My imagination of what June was like and what it was really like..

We used to go in August all the time when my son was in school, it was just the only time we could go. We, too, are from Georgia, and frankly the heat and humidity doesn't bother us. It might be because both my son and I have the philosophy that hot is hot. I've lived in the desert of Saudi Arabia with zero humidity and lived on the Florida coast with 100% humidity and lived in Albuquerque NM, which is sort of in the desert but also in the valley of a mountain so gets snow in the winter so it's a mixture but hot, and frankly I couldn't tell the difference, hot was hot and I don't seem to sweat any more or less. My hair, now that's a different beast, all the curls and frizz come out in the humidity. I'm like flortlebab, I either let the girls fly solo or wear a light weight regular bra, no sports bras for me so at least I don't have to fight the beast getting it off. Sundresses are my friend at WDW, no bra required and they let the air flow. We do go slower in the summer, we don't spend as much time at the parks and more time at the pool (bar) and I'm an expert at finding shade but I'm allergic to the sun (could come from all that time in deserts) so I have to do that in the winter too. We will be there for a long weekend in the beginning of August this year, my baby powder is always packed with me so no worries.

I wanted to share what it was really like for those who try to avoid the hot temps, like we did. (I did go in Sept. last fall with a girlfriend and we had cooler than normal temps so it wasn't bad at all).

We went mid-Sept last fall and it was extremely hot - more like what you describe for your June trip, with having to change clothes mid-day. I have been in July and a few times in August and our Sept trip was worse for heat. Just goes to show you can have different experiences any month.

We were June 27-June 2 and thought it was much more pleasant than our Houston summer heat and humidity. With that said, when we go in summer we do all our planning for FPs and ADRS but it is fairly common for us to end up cancelling then if we feel wiped out from the heat. We do try to create our schedule so we are there for rope drop and then head back to the resort or to some kind of indoor air conditioned place (bar, resort hop, etc) so we are not outside in peak heat and humidity. Then we feel rested and ready to face the heat again we go back to the parks in the evening. I do have to say that I don't think I would have as much fun if I we were doing a commando trip in the summer heat and humidity. I think the key is to be more relaxed about everything you "have" to do in the summer months.
Canceling ADR's was much easier before they implemented the 24 hour ahead fine.

I feel like the older I get the less I can tolerate the heat. I pretty much stay indoors as much as possible July-August. It's just soul crushing heat to me. However, I will take it over blizzards and below freezing temperature nonsense.

I'll take freezing any time...and here's me going in July...ugh! At least when it's cold you can get warm by wearing the right gear, when it's hot and you have to be outside, what can you do? But no matter what...I'm preparing for the worst with a good attitude! After all, I am going to my favorite place in the whole world, even if I'm about to get burned up...LOL!

But they allow you to reschedule and you can reschedule for anytime AFTER you trip is over, not just during your trip. When we have decided last minute that we don't feel like eating at a scheduled ADR i just search until I can find another ADR that is more than 24 hours out and then cancel that ADR if we aren't going to use it. Even if you weren't able to do that, I would still much prefer to pay a cancellation fee of $10 per person than go to the ADR and end up ordering more than $10 worth of food and drinks when I am either not hungry or too tired or uncomfortable to enjoy it. WDW implemented the cancellation fee because so many people were just not showing up for the ADRs instead of canceling them which was resulting in tables that could be filled going empty. We always try to cancel ASAP by reviewing our next day's plans but if we are too tired or someone isn't feeling well or we aren't hungry, we will go ahead and reschedule.

All day long I had a layer of sweat on my face and chest. My underthings stayed sweaty and I went through two bras per day/night. At the end of touring each afternoon, getting off that wet sports bra was like wrestling an angry octopus. :D

Overall, I had grown the 'thought' of the heat to a larger than life experience, and it wasn't as bad as I expected. If you try it, come prepared. Bring a small fan, plenty of bras and panties, baby powder, & sunglasses.

