Somehow he managed to get himself back to the house and the the door. We saw him laying there and relized his back end was hurt. We took him to the emergency vet hosital (less than a mile away) to get him checked out.
They xrayed his back end and told us he broke his pelvis in 3, maybe 4 places. :(
We were able to bring him home last night but he goes back to his regular Dr. today.
We can do 1 of 2 things for him. We can have it surgically repaired with pins and plates, but that will cost around $3,000. or put him on bed rest (in a cage) for 4-6 weeks.
So, right now he is home, resting comfortably, in a cage. He seems to be doing OK considering. He's tried to walk a bit (which he shouldn't be doing) so I suppose that is an encouraging sign.
Please keep him in your thoughts. I'm really not ready to lose another kitty right now...... :(
Aside from a little road rash on the face he has no other injuries.
This is a picture of him I posted last week. He's such a sweetie!
Hopefully his regular Dr. will have some more encouraging words for us!

Hope he gets better!!! Did he escape from indoors?

No, he is an indoor/outdoor kitty. Yes, I know the risks involved, but all my cats are indoor/outdoor.

You, your family and your kitty are in my thoughts and prayers.

I am hoping my story will give you some hope and make you feel somewhat better.

My sister rescued a bird (a mourning dove) several years ago because for some reason the mom left it and never came back. Because it was wildlife my sister called the government agency that deals with wildlife. They told her that because it is a wild animal, she couldn't keep it, and though it was sad, she wpould have to put the bird back outside and let nature take it's course--but no way would she let this bird die. It became a family, she has had Willie for many years now. He is caged but occasionally comes out to fly, he never could fly too well because we think that is why he was abandonded by his mom.

About 6 months ago, Willie came out to fly and he hit a wall or something, broke his wing and hurt his leg. He was a mess. My sister got very upset and went to the only place she could get to on a Sunday, the emergency vet. They told her that the only thing that could "maybe" save him was if they did an expensive surgery and that would be an iffy thing at best. All the while she got the feeling that they were really pushing this surgery and they made her feel guilty when she opted to take the bird back home. Then before she left they said the bird should be euthanized. My sister left and good thing. She put him in his cage and on Monday was able to take him to their regular vet. That vet did not suggest a surgery, she did say that the broken wing would probably be a problem and told her that the prospects did not look good. But she did splint the wing and foot and gave some medicine and then told my sister to just let him rest in his cage. She did that and was a wreck for days, crying and praying to God. The bird started eating and at least that made her feel better.

Happy ending: The bird is alive and well, his wing somehow mended all on its own (ok, I am sure with God's help) and he can walk on his leg which also healed. His quality of life is fine, he even sings more my sister says. If she had listened to the first vet the bird would most likely be dead, either from an unnecessary surgery or euthanasia. Animals are amazing and with our love and prayers just might heal by themselves. The power of prayer is amazing as well, and you have alot of us praying for kitty. :cat: Hang in there!
