My Journal to Me - Comments welcome!

Wow, how quickly I can fall back into bad habits. When I actually sat down and ate a meal, I was ok, but the mindless snacking .... geesh! DD12 had a Dr's appt at 8 am yesterday morning so we were out of the house at 7a. I grabbed a Krispy Kreme doughnut on the way out the door. We stopped at the Pancake House for "brunch" after the Dr appointment and then I just "grazed" until dinner time. :sad2:

Food:
7a - Krispy Kreme doughnut
9:45a - Chicken Crepe, 3 small potato pancakes, 12 oz milk
1 - 6p - 5 almonds, rootbeer float, bag of Snapea's Crisps (yes, I ate the whole dumb bag!) :sad2:
7:00p - turkey sandwich on whole wheat w/ muenster cheese & avacado, 1.5c watermelon, 12 oz skim milk

Water: 50 oz - still not enough, but more than I have been drinking the past two weeks. I am going to have to work my way back up to 100 oz.

Exercise: none. I did walk all over Seaworld for the 4th of July so I am going to count that as 60 minutes toward my July total.

Anna

Today was another early Dr appointment and then down to the zoo with visiting friends. DD12 is starting something called CRT. She wears special contact lenses at night while she sleeps and then takes them out in the morning and will be 20/20 for the rest of the day w/o glasses. It is a great idea - no glasses for middle school and she will actually be able to see during swim practice too! Anyway, she was fitted for the lenses yesterday. Wore them last night and then went back to the Dr this morning (at 8 am again!) for a check. She was 20/25 which is great after just one night. Now she will wear them every night and we will have another recheck next week. The only bummer is during the adjustment time, her eyes partially revert back to her old vision. By 4pm today she put her glasses back on, but they were too strong and it gave her a headache. :guilty:

I managed to keep my eating under better control today - mostly because I was so disgusted with myself yesterday. Still not enough water, but getting better. I even had a few minutes to myself and managed to get to journals this afternoon. I joined the July exercise challenge (with lower minutes this time) and the close the kitchen challenge (no eating after 8pm). It is a good thing. Since we ate dinner so early today, I was wanting a snack (hmm, ice cream!) after I put DD3 to bed. It was 8:06p. No snack.

Food:
7:30a - granola bar (ate in the car driving to Dr appt)
11:00a - 2 spoonfuls of DD10's frozen lemonade
12:00p - 1/2 grilled chicken wrap w/o dressing, 1/3 of side of nachos
3:00p - 1.2oz almonds, 2 animal crackers
4:30p - hot dog, 1/2c baked beans, 3c watermelon chunks, 12 oz skim milk
Totals: 1488 cal, Fat: 56g, Carbs: 182g, Fiber: 18g, Protein: 70g

Water: 68 oz

Exercise: walked all over the zoo pushing DD3's stroller - why don't I remember going down any hills when I had to push uphill so many times? :confused3 - This had to count for at least 60 minutes~

Tracy, I didn't know there used to be a Seaworld in Ohio. We have passes to Seaworld (good rates for locals). It is a lot of fun for the kids, and me and DH too! I like the flexibility to just go for the fireworks, etc and not feel like I need to "get my money's worth" and spend 12 hours there. In the summer they do different shows at night. It is neat to go down and see them after DH gets home from work sometimes. I haven't ever been to the one in Orlando. I think it would feel weird when I am so used to my "home" Seaworld. :rotfl2:

Hi Anna,

It sounds like you are getting back on track. Isn't it amazing how having company and being sick can get you off your beaten path? I am going through the same thing, I was deathly ill last night and drank a real coke today because it sounded and tasted so good! Definitely count that 60 minutes at Sea World in for your July total. Here's to getting back on track, keep up your good work!

Amy

I've never heard of CRT. It sounds amazing. Do the contacts bother her? My older son had 2 eye surgeries, eye exercises and of course glasses. Unfortunately, I've never heard of this. Is there an age limit or restrictions on who can benefit from this procedure? Ds has talked about getting laser eye surgery but this sounds much safer. Does an optomotrist or opthomologist oversee the procedure? It sounds like your daughter is doing great.

