlier 5K's and do the Race for the Cure, but walk it? I'd love the opinion of those who have been in races before.

I need to do something fun right now. I'd love to hear ideas of fun things for a single person or couple without children to do at WDW. What are some things that made you said, "If I/we ever get here without the kids, I'd love to do that!" :confused3 I'd like to start a list of activities to include in our January trip. Even if it's something you think is simple, please share!

hi Carissa!

I did Yoga with Bob today....UGH...not my favorite! It really makes me sweat! I just finished the 4 week program last week so I started the 8 week. I like that we do different things each workout...upper body, lower body, yoga, core, full body. And although it's easy to follow along, I agree that it gives me a good workout. Have you tried any of the challenges? Those are kinda fun! I did the "skate or splash" one after my Yoga today.

I finally finished that silly bubble game on the Wii fit...and I finally made it across the tightrope too. Those are hard, but I think that my workouts are helping with my balance.

I weigh in tomorrow so we'll see how that goes! Keep up the great work! :thumbsup2

Hi Carissa!

I fell woefully behind as I am prone to do - especially with my own weight loss journey. You are doing so well! And your thread is on fire!!

:rotfl2: at your internal dialogue during your workout. I frequently have those same discussions. ::yes::

Your family is beautiful -- animals too. ;)

I agree that renting points could be a good option for you to look into!

I am very inspired by all you've accomplished so far! :goodvibes

I haven't tried anything except for the first workout for the 4 week program. I plan to play around with it more. What I was trying to say (and I think you understood) is that the exercises are simple enough to follow along. They're not tricky like some workouts have you do. But, I was definitely sweating!! I'm looking forward to doing some upper body stuff. Have you tried any of the recipes yet? Good luck with your weigh in! :goodvibes

Hey Christine :goodvibes

Thanks so much for the compliments and encouragement. :flower3:

Hey Carissa,
If I were you I would try to get a 5K race under your belt sometime in the late spring or early summer if possible. Then you will have a feel for what races are like. You can focus on training for that and then move on to focus on training for your 10K. You'll need to maintain around a 12:00 minute mile pace for the proof of time to move you up a corral. That is 5.0 on the treadmill. If you decided to do the Race for the Cure too think of it as a training run.

As far as things to do at Disney without kids, I'd go to at least one signature restaraunt. Liz and I love the CA Grill, but I'm sure the others are good as well. (Jiko at Animal Kingdom gets great reviews.)

I wish I could do a 5K before July, but just not a possibility with Chuck gone. I'll have to make do with August as my earliest race. Hopefully his deployment won't be extended and he'll be home by then.

Thanks for the info on needing a twelve minute mile. :thumbsup2 That will help with knowing what to aim for.

I was thinking of trying California Grill, especially after seeing your review.

Carissa, Here is what we did....2006 Brett and I decided to do a land/sea cruise alone....no kiddos, no friends, just us! So, like you, I wanted to plan some fun adventures for those 4 days @ WDW prior to our cruise on the Wonder. So I booked TWO tours. We did "Walk In Walt's Footsteps" and "The Steam Train Tour"!! They were both awesome!! I also planned a dinner at AKL at JIKO!! What a great restaurant for a romantic dinner!! AND in all the years at WDW we had never had the chance to get ressies in Liberty Tree Tavern, so I booked a ressie there and got to enjoy the most amazing CHARACTER dinner even though I was not a kiddo!! OH and the food was fabulous!! Another day, Brett and I headed over to the Grand Floridian to their signature SPA!! Brett opted for a Sports Massage and I had a European Mani-Pedi + a massage. It was heavenly!!! And don't forget to get your very own Photo Passport!! Even though it is just the two of you, you still want ALL THE MEMORIES!!!

Hi Carissa! So glad to hear that you are progressing and keeping at it!!! I think a 10k is a GREAT idea!! As far as the "what would I do without kids" One thing is spend time just leisurely browsing in all the shops in the World Showcase. The other is sitting by the resort pool with a drink and a book with no kids in the pool to worry about!:goodvibes

Visiting a spa and having massages has been on my list, for sure! :thumbsup2

Those are two things that would be wonderful! There's so much I haven't had a chance to see just because I'm always making sure we haven't lost one of the children!

Hmm....definitely a signature restaurant. Jiko, Flying Fish and CA Grill being my 3 favorites.

Adult attractions--Hall of Presidents and the like.

Slower pacing--maybe sleep in?

A July 5K would work great too! It's nice to get that first race under your belt.

We've never seen the Hall of Presidents. :thumbsup2

The problem is I don't know when Chuck is coming home. And I probably won't know exactly until right before it happens. By picking August, I'm hoping I'm giving enough of a cushion to make sure he's home in time.

Will you be able to run outside once it warms up? I know it's not the same as a race but running outside will help you get an idea of your times and working up your speed.

I know I was pleasantly surprised by my speed with I did a mock 5K with Evan.

I really can't run outside until Chuck gets home. But, once he returns I hope to do a good portion of my runs outside. :thumbsup2 We have a great boardwalk here so I can run right by the ocean. That's where most of the races seem to be held.

Is there a HS or MS with a track or a park with a track or path where the kids could play while you run laps? Just being outside helps!

Cynthia- that's a great idea to get onto a track. The kids could monkey around on the bleachers or bring a ball to kick around on the field.

Carissa- How about Jellyrolls or YeeHaw Bob for some evening fun. Or going to the Poly Lobby to sit by the lounge ( you don't even have to drink, just people watch with coffee or a (gasp!) a board game or cards.

Photo scavenger hunt??

I had a few favorite "adult" things that I did on my last trip. The best was my trip to the GF spa. Wonderfully relaxing. I want to try to repeat it on my next trip. I've also really loved doing the Keys to the Kingdom tour at the Magic Kingdom. Almost as good as the spa day, was just spending time in the parks and around the resorts at a slow pace. My spa day I spent a bunch of time exploring the GF and the Poly. It was wonderful!
