my idea of a gourmet meal: fried shrimp, french fries, and coleslaw

my other idea of a gourmet meal: Bbq ribs, french fries, and coleslaw

item 2: Don't you hate it when they use landscaping debris to "decorate" a plate of food? I've seen lots of the food pictures that look like they have clover from my lawn on expensive food.

LOL! Ita!!! Don't get me wrong, I like a gorgeous presentation...as long as it tastes as "pretty" as it looks. We've been to many, many WDW restaurants over the last 11 years. I guess I am one of "those" who really doesn't go to WDW for the amazing food. Is it good? Yes, for the most part. I've had some really blah meals too. I've never had an "OMG this is the best thing I've EVER eaten moment...not once in those 11 years.

But I degress, we are not picky...we can be satisfied with TS or CS, or kiosk. For us just being in the magic makes eating even a mediocre meal pretty ok.

If I want outstanding, amazing gourmet, I really am not going to go looking for it at WDW.

You people do understand the OP was simply saying they prefer their food simple and hearty. It's called tongue-in-cheek.

Right?

For example; my MOM'S idea of roughing it is a hotel without a hot tub.

1) That is why DDP has lowered the standards of the eateries.
2) People just want lots of food, regardless of quality or uniqueness.
3) For $25-$28 for a TS meal, I expect more than shrimp or BBQ.
4) It is a shame that America taste buds have been "McDonald-ized".

I have to agree.

Although I am not sure I blame McDonalds as much as Fridays, Chillis and the like.
They compete with all the little quality mom and pop places IMO and are the real problem.

This is why so many Americans are obese. Having pride in a diet like that. This is the grossest thing about the DDP too. Seeing people with trays of food that are mostly junky and fried, along with a giant soda and a "dessert in a cup". Ugh. Makes me sick.

I can eat a "100% fried food" meal about once a month. And when I do, I always regret it.

I bet the OP loves the DDP too.

As an overweight woman, I can agree that the DDP is pretty bad with the dessert for every meal. Even I, as a fat girl, don't really care for it. I chose apples instead of fries at counter service (or had the salmon in Sunshine Seasons) to counteract some of the "bad" crap I've eaten.

Last month was my first (and only, I hope) experience with the DDP because the friends I was sharing a DVC villa with figured it would be easier on the budget. I normally pay OOP with a TiW card where it's accepted.

I would appreciate that you don't blanket every fat person with gross generalizations about why we are the way we are. The last comment I would take as a personal slam if I were the OP.

I agree!!!
If everyone ate fried junk, burgers, ribs and pop only during their trip, WDW would have to make it the world of pooh sized.

I rarely eat fast food, that said I will have the fish and chips at Columbia Harbor House and will love it as usual.

I will also have the chili cheese fries at Pecos Bills and will enjoy it to the fullest.

I do enjoy a good cheesburger but since Disney changed the buns I no longer endulge (save the Grand Floridian Burger).

I am on vacation, I am going to eat a little junk (or a lot of junk), that is what vacation is for, escape, doing things that you normally don't get to do at home (like drinking a margarita or two at 11am from World Showcase) or having a cream cheese pretzel for breakfast.

And the DDP can be healthy, if you get water for your drink, stick with a healthier entree, like a salad, and try to get fruit for dessert.

NO, every restaurant may not be to your liking, but I'm tired of Disney being accused of dumbing down their menus because not all of us want to eat Shredded Llama butt-au-flambe with a side of haricot vert and a rhubarb puree and not all of us want bugers and fries.

I'm with you sister!;)

ITA! It's vacation. I consider myself a healthy woman. I watch what I eat. I do high cardio and weight training 4 times per week and I try to limit myself to lean protein, vegis, & whole grains. There is nothing wrong with eating this stuff as long as you eat it in moderation. I'm going to WDW...you can bet you'll be seeing me eat a french fry, ice cream sammie or carmel apple at sometime during my trip. No offense to anyone, but that doesn't mean people that do (like me) weigh 400 lbs and sit on the couch eating chocolate all day. I eat fruits and vegis at home 355 days per year, so chances are I'm going to step out of my skinny shoes and indulge a little.

I am tired of people complaining about food at Disney. There is something for everyone from the picky eaters to the gourmands. If you can't find something good, then there is something wrong with you. NO, every restaurant may not be to your liking, but I'm tired of Disney being accused of dumbing down their menus because not all of us want to eat Shredded Llama butt-au-flambe with a side of haricot vert and a rhubarb puree and not all of us want bugers and fries.

They offer something for everyone and I am darn glad they do it like they do it.

Yeah - unfortunately it is OK to make fun of the overweight in this society.
I know I am overweight, but I am also very healthy and work out every day and eat properly.
(BTW: I think you met me at the food and wine festival last year)

Unfortunately the stereotype of getting two big macs, fries and a diet coke sticks with people.
If you generalized many other groups that way you would be attacked on these boards.
BTW: The worst part of that meal is probably the diet coke with all the chemicals in it!

