My Fork and I Are Friends - Nov. 14 TR RL UPDATE 7/12 Pg. 22

Continued from previous post:

All in all, our flight was pretty uneventful. Mom stuck up a conversation with the guy sitting next to them. I had my headphones in already and I don't know exactly what she said, or how I came up as part of the conversation with this guy, but the result was that Mom hit me on the head with her water bottle and called me a rat!

Guys, for real, I have absolutely no idea why she did this, and when asked, she can't remember either!

I call foul.

Daggers I tell you. Daggers I shot in her general direction.

The flight actually picked up time and we landed at 1am, which was only about 30 minutes later than we were supposed to land had the flight not been delayed.

We made it off the plane pretty quickly and then headed to the faux-norail.

While waiting for the faux-norail to come, Mom, Pop and I discussed the divide and conquer method. Mom and Pop would take the carryons and go to Alamo to get the rental counter, and then Julia and I would get the checked baggage. We would then meet them at the rental counter and walk out together to get the car.

Well, I say that Pop was part of the discussion, but clearly he wasn't. Or he wasn't listening. Because we get down one level, Julia and I are about to walk to the baggage carousel, and he goes "so you want us to pull the car around to pick you up, right?"

Dude, did you not listen to the five minute conversation we had with Mom that you clearly were not listening to?

Popadon quote, not me. "Sometimes, all I hear is womp womp womp....."

Regardless, Mom understood and told Pop what to do at that moment.

Julia and I headed to the baggage carousel, and only waited about 2 minutes before the carousel started up. Score! I felt terrible for a family though. Their luggage came up the conveyor completely open, and there were clothes all over the place! I think their zipper broke or something, but man. That sucks! Everyone was helping them get the stuff off the conveyor to make sure they had everything in hand. I'm glad that wasn't me that happened to. I'd be pretty upset about it.

Our baggage came out like 5 minutes later, which was awesome! By the time Julia and I got everything and got to the Alamo counter, Mom and Pop were just finishing up with the guy. Good timing. We had rented a minivan, and he told Pop to make sure to pick a Town and Country, because they were much nicer than the others. Thanks for the tip Mr. Rental Man.

It was about 1:45am when we got to the car, which really wasn't bad considering. That was deplaning, getting the baggage, and getting the car.

At about 2:15am we were passing through the DARK Disney gates.

I repeat. They were dark. Completely dark, no lights at all. I didn't realize that they turned the lights off on the gates.

Bummer!

Our first night was at Kidani Village. Pop dropped us off and then pulled the car into the parking area.

We had packed overnight bags to make it easier, so the rest of the luggage stayed in the car overnight. No need to lug out the checked bags.

And that ladies and gentlemen ended the pictures for that day. Because at that point, it was 2:30am and I was trying not to pass out. Our Magic Bands weren't working, so they had to issue us a key for the night. We were staying this one night together in a one bedroom before heading over to the Wilderness Lodge the next day to check into our two studios for the week. Julia and I pulled out the couch and pretty much passed out. I think we all hit the hay at about 3am. I still wanted to get up at 8am to get started for the day and get checked in at the Wilderness Lodge before heading to the park for the day.

A decision I would come to regret the next day.

Ooooohhhhh. Foreshadowing.

Up Next: Write that down, he'll never say that again!

And a preview....

My youngest loves it when we just go because I'm more fun he says. I love how you guys always have a blast.

can't remember why I hit you with the water bottle. Probably something that dad said.... :rotfl2. I agree it did go fast for us once we landed. I was amazed that you and Julia were walking up with the luggage just as we were finishing getting the minivan.

probably says more about me that my main takeaway from your update is that you get to enjoy New Glarus beer (they don't import to NY yet)

Excited to hear about the source for all the potential trip report titles

Bummer that you weren't happy with your decision to work that Friday - though probably better to realize you had made those errors then rather than not catching it until after you came back

Nice workers at the airport can make it a much nicer experience - so can see why you prefer the Milwaukee

glad all-in-all wasn't a terrible trip/flight/etc ... that must be a bit eerie though going past the gates of Disney

ooh, not good foreshadowing there

I'm already VERY intrigued by "That Looks Like Jesus!"

My roommate's currently very sad because the Packers beat the Patriots. She did concede that the Packers are a great team, though.

Bummer that your flight was delated, but good that the delay was only 30 minutes!

I honestly would have been crushed if I rolled up to Disney and there were no lights on the gates :sad2:

Everyone and their mother is staying at Wilderness Lodge this year!!! I AM SO JEALOUS. I'll just be here singing "Part of Your World" to myself.

ugh - long travel day, or should I say night. Is it like a 3 hour flight? I like taking later flights, but getting in at 1:30 am is a little late, for sure!

Boo to a bad send off at work. Never fun to have something go wrong before you had to leave on va-kay!

But you are here, so let the fun begin! :cool1: Love your carry-on. It's really cute.

Subbing!

I go away for Thanksgiving, and not only do you start a new trip report, but it's already on page 6!

Looking forward to going back and reading.:thumbsup2

Travel Days, even when things go smoothly, can just be long.

