my other idea of a gourmet meal: bbq ribs, french fries, and coleslaw

item 2: don't you hate it when they use landscaping debris to "decorate" a plate of food? i've seen lots of the food pictures that look like they have clover from my lawn on expensive food.

I Know what you mean i hate the nice presentations with the mouse size bits of food. I am a chicken nuggets, fried shrimp, french fries, & cole slaw type of girl. Oh and the choco cake too:goodvibes I usually steer clear of the places like that. I am all about the quantity.

Too each his own, this really does explain the success of the Disney Dinning Plan, IMO.
Reminds me of the person on this board who said they would not care if Coral reef served burgers and chips, they don't go to Disney for the food, so too bad for those of us that used too.

That being said one of my favorite meals is curry chips and a battered sausage, but I would not call it gourmet.

I love you man! ok over the top. But yes, shrimp, ribs, a big ole hunk of meat, fried chicken. BTW I have been a professional cook for 30+ years and most of us like these things. Presentation, sure. But make sure you present me lots of meat, and good hearty sides. I take it you love CHH, and you can take a foofoo eater there and they'll be happy too.

Hmm, I love good Fried Shrimp and crispy Golden French Fries too.
You have great taste ! More Cocktail Sauce please !

And not just any cole slaw, but the kind that makes a picnic special.

And Ribs, the kind you will see on the Food Channel, from the special BBQ places that make the South famous.

Is there anything at Disney like this?

Here in New England when I hit the local casino, we have a place I love called BIG BUBBA's BBQ, pricey, but the kind of place where you ache to lick your fingers.

Now I am hungry !

LOL! I guess Im different when Im on vacation Id like something better, something I cant get at home. I dont eat much fried food b/c it doesnt agree with me, plus I try to eat healthier.
Now I do love a Pecos Bills Burger with all the toppings and some cheese sauce for my fries! Its our traditional first MK day lunch!

1) That is why DDP has lowered the standards of the eateries.
2) People just want lots of food, regardless of quality or uniqueness.
3) For $25-$28 for a TS meal, I expect more than shrimp or BBQ.
4) It is a shame that America taste buds have been "McDonald-ized".

I totally agree. It is truly sad

While I like the fried shrimp, fries and coleslaw at Columbia Harbor House, it's not my idea of a gourmet meal. It's a good thing that Disney provides so many different restaurants for all different tastes :thumbsup2.

Couldn't have put it better :thumbsup2

I like to eat food like this occasionally too but I just can't eat fried stuff for every meal. It gets downright nasty after a while.

I am tired of people complaining about food at Disney. There is something for everyone from the picky eaters to the gourmands. If you can't find something good, then there is something wrong with you. NO, every restaurant may not be to your liking, but I'm tired of Disney being accused of dumbing down their menus because not all of us want to eat Shredded Llama butt-au-flambe with a side of haricot vert and a rhubarb puree and not all of us want bugers and fries.

They offer something for everyone and I am darn glad they do it like they do it.

I love fried shrimp!!
But they have to be jumbo butterfly.. the size where you can get 3 or 4 bites from each shrimp.
Around these parts all you'll find are the "one bite and it's gone" size things that barely taste like shrimp. I doubt Disney offers anything like I would like--

And here's my ultimate fried seafood platter--those shrimp, scallops ,oysters, and a REAL crabcake. BUt again not found around here or at WDW.
Most places you'll get a piece of overcooked fish along with a pile of clam strips that are more batter than clam---.

And who's kidding who....the cole slaw is over-rated.

While I love fried shrimp, it is hardly my idea of goumet, but that is what makes the world go round.

To me, gourmet is:

Amuse: Tomato Fennel Custard in an Organic Hen's Egg, Smoked Salmon Panna Cotta, Demitasse Cup with Smoked Salmon, Celery Root Puree, Tomato Salad and Micro Basil, and Caviar with Traditional Garnishes.

1st: Lobster Salad with Watermelon Radish, Kolrabi and Vanilla Aioli

2nd: Seared Scallop served on a Corn Cake with Creamy Corn and Chorizo Sauce

3rd: Duck Breast, Sausage and Confit paired with Butternut Squash

4th: Australian Kobe Beef with 5 day oxtail jus, smoked garlic mashed potatoes with braised shortribs and spring vegetables with black garlic

5th: White Chocolate Gelato with Micro Orchids

6th: Hawaiian Kona Chocolate Souffle

:thumbsup2

and after a meal like that, I'd still want a Mickey Ice Cream Bar and Burger at Pecos Bill's.:lmao:

Couldn't agree more.

I really don't understand the point of the OP's post. If you want that kind of food it's available.

If you want gourmet offerings that's available too.

As far as the dumbing down of the menus, it's most evident at Epcot's eateries. The pavillion restaurants at one time had a lot to offer in terms of interesting meals. Now they are more geared to American tastes and offer very little in terms of inventive fare. Still there are signatures that offer what those restaurants are lacking, so I really can't complain.

Fried shrimp is definatly not gourmet, at least not the fried shrimp at most Disney restaurants, (i.e. Columbia Harbor House,) if you're talking about the fried shrimp I had once at Narcoossees, then I might think gourmet, but that actually wasn't that great.

And I don't think the menus have been dumbed down too much, if at all. But I eat at a lot of signature restaurants, and with restaurants like The Wave and Sanaa being two of the most recent additions, I can't really complain about things being dumbed down.
