Since I'm a newly single Mom, this is one of the first truly scary moments I've dealt with alone. DS1 just started walking. As he was walking around the couch, he grabbed onto a speaker wire for support (the speaker is on the shelf behind the couch). Of course, it toppled down on him. He got an immediate goose egg and the skin split, but didn't bleed. It looked like it was going to explode!!

I called the doctor and there was no need to rush him to the hospital or do anything besides ice and Motrin. He does think DS will have two black eyes by the morning though. :sad1:

I feel so guilty. Usually the speaker wire is behind the couch, out of DS' reach, but I vaccuumed behind there today and must have knocked the wire out of place. :confused3

Poor little guy. He's finally sleeping, but was crying and whining for quite some time.

Just needed to share - had to face this one alone tonight and needed to "talk" to someone.

 It happens no matter how hard we try. DD fell down the stairs on Mother's Day when she was three and I will never forget the sound of her falling. Geesh....these kids will be the death of us! :p

BTW, I save all those little packets of soy sauce and hot sauce and such that we get from take out places and freeze them. They are the perfect size for pint-size boo boos and re-freeze quickly. That or a bag or frozen peas!

Thanks for the kind words. I was even watching him, just at the other end of the couch. He ducks below the arm of the couch to play peek-a-boo. The speaker falling was all in slo-mo... :sad1:

Oh, and I used the peas on my son, while letting him suck on the ice cube.

Awww. Here's a hug for mama:  and here's a hug for the little one:

I went through something similar when DH and I were separated and it was such a lonely feeling. But you know what? All that matters is that you're there to kiss away the tears.

You're both going to be fine. :flower3:

Big hug for you. Kids get hurt, and thats just how it is. No matter how well we are watching them, they will find the speaker wire thats usually behind the couch. Hugs and kisses are usually the best meds for boo boos.

Oh no...how scary for the both of you. Though moms try to keep their babies safe all the time some accidents do happen. Dont be to hard on your self.

Hugs to both of you! I have a 19 month old, so I know where you are coming from. She's already survived falling off the changing table, and me slipping on ice while carrying her (about 9 months old), and we both went down and she hit her head on the sidewalk.

Kids that age are buildt to be tough I think! He'll be fine...

It is so hard as a parent to see your little one hurt! At least he is ok and he is young enough that he won't remember it!

 Accidents happen to the BEST of Moms.....hugs to you and your sweetie.

I swear I want to put my kids in plastic bubbles, but that's just not realistic...is it? LOL

My son was the worst about falling. Just before he turned one he climbed on to a lawn chair and before I could make it to him he rocked it and BAM! Instant egg in the center of his forehead. And right before picture day too!

My DD started walking October 11 and she took her first good tumble 6 weeks later when we were in FL. Her nose was a mess, nasty little road rash but that's all part of growing and learning to walk.
 I hope he's better in the morning :flower3:

Try wetting a sponge, putting it in a plastic baggie, and freezing it. It's cheap, gets soft pretty quick for boo-boos while still being cold, and can be refrozen pretty quickly.

Oh a hug is going your way.  DD has a tendency to scare me from time to time and I feel bad when she gets an owie. Let's hope that he feels better in the morning.

Sorry your little one was hurt. Hopefully he won't look too bad in the morning. :headache:

2 yrs. ago DD who was 2 at the time, decided to investigate her Christmas stocking hanging on the mantle. She gave it a good tug and down came the stocking, along with a 5 lb. statue of Santa, aka the stocking hanger. Hit her right on the head. I thought we were both going to pass out. She wound up with a huge goose egg, but was okay. I have never used stocking hangers again to this day.

Our babies are a lot tougher than we give them credit for, and I am hoping he gets up feeling much better tommorrow. You too. :flower2:

Sorry, I know this is off topic, but jfulcer, that flower bed in your siggie is so cool! :earsboy:

Couldn't copy the photo with the quote for some reason.

Sorry, okay, back on subject...

OT again... copy what photo?

We like the flower bed too. People walk by and have to hold up their kids up high so they can see the mickey shape - you can't see it from kid's eye level. :)

Ok, back on Topic...

Just wondering how he is doing this morning. To me, when my kids are hurt or sick, the night time is the worst. It seems so long and lonely (even though DH is home, he sleeps thru everything and doesn't worry or wake up like me). Accidents happen all the time. If you are concerned in the morning or if he acts cranky or sleepy instead of his normal self, I would bring him in to the doctor's this morning.

Please let us know how he is. Sending good thoughts your way
