My 5 year old cat Chester has been ill for several days. He hides most of the day and barely touches his food. He has some goopy junk coming out of his eye and he just looks sick.:(

Took him to the vet yesterday. He got a shot of antibiotics and we have some to give him at home. The vet said it may just be a low grade infection, but we'll have to watch him.

Anybody else have a sick kitty like this before?

Awww poor kitty. :( Hopefully the antibiotics will help. Has he eaten since you've taken him to the vet?

 Feel better soon, Chester!

Pixie dust for you and Chester from Leontyne (my kitty).

:wizard:

Sounds like it could be an upper respiratory tract infection. I've had several cats go through those-- in each case they had discharge from the eyes and lethargy. Time will take care of it, but antibiotics will help any secondary bacterial infections that might set in. (My 2 year old Sebastian just got done with a round of antibiotics for the same thing!)

Hope Chester feels better soon! :D

Yes I have and the antibiotics took care of it. I know how much you worry though. These kitties are just like my children!

Thanks everyone. I do worry about him. He's such a lovebug, and when he isn't clammoring to jump on my lap, I know things aren't good with him.

He did eat a little today, hopefully a good sign. Poor baby. And my kitten was being a brat and trying to eat his food. I had to "remove" her from the food area. She doesn't get that her big brother is sick today.:(

Hope you kitty is feeling better soon.

I can't give you any advice but I hope your kitty gets well soon! We have 2 and 1 is always getting sick with urinary and kidney problems. It's hard when animals are sick because they hide and they can't tell you what's wrong. I hope the anitbiotics do their job and your kitty is healthy and happy again soon!

I bet he is about back to normal today isnt he ::yes::

 Poor kitty.

I hope he gets well very soon.

Monty (although he's not a cat) got sick like that once in a while and antibiotics helped and he was back to normal in about a week.

If for some reason he does not eat, try some baby food, I was told by my vet that cats love that and it is high in calories so is a good thing when they are not eating enough. I usually keep some strained chicken or turkey on hand just in case. I had to feed my 20 year old that when he broke his pelvis for a few days. But I am sure the antibiotics will do the trick.

I've heard that about baby food, too. The only thing I can always get my cat to eat when he's sick is canned tuna (people tuna, not kitty tuna) :p

I know it's not the best for him but I figure at least it's SOMETHING, and contains water, too, so he won't get dehydrated.

A few years ago all of my 8 cats had an upper resp. infection. I had to give them all meds. I could give 6 of them the pill form but 2 of them were very difficult to give a pill to so I had to them liquid form and it was more expensive. That was a really fun 10 days! I now only have 2 and one is going on 19 years old.

Poor kitty, I hope he feels better soon.

Simba has had this a couple of times. His eyes had gook coming out of him. Antibiotics cleared it up in a couple of days. Kitty will be fine a couple of days now. :D
