Canoe! LOLOLOL!!!
When she purchased her Christmas tree this year, they asked her for her name & phone number to enter a drawing. Well, she didn't really pay attention to the details! They called her the day before Christmas to tell her she won!!!! LOLOL!
She is in her 80's and you would have thought she won the lottery! Oh my goodness she was sooooooooooooooooo excited. Everyday since Christmas she has been talking to me about her canoe! She even went to "visit" it! LOL! Today, dh & I went to pick it up for her. It was sooooooo long it wouldn't even fit in his truck! They had to tie it on top of the truck! LOL - we looked hysterical in 40 degree weather travelling with a canoe on top of his truck!
She was so excited when we dropped it off at her house. We have NO idea what she has planned for this canoe ... she doesn't live near a alake and doesn't even have oars! But, she has a canoe now ....
I guess whatever floats her boat ( ) makes us happy too!

This reminded me of the section in A Christmas Story where Ralphie's dad won "A Major Prize" which turned out to be a lamp shaped like a ladies leg. Congrats for winning, and she should just be as happy as a clam!

The man at the place we won the canoe, told us to be sure we tried it out before she did! He even gave her a bill of sale ... I never knew that a canoe was such a big ticket item!

Anyone have any tips on using a canoe ... do they make a Canoeing for Dummies book?

I had forgotten all about the leg lamp! That was too funny! I just love that movie!

Aw, she sounds like a really sweet lady!! I do hope you get the chance to take her on a canoe trip soon, what a wonderful memory you'd make with her, unless of course you end up tipping over!! I love canoeing, but I always sit in the front to paddle and DH sits in the back to "navigate and steer" and he's a good navigator because we've never tipped thankfully!!! I would LOVE to win a canoe, and yes they are kind of expensive to buy.

What a neat thing for your Grandma to win. Just wait until she tells all her friends. They will be lining up to go for a ride. LOL!

Best advice I could offer as for going out on the water in it is wear a life jacket. I once was tossed out of a canoe. Very scary event -- although we laugh about it now, it could have ended up very differently. I didn't have a life jacket on -- after all I didn't think I needed it. But, DH wanted to retrieve a bobber he snagged in a tree. Unfortunately, I got more than the bobber on my way out of the canoe. DH said I looked like the creature from the black lagoon when I popped back out of the water with my eyes as wide as saucers. It really could have been a bad situation.

Hope Grandma has fun. I think the idea of a huge flower pot sounds wonderful. I know that's what I'd do with it!
