I don't have a playstation, game cube, or whatever is out there?

Could you explain what's out there, what the differences are, and why they want it so badly? Why does it seem like everyone else has them?

Clueless in Indy

Because they are fun:D

DS10 has PS2 and Xbox

He likes Xbox best, but the games don't seem to go on sale as often as PS2 games.

So I should get a game or two for myself too? ;)

Actually, my daughter won an Xbox.

The Xbox game prices are going down, in fact I bought two yesterday for $15.99 at Best Buy. You can also get games on resale at like Gamestop, or Electronics Boutique or something like that.. even half.com or ebay.

The Xbox/PS 2 debate wages. Some people like the PS2 better, since it plays PS1 games.. but since you don't have those, thats a moot point.

Both have a DVD player capability. I think PS2 is ready to play but with Xbx you have to buy a connector/remote.

The Xbox has a hard drive, so we didn't need any memory cards for it.

Our also came with two games on it.

My kids are younger so the Xbox will last them a while. Gamecube is more for the younger crowd (my son even says Gamecube game are "baby" games). But my daughter loves the Gamecube games.

You have older kids, right?

Now, you work at a retail store, right? Does it have an electronics department, that you can get a discount. Right now, X box is running regular price about $199. PS2 about the same.

Yesterday, at Best Buy, you could have bought a Xbox, and gotten a $30 gift card for Best Buy.. not sure if that deal is still going on.

Hey, I hadn't thought of that. I'm liking this job more and more. :teeth: I get a 25% discount.

I'll have to double check the percentage on electronics though. :)

25% isn't bad.. (JcPenney, am i right?). Now heres another thought... can you combine discounts?

Kteacher was telling us about how her store (I think it was JcPenney) combined the employee discount AND some other sale, so she got some things at really good prices...

Now say, your store has a 10% off sale on everything in the store sale (Sears is doing this today), if you can combine this with your 25% thats not bad.. BUT you have to make sure that the store doesn't mark up the "regular" price so you do REALLY get a deal.

For example Xbox, Ps2 are running about $199. 25% off that is a good deal. (almost $45 off ). If you can combine that with another sale.. you've got it made.

BUT if they jack up the price of the Xbox, Ps2, to about $239 regular price and then offer an off percentage (I've seen stores do this!), you are paying about what a regular price would be somewhere else.

As for games for yourself, it all depends. our Xbox had two games in it. When we bought PS1 it had some games in it.

We have a PS2. The kids really like it. I can usually find really good games on Ebay and at the used game store for reasonable prices. IMO the NEW prices are unreasonable for all the games, so I don't buy them very often. DS does sometimes buy them new himself, though. If you can wait about a year, you can usually find a game for about half what it was when it first came out.

One benefit I see is that PS2 also plays DVDs. I don't know if any of the other systems do that.

How old are your kids and what types of games do they like?

Personally my 1st chioce would be a PS 2. They seem to have a wider selection of games for every age and interest. We never owned a PS1 but we buy PS1 games to play on the PS2. We also use it a DVD player.

My second choice would be Game Cube. This is also my 13 DS choice. We don't haveo ne yet but he will likely get one for his B'day. I think the biggest appeal here to us it the new games based on the characters we have "played with" for 10 year. We have a NES, Super NES and N64. I play more games on the N64 than any other system we have.

DS is getting Game Cube for Christmas. The salesperson mentioned that PS2 and X-box are for the teen group and up. I walked up and down each aisle looking at the various games and systems. PS2 and X-Box had MANY violent ones whereas Game Cube had them but also had the largest selection of "E" rated games.

I think it is just because that store didn't carry many of the PS2 E ratedgames. They are hard to find because od the misconception that PS2 in not for younger kids. My 5 yr DD has almost as many games my 13 DS. Add to that all the PS1 games that are E rated and my guess is that PS 2 plays more E rated games than GC.

My girls are almost 17 and 11. A mix between tomboys and girly girls. lol

And I work at Ayers. It's got a lot of names all over the country Famous Barr's is one. It's owned by the May company.

No PS 1 here either, so those games don't do us any good. We've got N64 and Dreamcast.

I had this probelm too. I finally decided on the gamecube for a couple of resons. One I have younger kids and the games I have seen for GC are geared more for the younger crowd. Two I talked to alot of people and everyone said the games fro GC are excellent and there isn't another GC system in the works that will make my system seem old. Both PS and Xbox are within a year of releasing a new system, or so I'm told. I also like the game choices for GC, Mario, Zelda etc. and feel that these are games my kids would like to play. Heck I can't wait for the new Zelda to come out. I'm going to buy it for me!
