My Magical Journey to Running the Half Marathon TR Link! p.107

OK, I know you already said this somewhere, but what kind of dog is Baxter? He is soooo cute!! :goodvibes

Do you guys have a last day of "school" with homeschooling or is it a year-round kind of thing? Sounds like you have a lot of great stuff coming up! :thumbsup2

He is a miniature schnauzer. :)

We have two more weeks left after this week and then we'll have finished the unit we're currently working on. I figure that's a good place to stop. My original plan was to school year round with lots of breaks throughout, but we all need some time off.

Hello, my friends! :goodvibes

Baxter is becoming more manageable and the housetraining is going well. The nice thing with having a puppy in the house is that it has really broken my online addiction! :rolleyes1

So let's talk running...

The other day I was finally able to manage running for 30 minutes straight at 4.5 (13 minute mile). You might remember my run time while doing the C25K program was only 4.0 so I'm slowly increasing that speed. Another couple of weeks and I hope to be at 5.0. :thumbsup2

Our community pool has opened and the boys and I have been visiting every other day or so. I swim some laps while I'm there and it's great cross-training for me. My legs are even a bit sore today from my workout yesterday!

Here is a list of the races I am currently signed up for:

October 16 - Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K

October 30 - Blue Moon Wicked 10K

January 8 - WDW Half-Marathon

I am trying to raise at least $200 for the Race for the Cure. I'm currently at $85. If anyone would be interested in donating to support finding a cure for breast cancer, please send me a PM and I will send you a link to my donation page. My full name is listed there so I don't feel comfortable putting the link here. Any amount donated would be greatly appreciated. :goodvibes

I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the start of "summer." :grouphug:

Good job lining up some races to train for! You can't allow yourself to slack-off when you have a goal in front of yourself. :thumbsup2

Great job with the running! I'm not going that fast yet. I'm trying to work on distance now and then increase my speed but I don't know... :confused3

I'm seriously thinking of getting a dog now. Way to go Carissa, lol.

You are really doing good with the running.
I am up to 3 minutes running, with a 2 .5 minute walk. As soon as my heart rate drops down into the 120's, I start running again at 4.6 mph. I'm shocked at how fast my heart rate drops back into the 112-113 bpm. I wanted to get my first mile done under 15 minutes, and I ran at 5 mph for 45 seconds, but I was short 5 seconds.

I did 3 miles in 50 minutes. I want to get that number down to 45 minutes.

Great job on the running!

Apparently a real job will do the same thing as a puppy

:rotfl2:

You are doing so, so awesome!!! I'm glad to see you have some races lined up too. I'm trying to get one in for the day after we return, but am weighing the wisdom of that. Given jet lag and overall weariness, I"m not sure it's a good idea. But, I want to nonetheless. We'll see!!

Question:

When did you try your first 5K (virtual or otherwise) in your C25K program?? Did you try one before you were done?? If so, do you think W6 is a good place to try it??

Hi Carissa! That is an ambitious race schedule! You go! I'm so proud of you for sticking with it.

I have been working on getting my eating and exercising back on track. I think I had a harder time getting back into my routine at home than I did maintaining on my vacation! :rolleyes1 All in all, I gained back 5 pounds, but am working on taking them off. You are an inspiration...keep up the great work! :thumbsup2

You guys make me tired just reading about all the work you are doing. With my bad knee, there's no way I can run, but I sure do love walking whenever I can for as long as I can before the swelling starts.

I think it is great that you have such determination and motivation. :thumbsup2 I would contribute, but I have contributed to quite a few extra things around here lately - flood victims, Mexico trip for youth at church, and a cystic fibrosis walk in honor of a girl who went to school with my kids in high school. I do send you my best wishes for raising funds for your event.

Your race schedule looks great! It will be fun to hear your first race reports!

Exactly! If it wasn't for the half-marathon, I think I could easily see myself not keeping up with the running. I knew what I was doing when I registered for it so early. ;)

Amanda

I think endurance/time is more important than distance or speed in the beginning. The others will come. :thumbsup2

I'm seriously thinking of getting a dog now. Way to go Carissa, lol.

Cool!! :cool1: I am so in love with my puppy. I never knew how rewarding it would be to raise a puppy. :goodvibes

So sorry I'm not answering this until now. I had read everyone's replies a while back, but didn't have time to respond right away and then I forgot. :rolleyes1

I started running on January 21st I believe and I did my first virtual 5K on Valentine's Day. So, I wasn't very far into the program at all. I just did my 2nd 5K on the treadmill Monday and I did better than my first attempt. :thumbsup2

It's so hard to get back on track after vacation! Hope you're back on track now. I've been struggling with it myself!

Thanks MeMom! Yeah, if we all donated to every charity out there, we'd all be broke for sure!

Your race schedule looks great! It will be fun to hear your first race reports!

I'm excited and nervous for my first race. I'm glad my first one is the Race for the Cure and only a 5K. It's the race I'm least nervous about. Can't wait to tell you all about it. :)

You're a beast!:thumbsup2 I mean that in the best, most complimentary way!

You have been so dedicated. Congrats on your continued success.

I like being called a beast! ;)

Thanks J. Not as dedicated lately as I'd like to be, but I'm doing okay.

Hey Julie! No worries at all. I don't get to post and read over here too often myself. Glad you stopped by. :goodvibes

Well I still think you're doing better than the rest of us slackers...well at least better than me, but then that's really not saying much since I just sit on my duff all day..okay I'll just stop talking now...;)

You're not a slacker. Right now you're working on some very important stuff. Being healthy emotionally/mentally is just as important and even more difficult to get there sometimes.