Looks like you all powered through but getting in at 1:30 am :faint:

That reminds me of one time coming back from Germany, I go to the luggage carousel, and my brand new soft suitcase was majorly torn and spilling clothing all over the place. I had to stuff everything into it, and go find the luggage damage reimbursement office in the bowels of Newark Airport, then fill out a form, and stuff all my stuff into a big black plastic bag. On the positive side, they *did* give me a check in the mail for more than I paid for the luggage, so I had that going for me...

Gotta love travel days! :rolleyes1

Ooooh, that's a bummer that you found a month-end mistake. That's just the worst feeling, knowing you (usually) can't go back and fix it and have to tell others about it. :headache: I've been there before. At least you were able to make a quick escape that day, I guess.

Too bad your flight was delayed. That is already a late arrival without the delay (and I'm saying that as a night owl). Glad you all managed okay. Your sandwich looks really good, by the way! :thumbsup2

Huh, I didn't realize they turned off the lights at night. Must be pretty late, like after midnight, because I know we've arrived late before and they were on. :confused3

Ugh, not good foreshadowing... Looking forward to hearing about it anyway! :goodvibes

Ha... I call him KaeperDINK. Hate that guy. (Though Tom Brady is worse... Such a baby!)

We got in extremely late once... And stupidly had an ADR for the next morning at 8am. Won't do that again, esp now that I have a small person that I must travel with. Can't wait to hear about the first day!

I like your nails!

I would not have gone back home after that text from SW either, an hour delay is not much, and sometimes they move the time back up!

Having Pre-check at MKE is almost unnecessary, half the time they let people through that line anyway. I love that airport :cool1: I'll be there in just under 3 weeks :thumbsup2

Wow, you arrived so late! And no lights on the sign? That stinks.

Oh travel days. At least (other than the hour delay) it doesn't sound like it was too bad!
Your airport sounds fun. :thumbsup2

Mom got TSA pre-check and the rest of us didn't.

So she goes through the pre-check line and is rubbing it in our faces. To which I say:

"It makes no difference that you're pre-check, cause you still have to wait for us!"

Shut.......down.

HAHAHA Sounds like my Mother in law! She RUNS through the airport and then stands and waits for Johnny and I who stroll through leisurely and still get there on time. :rotfl2:

Oh man that's so late to be getting in and settled. Glad you got there though!

Eeeeeeek!!!! I'm so glad to see you started a new trip report! Yours makes me laugh hysterically so I can't wait to see what this trip has in store. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving

Hey Danielle! I've been beyond busy and haven't had much time to visit the DIS. Thanks for the heads up as I love your trip reports!

I wasn't aware the lights were turned off. I figured they kept them on all night. Hmmmmm......

Jealous of your Kidani Village stay and looking forward to reading more.

I love all those TR title candidates- can't wait to hear all the details about them!

Ugh that stinks that work was so crazy, I feel like that ALWAYS happens the day before vacation.

I swear you make arrival day sound just as fun as park days! haha so hilarious, I love it! :rotfl2:

I love the Jamberry nails, they look awesome!

Flight delays ... ouch. At least you made up time and didn't get in too much later than expected!

I love your name for Kaepernick ... I hate that guy. Seriously.

I would have been like your mom, gloating about the pre-check - I just like not having to take off my shoes (last time I flew we were randomly assigned to pre-check both ways).

"Sometimes, all I hear is womp womp womp" - I love it!

I can't believe the gates were dark ... that's so sad!

Foreshadowing ... although I don't think 5 hours of sleep is something that you ever don't reget.

All those TR titles look fantastic! "That Looks Like Jesus." I don't know, but I probably would've gotten to this comment quicker if that was the title... just saying. ;)

Sorry to hear that work was a bit insane. I LOL'd so bad at the Stewie and Lois GIF. Every time that came on TV when it was the primary Family Guy commercial, she would point it out to my sisters and I saying, "THIS. THIS IS WHAT I GO THROUGH." I'm guessing you were doing the same thing after work.

:thumbsup2 to those fab Disney nails!

The Milwaukee airport sounds like the place to be. Sorry that your flight got delayed. Yay for more random Popadon pictures-that-we-may-not-ever-know-the-reason-or-story-but-really-don't-care. LOL @ the conversation with the Southwest employees. Too bad it only sounds funny to me as a result of GIFs and hints at bags being thrown for some reason since I'm not a football fan. And I can just only imagine how going through security must've been with your mom :rotfl:

Yay for you and Julia getting to keep your row to yourselves! Nay to your mother bonking you on the head with a water bottle.

What does it say about me totally predicting that Popadon was going to totally not listen to you and your mother's conversation? I have read your TRs for so so long (and enjoyed every minute of it :teeth: ).

Awww, that's too bad about driving through a darkened Gates of Heaven, but OMG AKL is still looking incredibly gorgeous.

I hope this foreboding sense of foreshadowing I'm getting right now doesn't put a huge damper on your first day in the parks. Still, can't wait to read more! :mickeyjum

OK, totally looking forward to hearing about ALL these titles. Especially "Excuse Me. Can I Pet Your Monkey?" because... reasons.

I would never not take travel day off and your experience really shows why. Yikes!

Wow. MCO is so barren. Kinda eerie.

Geez that would be awful to have all your luggage all over the place like that. I never even thought of that before.

They turn off the lights?????? I had no idea. That would be so weird. Did they not know Popadon was coming????