Some people do assume that the people that love the food on the DDP are slobs.
I disagree - they are just ordinary every day people that are not into food for the most part.
I don't have an issue with that, not everyone wants Foie Gras Crème Brulee.
If you come from a place where Pizza Hut is fine dining (I have been to places where Pizza hut is listed as fine dining) than the food at Disney would be something special.
I'm not going to look down my nose at you for that, but what I don't like is being picked on as being elitist because I am not happy with the quality at Disney TS in relation to the prices they charge or the quality they provided at a fair price a few years back.

Until the food gets better (never) I won't do DDP, but I will do the QSDDP.
The quality of the QS options is surprisingly good and the two snacks a day to use at the F&W festival is a bargain.

Off Topic but:
One other problem with food in the Country is shows like Man V Food.
That guy is killing himself and people are cheering him on as he eats like a pig.

You have the right to your opinion, but I know how it has changed.
Thats fine and I vote with my wallet.

What I don't like is people who don't want to hear our opinion. It is just as valid as yours.

As for your butt-au-flambe comment maybe you would be happy "to have a big trough of baked beans and garnish it with a couple of dead dogs"

IMO - very few of these Disney restaurants would survive at the prices they charge and quality they provide in the real world.
Setting high prices and then selling the DDP to make it affordable is ridiculous.
There are only a handful of places that I would pay for a TS out of pocket.

I don't get how anything I said could be considered what you are suggesting.

I said "so many" obese people in America. I did not say "every".

My comment about the OP and DDP was made because the OP mentioned that he'd be happiest eating this type of food at WDW. THIS is the kind of consumer Disney is hoping for on the DDP. Cheap, frozen food that can be fried up and is almost 100% pure profit for them, EVEN when they give you the DDP "for free". On the DDP, this is the EASIEST type of food to find. Not that there aren't healthy options, but Disney is hoping most people go for the junk. Keeps their DDP profitable.

I guess if you had so many BLANK people like BLANK food you would get many more nasty comments.

As for the OP - I think they were just getting the conversation rolling.
As for your other points I could not agree more.

Hmm, I love good Fried Shrimp and crispy Golden French Fries too.
You have great taste ! More Cocktail Sauce please !

And not just any cole slaw, but the kind that makes a picnic special.

And Ribs, the kind you will see on the Food Channel, from the special BBQ places that make the South famous.

Is there anything at Disney like this?

Here in New England when I hit the local casino, we have a place I love called BIG BUBBA's BBQ, pricey, but the kind of place where you ache to lick your fingers.

Now I am hungry !

Phil
Hey Phil, lots of good choices for bbq ribs at Disney. The best ribs, along with heavenly fried chicken, are at Hoop do doo Revue. Flame Tree Barbecue at AK has great ribs and it's a counter service. Cosmic Ray has a rib/roast chicken combo for a cs point. And for lots of several types of bbq including ribs and briskit is Whispering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge.

You people do understand the OP was simply saying they prefer their food simple and hearty. It's called tongue-in-cheek.

Right?

For example; my MOM'S idea of roughing it is a hotel without a hot tub.
I always say camping is staying on the back side of the Holiday Inn where you can still see the woods.

As far as all you healthy eating folks, go for it, but that ain't gourmet either. In fact, a lot of it is barely food. But if it's what you want, enjoy while I eat my Fat Mo's Big Mo combo with a big scoop of Trailer Trash ice cream for dessert. That's good eatin' in NashVegas.

I do love Ohana, Kona, Biergarten, etc..... but after a while i really do start craving the fried chicken tenders & fries, thats why i like my counter service meals because i can get that but for table service i havent really come across that even at the buffets.

You have the right to your opinion, but I know how it has changed.

Delightful! One less family to fight for an ADR with.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm!!...but seriously, did you neglect to read the whole comment, choosing to pick out the one part that riled you up? I said not everybody wants haute cuisine (llama butt) and not everyone wants a burger and fries. Disney offers food that spans the gamut.

.

Comments above in blue are mine. Bon appetit!

Yes I did read your entire message and I do not agree that they have something for everyone and I am tired of people who don’t want to hear complaining about the quality of the food.

They want to be a food destination and have a food and wine festival and then provide average food with no creativity.

Long gone are the daily specials and unique foods you used to get in Epcot.

Even the Food and Wine festival has basically become the same thing at every booth every year.

I agree!!!

I don't think that pigging out just during a vacation is going to make anyone fat. It's eating like that the rest of the time that will do it.

As for people being tired of seeing people criticize the food, just don't read the threads. :confused3

Thanks but I prefer to rail against the complainers. Gives me something to chase away the boredom!:lmao:

Besides, it ain't just on the DIS that people are complaining. Can't just "not hear" a conversation.

When I was a kid, I used to complain to my parents bitterly about the menu offerings at WDW. The food was weird, and the menus very limited (I am talking about the early 80's to early 90's). Some here might argue that those were the golden years of Disney cuisine. I would argue the food was stupid and without broad appeal.

Luckily, IMHO, Disney now offers food for both the adventurous and the culinary hermit crabs like me.