THIS. My DH and I have gone in August the past three years, and if I have a suggestion for anyone, it's to do laundry at the resort! Many people stay for 7 days and don't room in their suitcases for 14 outfits (or even have 14 bras!). I actually think it's pleasant to do laundry in the resorts as they are always next to the swimming pools. So start your laundry, watch the clock, and enjoy a swim until it's time to change clothes over to the dryer! Then just keep swimming... :-)

Bite your tongue! Laundry and vacation do not go in the same sentence! Ever. We go for 10 days on our summer trips and you better believe I have everything I need to change clothes (more than once sometimes) each day, have a few spares on top of that and not do laundry. Laundry is a chore to be done at home, not on vacation. Bless your heart if you do though, more power to ya

If I have to I can toss a bra in the sink and hand wash and roll in a towel to dry by morning. Though I've never found it necessary.

I don't mind washing a load of clothes, but I would NEVER cook or wash dishes at Disney. I have to do that enough when we go to the beach and stay in the family condo!

LOL.. True. Don't do either of those on vacation either. Though to be honest, I don't know why I say do laundry anyway, I don't do laundry. DH does. I cook, he does laundry.

Haha! I see your point... I don't mind, though!

We were at DW the last week of June and it was definetely hot, but actually didn't seem quite as bad as 2nd week of June last year. We took afternoon breaks every day which helped a lot. Definitively recommend bringing extra bras! Pretty gross putting one on from earlier in the day that's still wet from sweat!:crazy2:

Two complete outfits per day is a must in the Summer.

Yup, it's brutal. The heat radiates off the pavement. It's so gross stepping outside, you feel like you immediately need a shower. Everything sticks to you. Yuck. Also, everyone else stinks as well. One summer, we were on the MK train and a guy a couple of seats in front of us had on a tank top. He put his arms up to try to cool off, and all of us behind him were treated to the nastiest stench of his under arm body odor blowing on us.

One early September trip we went to AK for Tusker House breakfast. By time we walked back towards front gate to head to MK we knew ... we needed to go via hotel to change our clothes already.

Kinda makes me wonder how many nasty bodies are using the resort pool as a bath. o_O I mean think about it....are all those exhausted parents bathing their dirty children before an afternoon swim? :crazy2: We took a dip in the AK pool and it was as warm as a nighttime bath. With 75 strangers. :flower3:

I'm from PA... we have humidity, but nothing like this. Our 100% humidity and Florida's 100% humidity are two different things! I actually brought some prescription antifungal cream just in case. I'm big-busted, so you can imagine my potential problems...

Some days after a large meal (especially after Biergarten...), I'd stagger around, mumbling things like,"Is this the humidity... or is this the meat sweats?"

I'm from California, where our heat is dry. After getting off the plane, the first time those automatic doors opened at MCO, that wall of thick humidity hit me like a suffocating blanket.

Going into the parks, I cursed, why did Walt Disney even think this was an appropriate place for a resort? Eventually, I decided I had to just accept being covered in a gross mixture of sweat, sunscreen, and humidity -- and I think now I kind of miss that whenever I go in the winter and it's not unbearably hot. It's almost as if the heat is a character in the story or an old friend.

I did see a Disney executive wearing a suit one day, and that just looked like the worst punishment one could ever have.

OMG that is so funny and gross.

I'm in Ohio. I do not go to Florida in the summer. Nope.

You have to prepare in advance for summer at wdw. Get use to the heat the best you can before you leave. For most people about a month ahead of time should be fine. I work by a 1600 degree heater. Yes you read that correctly 1600 degree. But that is nothing compared to the heat at wdw. I'm sure it helps me prepare a little bit for it.
If you have a yard do your yard work in the hotest part of the day. Get ready for wdw. But know your limit. Also take long walks. I like to walk a half of a marathon a day. Not all at one time but throughout the course of the day.
When you are at wdw take advantage of the free water. If the heat is getting too much for you go some place inside and cool off. Eat inside. Do not eat at a place that doesn't have inside seating.
Don't be afraid to leave the park a few hours and go take a nap or go swimming. Also remember to put on sunblock. Do the inside rides and shows at the hotest part of the day if not going back to hotel.
Enjoy but be safe. Know your limit and other people in your party.