Hang in there foodwise! Its been a rocky summer for almost everyone I know.

I was at the SeaWorld in NE Ohio when I was 14. It was the first time I'd ever been to a SeaWorld and I loved it. Very close was another amusement park - Geauga Lake - which I loved going to as a kid. I never made it to the one in California - you must be having a great time with your passes.

I forgot to say yesterday that I'm a new auntie! DB#3 and DSIL had a baby boy Thursday. They also have twin boys who just turned 4 this week :thumbsup2 .

Got some exercise in :thumbsup2 . Got back to 100oz of water :thumbsup2 . Ate too much food  . Spent the day with Dfriends again today playing tourist at Coronado. We rented a Surrey Bike and piled 2 adults, 4 kids, and a preschooler onto it. We had a blast, and I got an hour of bike riding exexcise! Had lunch at a really nice place right on the bay, Peohe's. We also rode the ferry to San Diego downtown and back again. During the ride over we stopped at NAS North Island to pick up Navy passengers. The ferry stop is right between the USS Stennis and USS Reagan aircraft carriers. These are two really big ships when you are down in the water next to them. In 2001, the kids and I got to tour the Stennis with a friend stationed onboard. It was really impressive. The kids thought it was really cool to see the ship again.

Food:
7:15a - 1 blueberry crumble toast w/ 1t PB (I finally found the blueberry crumble at the store!)
10a - 1 banana, 1/2 of 1.2 oz almond pack
1p - 5 hawaiian style ribs, coleslaw w/ BBQ style dressing, french fries, 2 bites lava cake (would have had more lava cake, but the kids INHALED it! :rotfl2: )
3:30p - Coldstone Creamery Watermelon sorbet (no fat, no dairy!) w/ gummy bears. I shared this with DD3, but I ate most of it. :sad2:
7:30p - In & Out Burger: most of an order of fries. I didn't order anything, but ended up mindlessly eating most of DD's fries. I should have just ordered a burger and at least had some protein.

Water: 100oz :cheer2:

Exercise: 60 minutes pedaling fully loaded Surrey bike! 2 kids also had sets of pedals, but it seemed like Dfriend and I were doing most of the effort. :rotfl2:

Amy, sorry you were not feeling well. I don't generally drink soda at all, but for some reason, gingerale and rootbeer were the only things that sounded soothing. Water definitely did not sound good.

Jane, CRT is Corneal Refractive Therapy. Here is a link I found.
http://www.paragoncrt.com/
Either an optometrist or an opthamologist can do it. It is completely noninvasive and reversible. If you stop wearing the lenses your eyes will revert back. It is sort of like orthodontic retainers for your eyeballs. There are some limitations on who is a good candidate. My astigmatism is too bad so it won't work for me. DD12 is nearsighted and has a minor astigmatism and she is a great candidate. DH's nephew has also done it for many years. He was actually part of the clinical trials in Boston. Initially the contacts bothered her a lot (like sand in her eyes), but after three days it is much better already. On the good side, it has kept her from reading at night after she is supposed to be lights out :rotfl2: . DD12 is too young for laser eye surgery. If she wants to do it as an adult she can. DB#2 (the one who just visited from HI) had the laser eye surgery and LOVES it. DB#3 is planning on doing the surgery next year. DB#1 & I are still kinda freaked out by the surgery.

Congrats on the new nephew!!! :sunny: Sounds like you had a great time being a tourist plus you got in lots of exercise. Way to go!! Thanks for the info on CRT I've bookmarked the site and I'll show ds next time he comes over. I agree that laser eye surgery kind of freaks me out too.

Congrats on becoming an aunt!!! Another congratulations for the great exercise!!! When I read your last post, I felt like I was reading a great trip report! Sounds like such a fun day. You're definitely my inspiration when it comes to water consumption!! I'm defintely going to have at least 64oz tomorrow. Hope you enjoy the rest of the weekend!

