My husband had a scary experience last night

Has your husband ever experienced an esophageal stricture before?

There are many possiblities for what he felt, all of which require an evaluation. You should try to get an appt asap so they can begin to figure out what's going on with him and get him some help.

Good luck.

Mystery Machine no I am not seeing anyone else except my family Dr. I'll have to see what happens after my test on Tues although I probably will not hear for a while.

It does sound like he had a severe allergic reaction. He really needs to discuss this with his doctor.

Symptoms of a moderate or severe reaction include:

Cramps or pain in the abdomen
Chest discomfort or tightness
Diarrhea
Difficulty breathing
Difficulty swallowing
Dizziness or lightheadedness
Fear or feeling of apprehension or anxiety
Flushing or redness of the face
Nausea and vomiting
Swelling of the face, eyes, or tongue
Weakness
Wheezing
Unconsciousness

You took a big chance that Benadryl would work. Like someone else suggested he needs to carry an Epi-Pen. Also it is not uncommon for the reaction to continue after the first dose of benadryl wears off and a full blown response can continue.

If it were me my husband would be seeing the doctor THIS week. This should not be ignored.

Oh honey, you need to see a cardio then. My dd was born with a heart defect, had surgery and now has reg. checkups.

Reg. doctors are not cardiologists and frankly I have an issue with a reg. doctor trying to treat you with the symptoms you described.

Those 3 symptoms are also 3 symptoms for a heart attack. I would have you ask my dad about that, as they treated these 3 symptoms, plus indigestion, as a reaction to something. However, by the time they realized that even 36 y/o men can have heart attacks, it was too late.

OP, I hope your DH sees his doctor this week.

Ms yt, IMO the best person for your DH to see right now, as in today, is your primary care doc. What you've described could be caused by a number of things in different systems (GI, neuro, pulmonary, and cardiac, among others), and your primary care doc is the best person to determine that and send him to the right specialist.

I'm not saying it isnt heart related, just confirming allergic reactions cause same symptoms. Especially since he has a history of allergic reactions.

No matter what the cause he should see a doctor sooner not later.

So sorry that happened to your Dad.
