Nobody understands my love of Disney. This is the only place where I feel that I can indulge my obsession.:rotfl:

I have friends who look quizzical when I talk about my plans to go to WDW in 2012, and others who shudder at the thought of it. I know people who have been to DLP with their children but they obviously derived no pleasure from it, instead 'doing it for the children'.

I have other friends who think I am certifiable. They can't believe that I would spend £6000 to go to Florida when I could have a luxury beach holiday for the same money. I have one friend in particular who would not set foot in any Disney park as she thinks that it is commercialism gone mad - she is genuinely disgusted by it...she has three children under ten.

Is anyone else in the same position?

Yes, yes yes and yes lol

My very best friend is like your friends, cant understand it at all, she doesnt mock me anymore as she knows that I love it, but we could never go away together as we have have totally different tastes in holidays. She loves the beach, and Im not a sit in the sun person. I have already told her I will take her daughters for her if she pays:rotfl2::rotfl2:

All I can say is your set of friends my friends??
We always get the look and the comment well thats what you do if you have a sick child isnt it???

Well no we dont do it for that we do it because the whole family us included LOVE IT !!!

We live within driving distance of WDW and know plenty of people who not only wouldn't drive there they wouldn't cross the street to go there for free. For years we had an office in Orlando that we dealt with so we got to know plenty of locals. Most of them have never set foot in any of the parks. We had other friends who went to WDW every year, but only to play golf. They liked the resorts and the golf courses, never went in any park.

Disney's not for everyone but enough people like it that folks like us can go there and have a wonderful time. We go 2-4 times/year, depending on what's going on.

Sounds familiar to me, i din't care what they think tho and luckily my BF is as disney mad as i am :cool1:

Me to. My friends think I am sad, but hey they are the ones who are missing out. Although I am taking a couple of years off from disney at the request of the better half I will still miss it. I love talking about disney and can for hours upon hours that nobody seems to get.

I often get the whole looks and huffs, but I just let it go over my head these days. They will never understand. Even if they went I believe they will slate it just because they want to. Its a shame, but in some ways I am thinking yay one less person in the parks :rotfl:

I have the exact same situation ..... especially in work. They think I am crazy. I talk about Disney so much I persuaded a friend to take her kids to Disneyland Paris ...... and she absolutely hated it :scared1::scared1:
How weird is that. Thankfully I have lots of friends who "get it" :thumbsup2

yes here too i told my sil i was meeting friends for coffee that i'd met via a disney forum and she looked at me as if i was one crazy lady :rolleyes1
yet she loves horses i dont see the fancinsation myself ! :confused3

Most of my friends and family just leave me to it now. :rotfl: I get the impression that some people think I'm a bit of a weirdo though, mainly colleagues (although many of them have been and admitted they loved it!).

You are definately not alone.

My friends & family don't get it either.....but then again neither does my husband  he just puts up with it/me. I used to get really fed up with the "Why do you want to go there again???", & "But it's for kids not two adults!" comments but they don't bother saying it now after 10 years. :lmao:

:rotfl2: I know that feeling which is why I haven't told my parents I am going on holiday with someone I met on a Disney forum! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I have that too my sister, parents &, DBF thinks I am mad and obsessed. Luckily, however BF is also happy me and my DD get to have fun time together at Disney.

Oh my god, your family sounds just like mine. :rotfl2:
I must have the only children in the whole world who never want to go back to WDW after going for the very first time last year. Me.. I would go every year given the chance.:cloud9:

I ended up going to DLP a few weeks back on my own as my girls didn't want to go, loved every minute of it mind and plan to go solo again in March.

That is so sad that your girls didn't like it. :guilty:  What didn't they like?
Glad to hear you enjoyed a solo trip, I may have to do one of those one day. ;)

It is mainly my friends, my brother, sister, aunt's & uncles etc that don't get the Disney obsession.

I was unfair in my comment about my husband, we have been 6 times in 9 years which is very good considering he isn't really in to it (two or three trips was enough for him) he would much prefer to be exploring somewhere else in the world. I feel really bad now as he is funding my June girly trip and then next year we have two DCL cruises, how ungrateful am I? :guilty:

my dd16 isnt that bothered either i've tried training her but to no avail :rotfl:
now into training with the younger two at least they both like Mickey thats a start isnt it? :lmao:

I find people that have never been find it very strange, but people who have been sort of see why I like it so much.

One thing I do explain to people is that, as good as WDW is and I would happily just stay there, as ive gotten abit older Ive found more and more things to do in Orlando, I can just never get bored of the place.

Well, after reading everyone's comments, it's clear why most of us post on the DIS - it's like a support group!:lmao: Disney outcasts must stick together.:goodvibes

I knew I'd passed on my obsession when my eldest cried inconsolably when I sang 'Just Like we Dreamed it' because it reminded her of DLP. Also when middle DD offered her savings towards the cost of a return trip to DLP.:goodvibes

My friends and family are used to me and my Disney obsession by now.

They tolerate my love for it as much as they can tolerate me :lmao:

I don't understand how some people tell me about the holidays they're taking and I'm enthusiastic about their choice (when it really sounds as dull as ditch water to me :bored:) yet the same people think they have the right to negatively question me about my choice! I waver between proudly telling people where I'm going and thinking I should hide it because I hate the comments!

I try to think positively that, at least, if they don't want to go, the parks will be less crowded for me! :thumbsup2

I work in a hairdressers and meett different people I find people either say to me oh you are going back to Florida or I love Florida we are going back next year as well

I always find people love it or hate it and when some one loves it they really love it I have to regular clients that only talk to me about how much fun they have had and even bring in their photos for me

and I know people that dislike it think I'm weird but I cant see why any wouldnt love it