If I post now maybe I can resist the darn chocolate chip cookie dough in the frig. :furious: Keep me accountable! Last day with Dfriends and hopefully the last day of bad eating choices on my part. I had good intentions at Rubio's today for lunch and ordered a HealthMex chicken taco and no sides. It was ok, but I really wanted the regular chicken taco - it has all the good stuff on it like cheese, guac, and sauce! Dfriend went back to order more food (dang kids are eating a lot right now!) so I ended up getting the chicken taco (after I had already eaten the HealthyMex one!) and washing it down with about a 1/3 of DH's coke. It gets worse. There is a Coldstone right next to Rubio's :sad2: . Ate about 1/3 of DD10's mint/brownie ice cream. Got it back together at dinner, but the damage had alredy been done.

Food:
8:30a - 3 pancakes w/ 1/2c blueberries, 1 egg, 12oz skim milk
11:30a - Rubios: HealthyMex chicken taco, Regular Chicken taco, 8 oz coke, 1/3 "like it" size mint ice cream w/ brownie mix-in
3:30p - 1.2 oz almonds
6:00p - 1/2 turkey sandwich on wholewheat w/ havarti & avocado, 2 slices watermelon, 12oz skim milk
Totals: Cal - 1884, Fat: 79g, Carbs: 205g, Fiber: 15g, Protein: 90g

Water: 104 oz - at least I seem to have gotten this part back on track.

Exercise: none again...

Family movie time, gotta go... Have a great weekend everyone!

Anna

Hi Anna,

You have had a very busy week! With all of the activities that you have done with family and friends, I definitely think you can count a lot of those minutes as exercise! :goodvibes I bet once things settle down for you, healthy eating choices will become easier. :goodvibes

I hope you have a great day today! :sunny:

Congratulations on becoming an aunty :)
Hope you managed to resist the chocolate chip cookie dough :)

Last set of visitors left so today .... we did absolutely nothing! It was wonderful to just be lazy. Spent a lot of time at the pool doing a Sudoku puzzle and reading a book -- ahh! Kids played, DH puttered. Eating was good, now I just need to get exercise back into the picture. I had actually planned on swimming some laps, but just as I was getting ready to go in (DD3 taking a nap), DH was adding chlorine (DD3 taking a nap!) - oh well.

Food:
9:30a - 1c GoLean Cereal, 4 small apricots, 12oz skim milk
12:00p - 6oz FF yogurt, 1/2 serving pita chips
2:00p - 1.5c watermelon
6:00p - 1/2 ham sandwich on wholewheat w/ brie, 1 serving PB pretzels, apple, 12oz skim milk
Totals: Cal: 1238, Fat: 30g, Carbs: 175g, Fiber: 21g, Protein: 81g

Water: 104 oz

Exercise: still none

Thanks everyone for stopping by. DB#3 sent pics of the newest family member - he is adorable! I can't wait to meet him at the end of the month.

The cookie dough is still there. My pending WI tomorrow morning has helped me behave today. I think I will just bake the rest of it tomorrow and then the kids will eat it instead of just me.

What a great day you had! It sounds like ours yesterday (minus the pool!). Glad to hear you survived all your company and went right back to your healthy eating and water drinking. You'll get that exercise in for sure!! Way to go! :goodvibes

Hi Anna! Looks like you are pretty much back on track after your string of visitors! And I noticed you got the TJ's Handful of Almonds. Aren't they great?!?

I've never heard of those special contacts, but what a great option, especially for a pre-teen!

I can't go on vacation anymore, it takes me too long to get caught up on everyone's journals! And my new job = less time for slacking off on the internet...

You are doing great, how did the weigh-in go?

Hi Anna!

Glad to see that things have settled and you got a day to just relax and chill!! I have family in town too and it can wreak havoc with your normal schedule, along with eating and exercising...so it's nice to see that you did so well with it!

Congrats on being an Aunt too!

have a great day!

You made it thru the hectic part of your summer!!! :woohoo: Now is the time for you to sit back, relax and enjoy the rest of your summer. How's the new baby doing?

WI this morning was 170.0. Did my darndest to make the scale switchover to 169.5 ,but no go. I am ok with 170 though - only .5 lb gain over the past 25 days of visitors. Of course, getting sick half way through probably was a blessing in disguise.

Ran a bunch of errands this morning, came home to find an ant attack :furious: . After taking care of that, I got on a roll and ended up scrubbing the whole kitchen floor - my grout was really dirty! I decided that counted as my exercise for today (hands and knees scrubbing). Then the cookie dough caught me. 2 cookies actually made it into the oven before I ate them. The other 4 were not so lucky. :rolleyes1: Apparently the predone cookie dough squares are just as tasty as the stuff in the tube ....

DH and I went out to dinner tonight after we picked up my car (had a service check up). I ended up making reasonably good choices (it wasn't intentional, but it was what sounded good.)

Food: (Damage report)
7:30a - Luna Lemon Zest bar
10:15a - Starbucks: 1/2 pc of Reduced Fat Blueberry coffee cake
1:30p - 1/2 turkey sandwich on wholewheat w/ havarti & avacado, 3/4c grape tomatoes, 12oz skim milk
2:30p - 6 chocolate chip cookies (4 dough, 2 cooked) :sad2:
7:00p - Kings Fish House: 2 small slices sourdough, grilled artichoke appetizer, "Nawlin's BBQ shrimp" appetizer, 3/4c sauted fresh spinach (from DH's entree), 1 Hurricane (saw it on the menu and had to have it! :rolleyes1 )

Water: 100oz (drank the last cup at 9:30p. I will probably regret that around 2 am ...)

Exercise: 85 minutes scrubbing floors ...

Anna

CJK: it was so nice to have a lazy day. Apparently I missed some crucial places with the sunscreen though (like my middle  ) I haven't had a burn like this in awhile. Oh, well.

Amy: Welcome back! I love the TJ almonds. They are the perfect amount and great to throw in my bag. The contacts are great. Kids 11-16 are a big part of the market. DD can even put them in and take them out w/o multiple attempts now. She has another check tomorrow morning with the Dr. She is really pleased with how it is going and so am I. Congrats again on starting the new job and good luck. Check in when you can. You always have great advice and suggestions. :cheer2:

Scott: thanks for stopping by and have fun with your visiting family.

Jane: I am glad that the busy part of the summer is done. It is nice to have my schedule be my own again. DSIL came home from the hospital 30 hours after her C-section. She is an OB resident at the hospital and it was driving her crazy to be a patient - too many visitors :rotfl2: . New baby is doing great though! Pretty easy baby and his 4 year old big brothers love him too.

Okay, you deserve 3 cheers :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: for having allllllll of that company and only gaining half a pound!!!!!!!!!!!! Fantastic. Good for you for gettng in some exercise and cleaning your kitchen at the same time! Keep up the great work!

That artichoke appetizer and BBQ shrimp sound delicious. My kind of food! Glad to hear that Mom and baby are doing well. Just hope she remembers to take things easy at home for awhile.

That is great that you only gained .5lb in 25 days! I gained 6 lbs in 10 days... :rolleyes1

Aren't babies fun (when they're not yours)? :teeth:

Sounds like a really yummy dinner out! I would have done the exact same thing with the cookie dough - I feel your pain! I hope the kids school does not do the cookie dough fundraiser again. If they do I am only going to get 1-2 tubs, make them all and bring them to work.

Scrubbing grout is no small task, are you sore today? I thought I was in awesome shape and I went waterskiing on Sat and my arms are STILL sore!

Hi Anna,

That's great that you only gained .5 during the month! :cheer2: Congratulations on becoming an aunt! :goodvibes

Hope you have a great day! :sunny:
